G u e s t S p e a k e r P a u l S h a v i v Thursday, September 26 6:00 pm Topic: The Binding of Isaac - themes and reflections Paul Shaviv has lived in North America for almost 20 years. He was born and educated in the UK, and holds BA and MA degrees from Cambridge University in Architecture, and an M.Phil. from Oxford University in Medieval and Modern Jewish Studies. He has occupied senior positions in five Jewish schools on three continents, and in 2009 was awarded the Max M. Fisher Prize for Excellence in Jewish Education. From 1982 to 1990, Mr. Shaviv and his family lived in Israel, where he worked in the field of Jewish-Diaspora relations and educational and organizational consulting. He is the author of The Jewish High School: A Complete Management Guide (2009), and has taught, published, lectured, and broadcast widely on Jewish affairs, Judaism, Israel, Jewish history, and Jewish education. C a n t o r M e i r G o l d b e r g Wednesday, September 24 - Friday, September 26 Cantor Meir Goldberg was born and raised in Tel Aviv, Israel, and came to the US with his family at the age of 14. At an early age, he received his passion for singing and chazzanut from his father, who was a cantor in the IDF. Cantor Goldberg had voice coaching with teachers from the Julliard School in NYC but most of his knowledge of music, nusach and being a shaliach tzibur emanates from his father Arie Goldberg. Cantor Goldberg has officiated as the full time Chazzan of Congregation Etz Chaim of Flatbush (Brooklyn, NY) since he was 19. He appeared on the Chabad Telethon in 2010 and has been the guest Chazzan in many synagogues around the U.S., including Park East Synagogue (NYC), Congregation Kneseth Israel (The White Shul), Congregation Ohr Torah (Highland Park, NJ), and Kingsway Jewish Center (Brooklyn, NY).
