THE CHRISTMAS SERIES of 2013 THE CELEBRATION, ADORATION AND POWER OF JESUS CHRIST, THE SON OF GOD, THE CHRISTMAS STORY 1John 4:9-11 December 15, 2013 THE TITLE OF THE MESSAGE: The Celebration, Adoration and Power of Jesus Christ, The Son of God, The Christmas Story Part 2/3 SUBJECT TOPICALLY REFERENCED UNDER: Salvation, Christmas, Faith, Hope, Love, Worship Introduction to the Text; 1John 4:9-11 State The Contextual Summation and Theme 1 John 4:9-11 In this the love of God was manifested toward us, (?) that God has sent His only begotten (one and only) Son into the world, that we might live through Him. 10 In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. In Part One of our Christmas series we looked at 1.) Christmas was born out of heaven Christmas Where It All Began 2 Pet. 1:16-18a For we did not follow cunningly devised fables when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of His majesty. 17 For He received from God the Father honor and glory when such a voice came to Him from the Excellent Glory: This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. 18 And we heard this voice which came from heaven John 6:51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world. Hark the herald angels sing "Glory to the newborn King! Peace on earth and mercy mild God and sinners reconciled Joyful, all ye nations rise Join the triumph of the skies with the angelic host proclaim: "Christ is born in Bethlehem" Hark! The herald angels sing "Glory to the newborn King!" Christ by highest heav'n adored Christ the everlasting Lord! Late in time behold Him come Offspring of a Virgin's womb Veiled in flesh the Godhead see Hail the incarnate Deity pleased as man with man to dwell - Jesus, our Emmanuel. Hark! The herald angels sing "Glory to the newborn King!" Hail the heav'n-born Prince of Peace! Hail the Son of Righteousness! Light and life to all He 1

brings Ris'n with healing in His wings Mild He lays His glory by Born that man no more may die Born to raise the sons of earth Born to give them second birth Hark! The herald angels sing "Glory to the newborn King!" 2.) Christmas came for a purpose Hark (heed, listen, give ear) the herald angels sing "Glory to the newborn King! Peace on earth Luke 2:8-14 Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. 10 Then the angel said to them, Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. 11 For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. 12 And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger. :13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: 14 Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men! The Message, the Mission, The Story of Christmas Matters Because of It s Purpose or Reason. So I want to encourage you to be asking the question Why? 2a.) Christmas answers the question of existence Luke 2:10-11 Then the angel said to them, Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. 11 For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. A Christmas Hymn by Charles Wesley (1739 London, England) Hark the herald angels sing "Glory to the newborn King! Peace on earth and mercy mild God and sinners reconciled - Joyful, all ye nations rise - Join the triumph of the skies with the angelic host proclaim: "Christ is born in Bethlehem" John 6:51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven this last week we saw a house decorated for Christmas and on the front lawn was a nativity scene with a cross. The Christmas message is not only an eternal message, it s a message that tells us that the reason Christ came to the manger is that He might go to the cross but why the cross? The Christmas Cross of Jesus Christ Is the centrality of the Gospel it s the gateway to heaven for anyone who will trust in Him. We Exist to Know God. 2

The acquisition of information is important to us. The gathering of knowledge drives human beings on and the pursuit of God is universal. 2b.) Christmas answers the question of relationship Christ by highest heav'n adored Christ the everlasting Lord! - Late in time behold Him come Offspring of a Virgin's womb Veiled - in flesh the Godhead see Hail the incarnate Deity - pleased as man with man to dwell Jesus, our Emmanuel. Isaiah 7:14 Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel. John 1:14a And the Word became flesh (the bread of life) and dwelt among us, Genesis 22:8 KJV And Abraham said, My son, God will provide Himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together. 1 Peter 2:24-25 (Jesus) Who HIMSELF bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness by whose stripes you were healed. 25 For you were like sheep going astray, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls. Eph. 2:14 For He HIMSELF is our peace, (peace with God = peace of God)!!! Bonus Round!!! 1 Th. 4:15-17 For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. 16 For the Lord HIMSELF will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. 2c.) Christmas answers the question of guilt Hark! The herald angels sing "Glory to the newborn King!" Hail the heav'n-born Prince of Peace! Hail the Son of Righteousness! Human Guilt is a Wonderful Thing. - - It is a Terrible Thing Guilt is the result of a Sinning Soul that Gets Separated from God. Rom. 10:11 For the Scripture says, Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame. kataiscu/nw kataischuno, kat-ahee-skhoo -no; to see oneʼs dis-grace, to hang the head, to blush, to hide or cover the face. That separation comes from shame and shame is a result of sin. 3

Ezekiel 18:20a AMP The soul that sins it shall surely die. But Christmas Brings us the Son of Righteousness A Messianic Prophecy Concerning the Christmas-Christ Jeremiah 23:6b Now this is His name by which He will be called: THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS. 2 Corinthians 5:21 For He (God the Father) made Him (Christ the Son) who knew no sin to be sin (not a sinner, but sin) for us, that we might become THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF GOD IN HIM. 2d.) Christmas answers the question of forgiveness Light and life to all He brings - Ris'n with healing in His wings Whenever anyone is forgiven, rarely do we realize that someone has to pay the price for that forgiveness. it means that the forgiver must pay the debt for the forgiven 1 Pet. 3:18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit, Titus 2:14 NIV (Jesus) Who gave Himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for Himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good. 2e.) Christmas answers the question of death Mild He lays His glory by Born that man no more may die Born to raise the sons of earth Born to give them second birth John 11:20-27 Now Martha, as soon as she heard that Jesus was coming, went and met Him, but Mary was sitting in the house. 21Now Martha said to Jesus, Lord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died. 22But even now I know that wha-tever You ask of God, God will give You. :23Jesus said to her, Your brother will rise again. :24 Martha said to Him, I know that he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day. :25 Jesus said to her, I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. 26 And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this? 27 She said to Him, Yes, Lord, I believe that You are the Christ, the Son of God, who is to come into the world. What Do You Think About Death? - - Which Death Am I Talking About? 2f.) Christmas answers the question of life The Bible declares that God is the giver of Life and that He Loves Life. 4

Gen. 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, (life-less form) and breathed into his nostrils (CPR) the breath of life; and man became (activated) a living being. John 20:22 And when He had said this, He breathed on them, (Christ Provides Redemption) and said to them, Receive the Holy Spirit. Christian, have you noticed something about yourself, when it comes to life? It is that we, as human beings love life and we give life through love. And by Life I mean this Life Here and Now but also Forever Life, Eternal Life. Eccl. 3:11 He has put (or placed) eternity in our hearts, Pause and Think Is There Evil and Suffering? Yes. So Why Is There Any Good in The World? If true love is active and involved. If God is active and involved. Then that would explain the entrance or existence of any good done in this world.!!! God is Good because God Created Life because God is Love!!! Hark! The herald angels sing "Glory to the newborn King!" 1 John 4:9-11 In this the love of God was manifested toward us, (?) that God has sent His only begotten (one and only) Son into the world, that we might live through Him. 10 In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. >>>> The Cross, The Christ, The Call <<<< Come Forward for Prayer End of Study Copyright December 15, 2013 by Jack Hibbs 5
