DIVINE SERVICE Hymn of Invocation # 727 Setting Four Confession & Absolution p. 203 Introit You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you because he trusts in you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting rock. For God alone my soul waits in silence; from him comes my salvation. He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be greatly shaken. Fear not, nor be afraid; have I not told you from of old and declared it? And you are my witnesses! Is there a God besides me? There is no Rock; I know not any. In my distress I called upon the Lord; to my God I cried for help. From his temple he heard my voice, and my cry to him reached his ears. The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. On my Strength, I will watch for you, for you, O God are my fortress. On my Strength, I will sing praises to you, for you, O God are my fortress, the God who shows me steadfast love Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen. You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you because he trusts in you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting rock. Kyrie p. 204 Gloria In Excelsis p. 204 Salutation & Collect p. 205 Almighty God, our sure hope and salvation, grant us rest in Your love and grace. You are our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Teach us by your Spirit to trust in You alone and 2

not to make flesh our strength that we may look to You alone for our strength, through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Old Testament: Daniel 6:12-27 (ESV) Then they came near and said before the king, concerning the injunction, O king! Did you not sign an injunction, that anyone who makes petition to any god or man within thirty days except to you, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions? The king answered and said, The thing stands fast, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which cannot be revoked. Then they answered and said before the king, Daniel, who is one of the exiles from Judah, pays no attention to you, O king, or the injunction you have signed, but makes his petition three times a day. Then the king, when he heard these words, was much distressed and set his mind to deliver Daniel. And he labored till the sun went down to rescue him. Then these men came by agreement to the king and said to the king, Know, O king, that it is a law of the Medes and Persians that no injunction or ordinance that the king establishes can be changed. Then the king commanded, and Daniel was brought and cast into the den of lions. The king declared to Daniel, May your God, whom you serve continually, deliver you! And a stone was brought and laid on the mouth of the den, and the king sealed it with his own signet and with the signet of his lords, that nothing might be changed concerning Daniel. Then the king went to his palace and spent the night fasting; no diversions were brought to him, and sleep fled from him. Then, at break of day, the king arose and went in haste to the den of lions. As he came near to the den where Daniel was, he cried out in a tone of anguish. The king declared to Daniel, O Daniel, servant of the living God, has your God, whom you serve continually, been able to deliver you from the lions? Then Daniel said to the king, O king, live forever! My God sent his angel and shut the lions' mouths, and they have not harmed me, because I was found blameless before him; and also before you, O king, I have done no harm. Then the king was exceedingly glad, and commanded that Daniel be taken up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no kind of harm was found on 3

him, because he had trusted in his God. And the king commanded, and those men who had maliciously accused Daniel were brought and cast into the den of lions they, their children, and their wives. And before they reached the bottom of the den, the lions overpowered them and broke all their bones in pieces. Then King Darius wrote to all the peoples, nations, and languages that dwell in all the earth: Peace be multiplied to you. I make a decree, that in all my royal dominion people are to tremble and fear before the God of Daniel, for he is the living God, enduring forever; his kingdom shall never be destroyed, and his dominion shall be to the end. He delivers and rescues; he works signs and wonders in heaven and on earth, he who has saved Daniel from the power of the lions. Epistle Reading: Ephesians 6:10-17 (ESV) Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Alleluia and Verse p. 205 Holy Gospel: St. Matthew 11:25-30 (ESV) At that time Jesus declared, I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to little children; yes, Father, for such was Your gracious will. All things have been handed over to Me by My Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal Him. Come to 4

Me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy, and my burden is light. As we celebrate the Sacrament, we also give public witness that we are in complete agreement with the denomination s doctrinal teachings at whose altar we commune. Therefore, we ask that only communicant members of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod commune with us. All guests are asked to talk to Rev. Heller before coming to the altar to receive the Sacrament. Welcome to worship on LWML Sunday. The Lutheran Women s Missionary League (LWML) is the official women s auxiliary of The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. Since 1942, the LWML has affirmed each woman s identity as a child of God and her relationship with Jesus Christ. Lutheran Women in Mission are encouraged and equipped to live out their lives in active mission ministries and to support missions around the world through their sacrificial gifts of Mite Box offerings and tireless service. As God s children, we rest in the assurance that He loves us and sent His Son to redeem us. God is our rock and salvation. That firm foundation enables us to reach out into a changing world in need of the Gospel. Visitors, please sign our guest book and worship with us again soon! Mite Boxes have changed in color and design over the years, but what has never changed is the dedication of freely given offerings for the purpose of reaching out to others with the Good News of Jesus Christ. Districts still retain 75% of mite offerings for the work of the LWML at that level. Based on the Biblical account of the widow's mite, the Mite Box is intended for regular contributions of "mites" offerings above and beyond the support given to the congregation and the Synod. Mite Box contributions amount to millions of dollars that fund district and national mission grants. In fact, the LWML has collected over $100 million dollars since 1942. Yes these coins have and will continue to make a difference. Thank you for contributing to the Mite Box and providing the opportunity for us to spread the Gospel to the world. The LWML will be serving muffins, juice, & coffee following worship this morning. Please join us! Nominations: We are compiling the list of nominees for elections. Positions up for election this year are executive director, assistant director, education, stewardship, church properties, secretary, treasurer, and 3 lay ministry positions. As well, there are still two positions vacant from last year: chairman of young people s work and chairman of evangelism. If you are interested in one of these offices, please contact Kevin Herrmann, Jamey Backus, pastor, or any council member. 6

Trunk or Treat: Concordia will again be hosting Trunk or Treat on Halloween, October 31 st, 5:00-6:30 pm. Donations of candy are welcome and can be placed in the kitchen. Serve The Lord With Gladness Serve the Lord with gladness! Let this be our aim: Serve the Lord with gladness! Glorify His name! Serve the Lord with gladness! He gave us command To proclaim His Gospel Now in every land So that fellow sinners May, like us, be blest. Leading them to Jesus, We can serve Him best. Refrain Serve the Lord with gladness! There s no greater joy Than to serve the Master, Work in His employ. As we build His kingdom Angels, too, rejoice Over every sinner Brought to hear His voice. Refrain Prof. Ernest Lewerenz 7

We have ignored the fact that it is God who created us. We always go off the tracks when we forget that He made us and that everything good in this world comes from His hand.
