Our Savior Lutheran Church Mankato, Minnesota The Fourth Sunday of Easter May 7, 2017 [10:30] Call to Worship: Jesus Love Me Little Lambs Greeting and Announcements Opening Hymn: Christ the Lord Is Risen Today LSB 469 1 Christ the Lord is ris n today! Saints on earth and angels say; Raise your joys and triumphs high; Sing, ye heav ns, and earth, reply. 2 Love s redeeming work is done, Fought the fight, the battle won; Lo! Our Sun s eclipse is o er; Lo! He sets in blood no more. 3 Vain the stone, the watch, the seal; Christ hath burst the gates of hell. Death in vain forbids His rise; Christ has opened paradise. 4 Lives again our glorious King! Where, O death, is now thy sting? Once He died our souls to save; Where thy victory, O grave? 5 Soar we now where Christ has led; Foll wing our exalted Head. Made like Him, like Him we rise; Ours the cross, the grave, the skies. 6 Hail the Lord of earth and heav n! Praise to Thee by both be giv n! Thee we greet triumphant now: Hail, the resurrection, Thou! Public domain

Invocation P In the name of the Father and of the T Son and of the Holy Spirit. Exhortation P Our help is in the name of the Lord, C who made heaven and earth. P If You, O Lord, kept a record of sins, O Lord, who could stand? C But with You there is forgiveness; therefore You are feared. P Since we are gathered to hear God s Word, call upon Him in prayer and praise, and receive the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ in the fellowship of this altar, let us first consider our unworthiness and confess before God and one another that we have sinned in thought, word, and deed, and that we cannot free ourselves from our sinful condition. Together as His people let us take refuge in the infinite mercy of God, our heavenly Father, seeking His grace for the sake of Christ, and saying: God, be merciful to me, a sinner. Confession of Sins C Almighty God, have mercy upon us, forgive us our sins, and lead us to everlasting life. Amen. Prayer for Forgiveness P Almighty God, merciful Father, in Holy Baptism You declared us to be Your children and gathered us into Your one, holy Church, in which You daily and richly forgive us our sins and grant us new life through Your Spirit. Be in our midst, enliven our faith, and graciously receive our prayer and praise; through Your Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord. Forgiveness of our Sin (Absolution) P Almighty God in His mercy has given His Son to die for you and for His sake forgives you all your sins. As a called and ordained servant of Christ, and by His authority, I therefore forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the T Son and of the Holy Spirit. Greeting and Prayer of the Day (Salutation and Collect) P The Lord be with you. C And also with you. 2

P Let us pray. Almighty God, merciful Father, since You have wakened from death the Shepherd of Your sheep, grant us Your Holy Spirit that when we hear the voice of our Shepherd we may know Him who calls us each by name and follow where He leads; through the same Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. [8:00] Anthem: Kids Under Construction Aidan Axness [10:30] Anthem: Praise to the Lord, the Almighty Kids Ring First Reading: Acts 2:42 47 And they devoted themselves to the apostles teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. And all who believed were together and had all things in common. And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved. A This is the Word of the Lord. C Thanks be to God. Reading from a New Testament Letter (Epistle): 1 Peter 2:19 25 For this is a gracious thing, when, mindful of God, one endures sorrows while suffering unjustly. For what credit is it if, when you sin and are beaten for it, you endure? But if when you do good and suffer for it you endure, this is a gracious thing in the sight of God. For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps. He committed no sin, neither was deceit found in his mouth. When he was reviled, he did not revile in return; when he suffered, he did not threaten, but continued entrusting himself to him who judges justly. He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed. For you were straying like sheep, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls. A This is the Word of the Lord. C Thanks be to God. [10:30] Anthem: I Can Only Imagine Kids' Praise 3

Alleluia Holy Gospel: John 10:1 10 P The Holy Gospel according to St. John, the tenth chapter. C Glory to You, O Lord. [Jesus said:] Truly, truly, I say to you, he who does not enter the sheepfold by the door but climbs in by another way, that man is a thief and a robber. But he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. To him the gatekeeper opens. The sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice. A stranger they will not follow, but they will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers. This figure of speech Jesus used with them, but they did not understand what he was saying to them. So Jesus again said to them, Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. All who came before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. P This is the Gospel of the Lord. C Praise to You, O Christ. [8:00] Baptismal Hymn: Father Welcomes LSB 605 ref Father welcomes all His children To His fam ly through His Son. Father giving His salvation, Life forever has been won. 1 Little children, come to me, For My kingdom is of these. Life and love I have to give, Mercy for your sin. Refrain 2 In the water, in the Word, In His promise, be assured: Those who are baptized and believe Shall be born again. Refrain 4

3 Let us daily die to sin; Let us daily rise with Him, Walk in the love of Christ our Lord, Live in the peace of God. Refrain 1986 Kevin Mayhew Ltd. Used by permission: LSB Hymn License.NET, no. 100010342. [8:00] Holy Baptism Harper Ann Schmitt Confession of Faith (Apostles' Creed) C I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life T everlasting. Amen. Blest are they, the pure of heart; They shall see God! 4 Blest are they who seek peace; They are the children of God. Blest are they who suffer in faith; The glory of God is theirs. Verse 5 Children [8:00] Anthem: Go My Children With My Blessing Kids Praise [10:30] Anthem: Kids Under Construction Aidan Axness Now All the Vault of Heaven Resounds LSB 465 1 Now all the vault of heav n resounds In praise of love that still abounds: Christ has triumphed! He is living! Sing, choirs of angels, loud and clear! Repeat their song of glory here: Christ has triumphed! Christ has triumphed! 2 Eternal is the gift He brings, Therefore our heart with rapture sings: Christ has triumphed! He is living! Now still He comes to give us life And by His presence stills all strife. Christ has triumphed! He is living! 8

3 O fill us, Lord, with dauntless love; Set heart and will on things above That we conquer through Your triumph; Grant grace sufficient for life s day That by our lives we truly say: Christ has triumphed! He is living! 4 Adoring praises now we bring And with the heavn ly blessèd sing: Christ has triumphed! Alleluia! Be to the Father and our Lord, To Spirit blest, most holy God, All the glory, never ending! O Sons and Daughters of the King LSB 470 1 O sons and daughters of the King, Whom heav nly hosts in glory sing, Today the grave has lost its sting! 2 That Easter morn, at break of day, The faithful women went their way To seek the tomb where Jesus lay. 3 An angel clad in white they see, Who sits and speaks unto the three, Your Lord will go to Galilee. 4 That night the_apostles met in fear; Among them came their master dear And said, My peace be with you here. 5 When Thomas first the tidings heard That they had seen the risen Lord, He doubted the disciples word. 9

6 My piercèd side, O Thomas, see, And look upon My hands, My feet; Not faithless but believing be. 7 No longer Thomas then denied; He saw the feet, the hands, the side; You are my Lord and God! he cried. 8 How blest are they who have not seen And yet whose faith has constant been, For they eternal life shall win. 9 On this most holy day of days Be laud and jubilee and praise: To God your hearts and voices raise. Public domain Dismissal (Nunc Dimittis) 10

Post-Communion Prayer (Collect) A Let us pray. We give thanks to You, almighty God, that You have refreshed us through this salutary gift, and we implore You that of Your mercy You would strengthen us through the same in faith toward You and in fervent love toward one another; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. [8:00] Anthem: Jesus Loves Me Little Lambs Our Blessing (Benedicamus) A Let us bless the Lord. C Thanks be to God. The Lord s Blessing (Benediction) P The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make His face shine on you and be gracious to you. The Lord look upon you with favor and T give you peace. Closing Hymn: I Am Content! My Jesus Ever Lives LSB 468 1 My Jesus ever lives, In whom my heart is pleased. He has fulfilled the Law of God for me, God s wrath He has appeased. Since He in death could perish never, I also shall not die forever. 11

2 My Jesus is my head; His member I shall be. He bowed His head when on the cross He died With cries of agony. Now death is brought into subjection For me by Jesus resurrection. 3 My Jesus is my light, My radiant sun of grace. His cheering rays beam blessings forth for all, Sweet comfort, hope, and peace. This Easter sun has brought salvation And everlasting exultation. 4 At length I shall be free, Awakened from the dead, Arising glorious evermore to be With You, my living head. The chains that hold my body, sever; Then shall my soul rejoice forever.
