Thank you! "Merciful Lord, turn toward us and listen to our prayer: open the gates of paradise to your servant and help us who remain to comfort one another with assurances of faith until we all meet in Christ and are with you and our brother/sister forever". So yes, Halloween precedes for us the month that we are reminded in a very particular way to think about those who have died. We should pray for those who need our prayers to be able to see God face to face... Heaven... and pray for the intercession of those already who have attained paradise. Surely, they are powerful intercessors for each of us. Happy Halloween... Happy Month of the Holy Souls!!! ALL HALLOWS EVE by Deacon John On Tuesday evening, we will celebrate Halloween, an evening of costumes, candy, decorations and trick or treating for the young and for the young at heart. A tradition that we all remember as children and as parents and grandparents. What we sometimes fail to remember is the OTHER term used to describe Halloween All Hallows Eve that is the evening BEFORE All Saints Day Those who are "hallowed" and the celebration of All Saints Day, which ushers in the month of November, which the Church refers to as the Month of the Holy Souls. All Saints Day is celebrated on November 1 st which is a Holy Day of Obligation which is followed by November 2 nd, which is All Souls Day. Why, some might ask, does the Church devote a WHOLE month to the Faithful Departed? Our Liturgical prayer, the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, at every celebration remembers the Holy Souls... those gone before us marked with the sign of Faith. In the First Eucharistic Prayer we pray... "Remember your servants who have gone before us with the sign of Faith and rest in the sleep of peace. Grant them, O Lord, we pray and all who sleep in Christ, a place of refreshment, light and peace." The Church at every Mass she prays remembers the dead. And when we think about it... don't we remember our family members who have died and were, and still are, a very important part of our lives? At the end of the Funeral liturgy, in the prayer of Commendation we pray CDA, COURT RITA #264 EVENTS ANNUAL TRICKY TRAY
