So many people (including me) have been sick with a virus or flu or whatever. Hospitals are all overfull and are diverting patients. Try to stay healthy. Our first major event in February is by the Ladies Auxiliary. On Saturday, Feb 10 th will be their second Big BBQ dinner. You do not want to miss it. It was terrific last year and will be even better this year. Cost is $10.00 per person and tickets are available from the Ladies. Lent also begins on February 14 th also Valentines Day. Lent also means the start of our Friday Fish Fries. Our first one will be on Feb 16 th in Founders Hall and the following 5 Fridays. There is no fish fry on Good Friday in Holy Week. Come and get a terrific meal before Stations of the Cross begin. Come support your council and enjoy a great meal. A major fund raiser for us is the Folds of Honor race at the Atlanta Motor Speedway from Feb 22 through Feb 25 th. This is Atlanta s big NASCAR race of the year. We will again be working at this event. We will have 2 parking lots assigned to us to monitor 24/7. Yes, that is correct- 24/7. We will be at the raceway from noon on Thursday (22) until mid afternoon on Sunday (25). It is not hard work at all, just a lot of hours. We monitor our 2 lots to verify campers are in their correct lot and verify traffic coming & going at our lots. Most of the campers return every year and they know exactly what to do- even more than we do. It is an enjoyable experience even though we never see the (Continued on page 4) 2/6 Monthly Meeting 2/10 Big Time BBQ Dinner 2/14 Ash Wednesday & Valentine s Day 2/16 Fish Fry 2/21 Senior Breakfast 2/22 Parade 2/22-2/25 Raceway Week-end

Knightline Knights of Columbus Tara Council # 6352 Newsletter February 2018 Page 2 of 6 Deputy Grand Knight Gentlemen, Lent is just around the corner. What do you do Give up something, take on something new. Might I suggest whatever camp you belong to that you also assess your involvement with the Knights of Columbus. Over the last few years as a council we have moved from being in the red financially to being able to breath just a little. With that said we moved BINGO to just Thursday Night to capitalize on the legally allowed payout in a week. All our eggs are now in one basket. If this fails we may as well start looking at the process to close the building. Throughout the year we continually ask for your assistance/support in one or more of our fundraising events or those that do not generate money but good will towards the council. Coming up in the next few months are; The Atlanta Motor Speedway Folds of Honor Race weekend support, Our Annual Friday night Fish Fry, The Ladies Axillary BBQ Dinner, Easter Parking Detail, Monthly Senior Breakfast, our Pancake breakfast, Saint Patrick s Day Dinner/Dance. Perhaps you would like to be run an event or have an idea that you think might generate a little income for the council. On the horizon we have a Horseshoe tournament, October Fest, Fall Football /Cornhole tournament, Scotch Tasting, Wine Tasting, Photos with Santa, 4th of July Party, New Years Eve Party, and (put your ideas here). Fraternally your David Hinckley DGK

Knightline Knights of Columbus Tara Council # 6352 Newsletter February 2018 Page 3 of 6 Ladies Auxiliary Presidents Corner Ladies, February, the month of Valentine s Day- love and romance, and Lent all on February 14 th. We will demonstrate our love for God and our loved one on that special day. Sometimes in Lent it is easier to give up that piece of chocolate or dessert than it is to do something special or kind. Doing both may be the way. January has flown by and it was a busy month. The Knight s Corn Hole Tournament was a success and well attended. Several people found our tournament listed on-line and came to play and win. The concession stand was open, and we grossed $96.00 selling food and drinks. Many thanks to Jinsook and Gayle for working the day. A good time was had by all. The Ladies also worked at the KOC Pancake Breakfast and Blood Drive. The blood banks need for blood is great at this time. February is a very busy month for the Auxiliary. We will have our 2 nd Annual Big Time BBQ Dinner chaired by Jo Scherer and Nancy Paulus. They have been working hard on preparations and the dinner will be a grand success. The Ladies have been asked to bake the dessert. Ask Jo or Nancy how you can help, and we will hear more at our February meeting. It is Fish Fry time starting February 16 th in Founder s Hall. I can hardly wait for the fish dinner and volunteering to work the food line is fun. You get to see many friends and have time to socialize with them. Another project for February is cooking for the men who work the raceway. The men enjoy the event and last year they were so appreciative of our variety of dishes made. Knightline Knights of Columbus Tara Council # 6352 Newsletter February 2018 Page 4 of 6 (Continued from page 1) track itself. Very festive- very fun filled and a lot of excitement. There are still some time slots we have to fill so please come and help us do our jobs, you will have a good time. By now you have probably heard about the changes in our Bingo program. This has been a consistent ongoing fund raiser for many years but times have changed and attendance is not what it used to be. We are implementing changes and we need your help to be successful. Come and play Bingo, bring your family and friends. Let people know we are still there on Thursday evenings. Monday bingo has been stopped. Check it out and have some good evenings of fun. You can also be one of the workers and have even more fun. If you did not attend our Cornhole Tournament in January, you missed a lot of fun. Everyone who attended had a great time even if we could not toss a bean bag and hit the boards. Become active in what the Council does. It is your Council and it can only be as successful as you make it. Bob Kula Grand Knight
