Worship Celebration: September 11, 2016 9:15 a.m. (PRAISE!) EPWORTH: a United Methodist Church 17 th Sunday after Pentecost (Year C) For the past 7 months, Epworth Church has been discerning our Vision, seeking our identity in this 21 st century of ministry. We have met in small groups of leaders, Church Council, surveyed the congregation and spent much time in thought and prayer as we discerned God s calling and identity for Epworth Church. Today we introduce to you our proposed vision Exploring Faith, Embracing Community! For the next three weeks, our sermons and worship will study that proposed vision as we reflect and pray together for God s continued guidance. Today we look at the entire vision, using Jesus parables of the lost sheep and lost coin both of which speak to exploring faith and welcoming all! We also celebrate Rally Day when we start a new year of Sunday school and Disciple Bible Study and Youth Group. We will dedicate our teachers and recognize our Disciple graduates and give thanks to God for their faithful study and leadership. We are glad you are worshipping with us today! EPWORTH a United Methodist Church 19285 Holland Glade Road Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971 (302) 227-7743 www.eumcrb.org VISION: Growing as Christian community in service to the Rehoboth area; MISSION: Reaching out, celebrating, and living the love of Christ in God s world. WE GATHER IN COMMUNITY Praise Gathering I d like to say, Lord, from the start Thank You for breaking through my heart. Thank You for tearing ev ry chain apart. When I was lost You made a way, You turned the darkest night to day. You are my joy and Lord, I d like to say that FULL TEXT NOBODY FILLS MY HEART LIKE JESUS (refrain) Nobody fills my heart like Jesus! Nobody thrills me like You do! Nobody fills my heart like Jesus. Nobody, Lord, but You! (repeat) Nobody but You!

When I am weak, my Lord, You re strong, Loving me even when I m wrong. Lord, You are my salvation and my song. Every day I ll make the choice Just listening, following Your voice. Being with You, I can t help but rejoice for (refrain) 1 Greeting, Sharing the Mission & Ministry of Epworth Dedication of Sunday school Teachers and Youth Group Leaders *Passing the Peace *Singing in Praise JESUS IS ALIVE Hallelujah! Jesus is alive! Death has lost its vict ry and the grave has been denied. Jesus lives forever He s alive, He s alive! He s the Alpha and Omega, the first and last is He; The curse of sin is broken and we have perfect liberty. The Lamb of God has spoken He s alive, He s alive! Hallelujah! Jesus is alive! Death has lost its vict ry and the grave has been denied. Jesus lives forever He s alive, He s alive! He s the Alpha and Omega, the first and last is He; The curse of sin is broken and we have perfect liberty. The Lamb of God has spoken He s alive, hallelujah, Jesus is alive! (repeat) 2 Rev. Today we light the PEACE CANDLE as we pray for peace throughout our world. *Morning Prayer The Lord s Prayer (sung responsively) *Prayer Response WHEN IT S ALL BEEN SAID AND DONE When it s all been said and done, there is just one thing that matters; Did I do my best to live for truth, did I live my life for You?

When it s all been said and done, all my treasures will mean nothing; Only what I ve done for love s reward, will stand the test of time. Lord, your mercy is so great that You look beyond our weakness; And find purest gold in miry clay, making sinners into saints. I will always sing Your praise, here on earth and ever after; For You ve shown me heaven s my true home, When it s all been said and done, You re my life when life is gone. WE ENGAGE THE WORD *Gospel Lesson Luke 15: 1-10 Michael Cockey NRSV Pg. 920; LP, NT. Pg. 74 Now all the tax collectors and sinners were coming near to listen to him. And the Pharisees and the scribes were grumbling and saying, This fellow welcomes sinners and eats with them. So he told them this parable: Which one of you, having a hundred sheep and losing one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness and go after the one that is lost until he finds it? When he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders and rejoices. And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and neighbors, saying to them, Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep that was lost. Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance. Or what woman having ten silver coins, if she loses one of them, does not light a lamp, sweep the house, and search carefully until she finds it? When she has found it, she calls together her friends and neighbors, saying, Rejoice with me, for I have found the coin that I had lost. Just so, I tell you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents. Brothers and Sisters, This is the Word of God for the People of God. WHEN IT S ALL BEEN SAID AND DONE (CONT) When it s all been said and done, there is just one thing that matters; Did I do my best to live for truth, did I live my life for You? Did I live my life for You? 3 Thanks be to God Sermon Vision 2016: Exploring Faith, Embracing Community Rev. Vicky Starnes

WE RESPOND TO THE WORD Song of Response ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE Almighty God my Redeemer, my hiding place my safe refuge. No other name like Jesus, no power can stand against You. My feet are planted on this rock and I will not be shaken. My hope it comes from You alone, my Lord and my salvation. Your praise is always on my lips, Your word is living in my heart. And I will praise You with a new song, my soul will bless You Lord. You fill my life with greater joy, yes, I delight myself in You. And I will praise You with a new song, my soul will bless You Lord. (verse 2, refrain) (Bridge) When I am weak, You make me strong. When I m poor I know I m rich. For in the power of Your name, all things are possible. All things are possible, all things are possible, all things are possible. (refrain, bridge) Tag: All things are possible. (repeat 4x) 4 Invitation to Offering ~ Please sign the blue Connections Pad and pass it down the row. Rev Vicky Offerings are given through cash and check, electronic giving and by using our Giving Kiosk in the narthex. There are Giving Cards in the pews to place in the plate, if you give electronically or through the Kiosk. Bless your heart for supporting our ministries! WE BELIEVE In this time of desperation, when all we know is doubt and fear, There is only one foundation: we believe, we believe. In this broken generation, when all is dark, you help us see. There is only one salvation: we believe, we believe. (chorus) We believe in God the Father. We believe in Jesus Christ. We believe in the Holy Spirit, and He s given us new life. We believe in the crucifixion. We believe that He conquered death. We believe in the resurrection, and He s coming back again. We believe. So, let our faith be more than anthems, greater than the songs we sing. In our weakness and temptations, we believe we believe! (chorus) (Bridge) Let the lost be found, and dead be raised; in the here and now let love invade. Let the church live loud! Our God will save. We believe! We believe! And the gates of hell will not prevail, for the power of God has torn the veil. Now we know Your love will never fail. We believe! We believe! (chorus) TAG: He s coming back, He s coming back again! He s coming back again! We believe, we believe! 5

We Are Sent into the World Recognition of Disciple Graduates and Dedication of Disciple Teachers *Benediction *Sending Song My Redeemer Lives I know He rescued my soul, His blood, Has covered my sin, I believe, I believe.
