Redeemer Good News November 2018 REDEEMER November 2018 Pastor Steve Ferber Redeemer Lutheran Church & School in Wayzata, MN. Sharing the Changeless Christ in a Changing World! REVEREND. In 1864 President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed a national day of thanksgiving and praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the heavens. Praise we usually associate that word with our response to God s many blessings. Americans have always lived in a land of great blessing; but President Lincoln was asking every citizen to praise I : Redeemer Christian Academy Security Upgrade Funding Raised... 2 Grandparent/VIP Day Well Attended... 2 Breakfast Buddies... 2 Lutheran School State Cross Country Meet Winners2 Join Us! How could they - how can we - possibly think of praising God in the midst of sometimes horrible suffering? By understanding the two realities of the Christian life: John 16:33 In the world you will have trials, but be of good cheer! I have overcome the world. We live in a world devastated by sin. Broken relationships, warfare among nations and within nations; even natural phenomena like hurricanes and tornadoes all come from our own destructive sin. But Jesus came to save His people from their sins (Matthew 1:21). Through His death on the cross and resurrection from the dead, we are forgiven, holy people of God, headed for the glory of Heaven. The God of the universe is with us! Every hair on our head is numbered; the Lord cares for us, He hears our prayers, He provides our daily bread, because He loves each one of us. Harvest of Praise! Our Redeemer family has many opportunities to praise God through worship in the month of November. Sunday, November 4 th is IDOP International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church. Millions of Christians around the world are persecuted for their faith in Christ. We will pray especially for our brothers and sisters in North Korea, and learn the many ways we can support them in their trials. REFLECTIONS Sunday, November 18 th is Adoption Sunday. Children in America and around the world are waiting to become part of a real family through adoption. They long to be loved by a mother and a father, brothers and sisters. We ll learn of the great need to care for orphans, our calling to help those without families, and the many (Reverend Reflections continued on page 3)

2 Redeemer Good News November 2018 REDEEMER CHRISTIAN ACADEMY Linda Wiebold, School Administrator SECURITY UPGRADE FUNDING RAISED! Thanks to the generous donations of both church and school members and friends, we ve reached our goal of $30,000 for funding of the security system upgrades for the entire facility. The new system is currently being installed and tested, and will benefit both the church and school. A few of the features are: High definition cameras for recording entrances, and all parking lots. Improved monitoring of the single-door entry system during school hours, utilizing HD cameras and sign-in system. Upgrades to the use of key pads for staff entrance into the building. Alarm sensors and motion sensors for building doors and hallways. A panic alarm to alert staff and local law enforcement of an emergency. We are so blessed by your generosity! GRANDPARENT/VIP DAY WELL ATTENDED We were blessed to have about 240 people attend our annual recognition of these special people in our lives. Together students and their special visitor attended chapel, visited the classrooms, and enjoyed treats. BREAKFAST BUDDIES Almost every month we offer a special opportunity for dads (or other significant males) and their children to eat breakfast, share a devotion, and enjoy an activity with each other. 8 Redeemer Good News November 2018 REDEEMER YOUTH GROUP NEWS YOU CAN USE! ASP MISSION TRIP FOR THE SUMMER OF 2019 Informational meeting on Monday, October 22nd at 6:00 in the house (parsonage). I am making the assumption that everyone who went on the trip last year will go again (please let me know if that is not true) and that we will add to our group as well. We are hoping to go July 6-14, but won't know our exact date or location until early 2019. Last year we were able to fundraise for all but $50 for each person, and we will likely do the same this year, but will need to discuss this as a group. Please prayerfully consider joining us as we will need to make a nonrefundable commitment of $50 per person by November 1st and begin our fundraising and training shortly after! FALL RETREAT TO TROUT LAKE CAMP We have scheduled our Fall Retreat for November 9th to 11th at Trout Lake Camp. Thank you Dave Lindberg for volunteering to chaperone this retreat! The cost will be $120 or less per student. If you are able to contribute more than this, donations are welcome and can be turned in to Stacy in the office. The final price depends on how many attend, how much fundraising we can do and the cost for transportation. We plan to do one babysitting night as a fundraiser between now and then. Please see the sign-up below to help. Even if you have told me that you want to register, chaperone or drive, please officially register here!!! With the drivers we currently have, we do have room for more youth! Who else wants to join us? Sign up at https://www.signupgenius.com/go/70a 0B49ABAC2CA46-trout BABYSITTING NIGHT FUNDRAISER! October 27th - Volunteers to arrive at 4:30 and stay until 9:45. Please sign up here to help (I have limited the number of helpers to ten on purpose - sometimes too many helpers makes it more difficult to manage ). Sign up at https://www.signupgenius.com/go/70a0b4 9ABAC2CA46-babysitting WEDNESDAY NIGHTS! Dinner at 5:30 - Youth group 6:00 to7:30/7:45pm. Pick up in the lower lot at the doors by the church office. As a reminder, I do not have regular "office hours" at Redeemer so if you need me, please contact me via email (Many of you have my personal email address, but please use the Youth@redeemerwayzata.org address for anything related to youth group. Thanks!) or by my cell phone number that is listed below. I am open to any ideas and suggestions that any of you may have to make the Redeemer Youth Group the best it can be! YOU are a blessing! FALL WORK DAY THANK YOU A long list of indoor and outdoor tasks was accomplished by the volunteers. Not having to hire outside services to complete these tasks saves the church and academy significant funds every year. Please consider volunteering next time for Spring Work Day on Saturday, May 4th. There are always more tasks that need to be done than can be completed by the volunteers that show up on Work Day. Redeemer Board of Trustees W.I.N.G.S.
