C Amen Where two or three are gathered in my name, there I am among them. Matthew 18:20

Transfiguration P C P C P C God of grace, sometimes discipleship is so difficult. We see you standing in front of us and we look for glory. Then you tell us to expect heartbreak and challenge. We get a glimpse of your glory, and we are confused, frightened, unsure what to do or say. God of grace, made known in Jesus Christ, in the challenge and in the glory you call us to look toward you, to listen to you. Grant us the grace and wisdom to watch, to listen, to follow, to learn, and, in the end, to possibly understand, as we join you on The Way, as we explore the glorious Kingdom. 2

(Please stand as you are able) Beautiful Savior 1 Beautiful Savior, King of creation, Son of God and Son of Man! Truly I d love thee, truly I d serve thee, light of my soul, my joy, my crown. 2 Fair are the meadows, fair are the woodlands, robed in flow rs of blooming spring; Jesus is fairer, Jesus is purer, he makes our sorrowing spirit sing. 3 Fair is the sunshine, fair is the moonlight, bright the sparkling stars on high; Jesus shines brighter, Jesus shines purer than all the angels in the sky. 4 Beautiful Savior, Lord of the nations, Son of God and Son of Man! Glory and honor, praise, adoration, now and forevermore be thine! Text: Gesangbuch, Münster, 1677; tr. Joseph A. Seiss, 1823-1904 3

(Please be seated) Confession and Forgiveness P Forgive us, O God, when we stumble in the darkness and turn away from your face. C P Strengthen us to walk in your brightness and live in your ways. Enlighten the shadows that keep us from growing in your love and light. Shower us with your grace, that we might shine as your people upon this earth. We are God s Beloved; with us, God is well pleased. We are renewed and restored. We are forgiven and loved. 4

Open our eyes, Lord, we want to see Jesus to reach our and touch him, and say that we love him. Open our ears, Lord, and help us to listen. Open our eyes, Lord, we want to see Jesus. Mark 9:2-9 2 Six days later, Jesus took with him Peter and James and John, and led them up a high mountain apart, by themselves. And he was transfigured before them, 3 and his clothes became dazzling white, such as no one on earth could bleach them. 4 And there appeared to them Elijah with Moses, who were talking with Jesus. 5 Then Peter said to Jesus, Rabbi, it is good for us to be here; let us make three dwellings, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah. 6 He did not know what to say, for they were terrified. 7 Then a cloud overshadowed them, and from the cloud there came a voice, This is my Son, the Beloved; listen to him! 8 Suddenly when they looked around, they saw no one with them any more, but only Jesus. 9 As they were coming down the mountain, he ordered them to tell no one about what they had seen, until after the Son of Man had risen from the dead. 5

Sonatina Antonin Dvorak Joe Malmquist, violin Marge Malmquist, piano The Word (Please stand as you are able) Gospel: Matthew 28:16-20 P The Gospel according to Saint Matthew, the twenty-eighth chapter. C Glory to you, O Lord. 16 Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 And Jesus came and said to them, All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age. P C The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, O Christ. (Please be seated) Sermon Pastor Jeff Mikyska 6

(Please stand as you are able) Lord, You Give the Great Commission Lord, you give the great commission: Heal the sick and preach the word. Lest the church neglect its mission, and the gospel go unheard, help us witness to your purpose with renewed integrity: Refrain With the Spirit s gifts empow r us for the work of ministry. Lord, you call us to your service: In my name baptize and teach. That the world may trust your promise, life abundant meant for each, give us all new fervor, draw us closer in community: Refrain Lord, you bless with words assuring: I am with you to the end. Faith and hope and love restoring, may we serve as you intend and, amid the cares that claim us, hold in mind eternity: Refrain Text: Jeffery Rowthorn, b. 1934 Text 1978 Hope Publishing Company, Carol Stream, IL 60188. Epiphany Creed P We confess our faith. C I believe in God, the creator of the universe, who spoke, Let there be light! and there was light, setting in motion all of creation and blessing it to this day. I believe in Jesus Christ, the light of the world That shines in the darkness. The darkness cannot overcome it. He embodied humanity in the image of God. In kindness, truthfulness, humility and devotion, He suffered for the greater good. He was and is the Son of God. He died on the cross for us, God s saving grace! 8

I believe in the Holy Spirit, The guiding light of God in our world. Through his spirit, God penetrates and reveals the darkness of human sin, helps people grow and become the people they are meant to be. I believe in the power of transformation, Through God s spirit and light, Here in this world and in the world to come. Amen (Please be seated) This little light of mine, I m goin -a let it shine; this little light of mine, I m goin -a let it shine; this little light of mine, I m goin -a let it shine, let it shine, let it shine, let it shine. 9

The Meal The Words of Institution P In the night in which he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus took bread, broke it, and gave thanks; and gave it to his disciples saying: Take and eat; this is my body, given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me. 11

Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to drink, saying: This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance of me. The Lord s Supper P As we listen for your word that calls us to follow, we speak of that mystery we call faith C Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again. The Lord s Prayer P Gathered into one by the Holy Spirit, let us pray as Jesus taught us: C Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen 12
