Baby In The Basket Exodus 1-2 God s people, the Israelites, were living in Egypt. But Pharaoh, the King of Egypt, didn t like the Israelites. So Pharaoh made the Israelites do all the hard work. Pharaoh decided to get rid of the baby boys by throwing them in the river. The Israelites were very, very sad. One of the Israelite women had a beautiful baby boy called Moses. She tried to hide him from Pharaoh s soldiers. She made a basket that floated on water. She placed baby Moses in the basket and put the basket in the river. Then Moses big sister watched over her baby brother. Pharaoh s daughter came down to the river. She saw the basket and opened it. There she saw a beautiful baby boy. She felt sad for the little baby. Moses' sister went up to her and asked, Do you want me to get a women to look after the baby? Pharaoh s daughter said, "Yes." So Moses' sister ran and got her mother. Moses' mother took him home and looked after him. When Moses had grown bigger, he went to live with Pharaoh s daughter in the Palace. Pharaoh tried to hurt the Israelites. But there was one baby God would not let Pharaoh hurt - Moses. God kept Moses safe so that one day he could grow up and save God's people. When Jesus was a baby, God kept him safe. Safe from an angry King who wanted to hurt him. God kept Jesus safe, so that he could grow up and save us. 2012 Kidswise www.kidswise.com.au

The Burning Bush Exodus 3-4 Moses grew up in Pharaoh's palace. But one day Moses did something really bad. He was scared so he ran away. He got a job looking after sheep. One day Moses took the sheep into the desert and climbed a mountain. Moses saw a bush on fire. The bush burnt and burnt and burnt but the bush did not burn up. Suddenly God spoke from the burning bush. "Moses! Do not come any closer. Take off your sandals. The ground you are standing on is very special." Moses took off his sandals and hid his face. He knew God was speaking to him. Then God told Moses, "I ve heard the Israelites. I want to rescue them and take them to a new land. A land I promised to Abraham. And I want you to go and bring them out of Egypt." Moses was not sure. He was a nobody! God promised, "I will be with you Moses." But Moses was afraid. He did not think anyone would listen to him. Then God told him to throw his shepherd s staff on the ground. As soon as Moses threw it on the ground, the staff became a snake! But when Moses picked it up, it became a staff again. Then God told Moses to put his hand inside his coat. As soon as Moses put his hand inside his coat his hand was white and covered in sores. But when Moses put his hand back inside his coat, his hand was back to normal. God told Moses, "Show these amazing things to the people. Then they will know you are speaking for me." But Moses cried out, "Please send someone else!" God was angry with Moses because he didn't trust him. In the end God let Aaron, Moses' brother, help him speak. Moses was afraid. He did not want to help rescue the Israelites. The good news is that Jesus was not afraid to rescue us. Jesus was very willing to die on a cross to save us. Jesus said Yes to saving us! 2012 Kidswise www.kidswise.com.au

The Plagues Exodus 5-12 The Israelites cried out to God to help them so God sent Moses. Moses went to Pharaoh and said, God said, 'Let my people go'. But Pharaoh said, No! So God made the river turn to blood. The river full of blood! Yuck! But Pharaoh would not let God's people go! Again, Moses went to Pharaoh and said, God said, 'Let my people go'. But Pharaoh said, No! So God sent frogs. Frogs in the bedroom. Frogs in the bed! Frogs everywhere! But Pharaoh would not let God's people go! Again, Moses went to Pharaoh and said, God said, 'Let my people go'. But Pharaoh said, No! So God sent biting insects. Biting insects bit every man, woman and child! But Pharaoh would not let God's people go! Again, Moses went to Pharaoh and said, God said, 'Let my people go'. But Pharaoh said, No! So God sent flies. Flies on the food. Flies in people s eyes. Flies everywhere! But Pharaoh would not let God's people go! Again, Moses went to Pharaoh and said, God said, 'Let my people go'. But Pharaoh said, No! So God made all the sheep, cows and horse sick. The sheep, cows and horses all died! But Pharaoh would not let God's people go! Again, Moses went to Pharaoh and said, God said, 'Let my people go'. But Pharaoh said, No! So God made the people be covered in sores. Every man woman and child all covered in sores! But Pharaoh would not let God's people go! Again, Moses went to Pharaoh and said, God said, 'Let my people go'. But Pharaoh said, No! So God sent hail. Hail fell on all the houses, all the animals and all the people! But Pharaoh would not let God's people go! Again, Moses went to Pharaoh and said, God said, 'Let my people go'. But Pharaoh said, No! So God sent locusts. Locusts ate up all the grass, all the crops and all the food! But Pharaoh would not let God's people go! Again, Moses went to Pharaoh and said, God said, 'Let my people go'. But Pharaoh said, No! So God made it dark. For one, two, three days, no one could see anything! But Pharaoh would not let God's people go! Again, Moses went to Pharaoh and said, God said, 'Let my people go'. But Pharaoh said, No! Finally, God sent the most terrible plague of all. The eldest son in every Egyptian house died. And finally Pharaoh let God's people go! It was God who saved the Israelites. God is the only one who can save us. We don t need saving from the Egyptians. We need saving from problems we cause by not obeying God. And only God can save us. He did this by sending Jesus. 2012 Kidswise www.kidswise.com.au

The Parting Of The Sea Exodus 13-15 God sent plague after plague after plague till finally, Pharaoh let the Israelites go. God led them out of Egypt till they came to a sea. Meanwhile, back in Egypt, Pharaoh changed his mind. He chased after them and found them camped near the sea. The Israelites cried out, "Why have you brought us out here to die? It would've been better to stay in Egypt!" But God said, "Do not be afraid!" That night God separated the Egyptians and the Israelites. He placed his cloud between them. God told Moses to stretch out his staff over the sea. So Moses stretched out his staff over the sea. All night long, God sent a wind to push the sea in half. All night long, God's wind blew and blew and blew till it dried up the sand on the bottom of the sea. When the ground was dry, the Israelites marched through the sea. A wall of water was on one side of them. And a wall of water was on the other side of them. The Israelites walked safely through the sea. The Egyptians saw the Israelites march into the sea, so they chased them. But God confused the Egyptian army. He made the wheels fall off their chariots and it was hard for them to drive. Then God told Moses to stretch out his staff again. As soon as Moses stretched out his staff, the sea flowed back. The sea swallowed up the Egyptian army. Not one Egyptian survived. God had saved the Israelites! God is never trapped. Not by an army and not by a sea. Nothing stops God from rescuing his people. 2012 Kidswise www.kidswise.com.au

Grumbling In The Desert Exodus 16-17 After the Israelites had walked through the sea, they stopped and thanked God for saving them. But they weren't thankful for long. They marched off into the desert. Soon they began to grumble, "We're hungry. We're very, very hungry." Some of the people cried out, "We want to go back to Egypt! In Egypt we had food!" God heard their grumbling. He was kind to them. He sent them bread from heaven to eat. Every morning, when they woke up, bread came - God's special bread from heaven called manna. Some people collected lots and lots of manna. Some people collected only a little bit of manna. But when they came to cook the manna, everyone had enough. God also sent birds in the evening for the people to eat. God fed his people every day they were in the desert. But it wasn't long before the Israelites grumbled again, "We're thirsty. We're very, very thirsty." Some of the people cried out, "We want to go back to Egypt! In Egypt we had lots of water!" God heard their grumbling. He was kind to them. God told Moses to take his staff and hit a rock. So Moses took his staff and hit the rock. As soon as he hit the rock, water flowed out. God gave his people water to drink. God saved the Israelites even though they didn t deserve to be saved. When they had no food, God gave them food to eat. When they had no water, he gave them water to drink. Even though they didn t deserve it, God was kind to them. And saved us, even though we don t deserve it. He saved us by sending Jesus. 2012 Kidswise www.kidswise.com.au

Mount Sinai Exodus 19, 20 The Israelites were slaves in Egypt. They cried out to God to save them. So God sent Moses and finally Pharaoh let them go. The Israelites packed up everything and set off. God led them with a cloud during the day and fire at night, till finally they came to a sea. The Egyptians, however, decided they wanted the Israelites back so they chased them. Again God saved them. He sent a wind to push the sea in half and they walked safely through to the other side. But soon they ran out of food. They were hungry, very, very hungry. Again God saved them. He made manna (which tastes like bread and honey) fall to the ground every morning. He sent small birds for them to eat every night. They were now in the desert. There was no water. The Israelites were thirsty, very, very thirsty. But God saved them. He made water come out of a rock. God saved his people and brought them to a mountain. A cloud covered the mountain. Thunder and lightning filled the sky. Moses went up the mountain and God spoke. He told them how to live as his people. He gave them ten special rules for them to obey. God saves his people then he tells them what they should do. God saves us and so now we obey him. 2012 Kidswise www.kidswise.com.au

Your God Will Be My God! Ruth 1 A long time ago, there lived a woman named Naomi. She was an Israelite, who lived in Bethlehem with her husband and two sons. But things were not good in Bethlehem. Food was hard to find and Naomi s family were very hungry. They didn t trust that God would take care of them. So Naomi and her family packed up and left Bethlehem. They walked along the windy road, up the little hills, around the sea, over the mountains till they all reached Moab. But when they arrived in Moab, Naomi s husband died! She was very sad. Then one of Naomi s sons married Ruth and one married Orpah. They lived there for ten years. But then, Naomi s two sons died! Naomi was left without a husband and without her sons. She was very, very sad. Then Naomi heard that God had sent rain and there was food again in Bethlehem. So, Naomi, Ruth and Orpah packed up their things. But Naomi said to Ruth and Orpah, Go back to your home. May God be kind to you, just like you have been kind to me. She kissed them goodbye and Orpah went home. But Ruth would not go. She cried, Please, please don t make me go. I will go where you go. Your people will be my people. Your God will be my God. Naomi knew that Ruth had decided. So Naomi and Ruth began the long journey back to Bethlehem. They walked back along the windy road, up the little hills, around the sea, over the mountains till they reached Bethlehem. Ruth decided to follow Naomi s God - the God of the Bible, the one and only God. 2012 Kidswise www.kidswise.com.au

The Kindness Of Boaz Ruth 2 Naomi and Ruth didn t have much money. They had arrived back in Bethlehem when people were beginning to collect the grain. Ruth decided to go and collect the grain the men dropped. She could use the grain to make bread. Ruth went into a field owned by a man named Boaz. When Boaz saw Ruth he asked his men who she was. The men told him, She is Ruth. She came back from Moab with Naomi. She has been working hard all morning. So Boaz told Ruth to stay and collect grain only in his field. He promised that his men would take care of her. Ruth thanked Boaz for being so kind to her. Then Boaz said, I have heard about what you have done for Naomi. How you left your home to live here. May God be kind to you. Then Boaz gave Ruth some food to eat and she went back to work. Boaz told a man to pull out some grain and drop it especially for Ruth to pick up. So Ruth continued to pick up grain. At the end of the day she had collected heaps of grain. She took it home and showed Naomi. Naomi was amazed. So much grain! Naomi asked, Where did you work? Ruth replied, In a field owned by a man named Boaz. Naomi was excited, Boaz! He is a close relative of ours. He is someone who can help! So Naomi told Ruth to work only in Boaz field. Boaz was very kind to Ruth. Boaz kindness toward Ruth reminds us that God is amazingly kind to us. He sent Jesus to rescue us and he cares for each of us. 2012 Kidswise www.kidswise.com.au

Ruth, Boaz And God s Big Plan Ruth 3-4 Naomi was excited! Boaz had been kind to Ruth. And Naomi had a plan! Naomi said, Ruth, you should have a husband. This is what I want you to do. Tonight, Boaz will be working late. Put on your best clothes and perfume. Wait until it is dark. Go down to where Boaz is. But don t let him see you. Wait until he has eaten. When he falls asleep go and lie at his feet. Take the blanket off his feet. He will tell you what to do. Boaz woke up and saw a girl lying at his feet. He asked, Who s there? Ruth answered, It s Ruth. Please spread your blanket over me. Boaz knew that Ruth was asking him to marry her. Boaz stood up and said, May God bless you. You have not gone after younger men. I will do what you have asked. But Boaz had a problem. There was someone who was a closer relative to Ruth who should marry her. So Boaz went to the town gate. When Boaz saw the closer relative, he called and said, Naomi is selling her land. I thought you should know. Do you want to buy it? The close relative said, Yes, I will. Then Boaz said, Then you must marry Ruth as well. But the close relative said, No! I can t. You buy it. Then Boaz took off his sandal. This showed everyone that the deal was done! Boaz married Ruth and they had a baby called Obed. Obed was King David s grandfather. But their most famous relative was Jesus! Naomi was very happy. Boaz rescued Ruth by marrying her. But Ruth and Boaz great, great, great, great grandson, Jesus, would rescue the whole world. 2012 Kidswise www.kidswise.com.au

Jesus' Death And Resurrection John 19:16-42; Luke 24:1-12 Some days are happy days. Some days are sad days. Let s begin with the saddest day of all. Some men didn't like Jesus. They put Jesus on a cross. The soldiers took Jesus' clothes and played a game to see who would get to keep them. Some women were there. They were very, very sad because Jesus was dying. Jesus lifted his head and said, "I am thirsty." A soldier held up a sponge full of water so that Jesus could drink. Then Jesus bowed his head and died. One of Jesus' friends took Jesus' body and put it in a big cave called a tomb. They rolled a big stone in front of it and then they all went home. God's only Son had died on a cross. What a sad, sad day! The saddest day of all was soon followed by the happiest day of all. Some of Jesus friends, the women, went to wash Jesus' body but the big stone in front of the tomb had been rolled away! Suddenly two men in shining clothes stood beside them. The women were afraid and bowed their heads. But the two men said, "Don't be afraid! Jesus is not here. Jesus was dead, but now he is alive!" The women got up and ran. They ran all the way back to where Jesus' friends were and shouted, "Jesus is alive! Jesus is alive!" Jesus' friends were confused. It sounded like nonsense. Then one of Jesus' friends, Peter, got up and ran back to the tomb. Peter found the stone rolled away and the tomb was empty - just like the women had said. Jesus died but he didn't stay dead. Jesus is alive! Jesus died to save us. We know that he did save us because he came back to life again. 2012 Kidswise www.kidswise.com.au
