TODAY AT ELMHURST CRC Prayer is not easy. Richard Foster writes that to pray is to change. When we practice biblical prayer our lives will change! We will explore a variety of models of prayer during this Palm Sunday service. NEXT WEEK AT ELMHURST CRC On Easter Sunday we will celebrate the most miraculous event in world history, the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead! Our two services will be identical and will feature inspiring music and a powerful message of hope. Jesus has defeated our greatest enemy, death. Therefore there is nothing that we face in life that should paralyze us with fear or cause us to lose heart. Join us for this engaging hour of worship. Holy Week 2015 DEVOTIONALS Holy Week begins on Palm Sunday with Jesus talking about the rocks crying out in worship, and ends on Easter Sunday with a huge rock being rolled away from the empty tomb and us crying out in worship and praise. We invite you to take a significant moment each day to consider the symbolic weight and beauty that rocks play in the story that changes everything. Each day you will have the opportunity to interact with, and experience, Jesus passion story through readings and different activities with rocks. Daily devotionals will be delivered via email or text, Palm Sunday thru Easter Sunday. Sign up online at elmhurstcrc.org/events to receive daily emails. Text the word ECRC to the number 292-929 to receive texts. SERVICES Maundy Thursday: April 2 at 7 pm On Maundy Thursday we remember the last supper celebrated by Jesus and his twelve disciples. In this service we will recount the dramatic action of Jesus as he washed his disciples feet. This worship service will be held in the Garden Room and conclude with the celebration of the sacrament of Holy Communion in obedience to Jesus command to do this in remembrance of me. Good Friday/Tenebrae: April 3 at 7 pm Tenebrae is the Latin word for shadows. This solemn service of worship recalls the passion of Jesus through scripture and song as the power of darkness and shadow seemingly grows. The Elmhurst CRC Choir will lead us in worship as we listen, remember and meditate on the seven last words of Jesus spoken from the cross.

Easter Sunday Morning: April 5 at 8:55 & 11:05 am On Easter Sunday we will celebrate the most miraculous event in world history, the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead! Our two services will be identical and will feature inspiring music and a powerful message of hope. Jesus has defeated our greatest enemy, death. Therefore there is nothing that we face in life that should paralyze us with fear or cause us to lose heart. Join us for this engaging hour of worship. Nursery for children 0-36 months is available at all services. A STARTER PLAN FOR DAILY PRAYER (15 MINUTES) from Prayer: Experiencing Awe and Intimacy With God by Timothy Keller Approaching Think of the privilege of prayer. Realize God is present. Ask him to help you pray. Meditation Read a Scripture passage. Discern one or two truths you learn there. Choose the one that most impresses you and write it in a sentence. Now ask: How does this truth help me praise God? How does it show me a sin to confess? How does it show me something to ask God for? Word Prayer Now turn the answers to the three questions into a prayer - adoration, petition, and supplication. Free Prayer Pray about whatever needs are on your heart. Also spend time thanking God for the ways you see him working in your life and caring for you. Contemplation Take a moment to thank and admire God for what he has showed you today. End with a note of praise. OUR CHURCH FAMILY The Missionary of the month is Mama Maggie Gobran in Egypt, who offers hope and transformation for children and families living in Cairo s slums and impoverished communities in rural Upper Egypt. This ministry touches nearly 30,000 children and their families each year. The Missions Team is also looking for housing during the month of June and July for our missionaries. The other need is for a Jubilee Fellow from Calvin College, a single college junior who will be engaged this summer with an internship of prison ministry. If you want more information please contact Rev, Mike Boot, or any Missions Team member about these housing needs.
