Minister s Monthly Message: February 2016 I rise before dawn and cry for help; I hope in your words. My eyes are awake before the watches of the night, that I may meditate on your promise. (Psalm 119:147-148 ESV) I recently read an article in which the story was told of a pastor who had been sharing God s Word with a hard-working and intense advertising executive. During one of their discussions the advertising executive told the pastor that he didn t have time to spend time with God and read His Word because of his daily work responsibilities and commute to work. The pastor responded with, I have always been able to make time for stuff I value. I m making time for a meeting with God in my life. You can imagine how that went over with the business man he walked away upset. A few months later the pastor ran into that business man again and his attitude had changed. The business man invited the pastor and his wife over for supper one night. Once the pastor was in his house, the man ushered him to the backyard to show him a rocking chair. The man said to the pastor, I have a little backyard here and I love looking out So I bought this chair to look out over the yard. Each morning I get up fifteen to thirty minutes early. I sit in the chair. I have a cup of coffee. I read God s Word. I try to make sense of it. I ask Him to speak to me by His Word. Then I meditate on it, reflect on it, and apply it to my life. Then I write some thoughts down in a journal and I pray that I will be more aware of His presence. When the pastor asked how that was working out for the man, the man s wife jumped in and answered that he was a changed man when he faithfully used that chair, changed in every aspect of his life. This year, February is the beginning of Lent. Lent is that time when we are to take time extra time even! to meditate on and reflect on our Lord s suffering and death for our sins. Not only do we have the opportunity to come together and meditate on it in worship on mornings, but also during the week on Wednesday evenings. But our meeting God in His Word and our meditating on His Holy Passion shouldn t be limited to just worship services. So my question for you is, Where is your chair, where is your place to spend 15-30 minutes regularly with your Lord? Unfortunately, our answer may very well be, I don t have a place like that because it s not something I regularly do. However, God wants us to meet Him regularly in His Word, so if we don t have a place to spend some time with Him on a regular basis we need to and should want to find such a place so that we can be strengthened by that wonderful message His Word contains: Jesus lived and died for us, and that by faith that life and death, along with the forgiveness and salvation they offer, are ours. As we are about to begin this Lenten season, let s all strive and want to find that place where we can go regularly to read God s Word, hear what He has to say to us (even if we have heard it before!), meditate on it and apply it to our lives. When we do that, our Lord s Holy Passion will not only affect our eternity, but it will also affect our lives each and every day!
IMMANUEL LUTHERAN CHURCH WISCONSIN EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN SYNOD 2001 Jackson St. Pastor Andy Schmidt Mosinee, WI 54455 www.ilcmosinee.com (715) 693-2910 www.wels.net January 15, 2016 Dear Immanuel Members, On January 6 the members of Mountain of the Lord, Rib Mountain, extended to Pastor Jon Hadler (St. Matthew, Marathon) and me the call to serve as their vacancy pastors beginning January 15. Having met with our respective church councils and receiving their blessing, we have accepted this call and together we will co-pastor the vacancy. We are anticipating that the vacancy will last, at a minimum, at least four months. For your information, worship services at Mountain of the Lord will be on s at 8:30 AM, with services at St. Matthew, Marathon on Saturdays at 7 PM and s at 10 AM. Our service times will remain the same. If you are unable to make our services, but are able to make one of the others, you are encouraged to do so. The way Pastor Hadler and I are planning to handle the vacancy in respect to worship services is to alternate weeks (although there will be some alterations necessary, especially in January, and guest preachers as needed). St. Matthew and Mountain of the Lord one weekend for one, and Immanuel for the other. Serving a vacancy not only presents the vacancy congregation with numerous challenges, but also the host congregation(s). I m confident that this congregation is fit for the task. Please keep the members of Mountain of the Lord in your prayers as they go through this transition, and Pastor Hadler and I would ask you to remember us also in your prayers. Mountain of the Lord s first call meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, January 27. In Christ, Pastor Schmidt IF ANYONE THIRSTS, LET HIM COME TO ME AND DRINK ~ John 7:37

Over $300.00 was sent to the Apache Mission. These are excerpts from the thank you letter received from Bonnie Lewis: "I was very surprised when I opened the one with the check... My husband said that I was very blessed by the Lord. I had run out of little things like toys, snacks, school supplies and books to give my students for their sticker books." They earn these goodies by good behavior and good work. "Right now I am reading the Bible to keep ahead of the kids Bible story. Soon we will all be doing the Christmas service where they will recite together as a class and sing a couple songs. This is for all grades. Each class has their own parts". "Francis and I have been getting together with the Ladies Aide and now we have a band called, LAMB (Lutheran Apache Mission Band. I got to play bass guitar for the Thanksgiving service which included a commissioning service for Pastor Joel Sutton who is leaving for Mexico. " "The Lord has been good to us. We have 9th grade started this year. We will add 10th next year. Add another high school (year) each year. " Bonnie is the 1st grade teacher there, active in their Ladies group and anywhere else she can be of service to her people. Thank the Lord for all His blessings
