Family Unity Night July 18th A welcome to our incoming Grand Knight, Jose Tapia: A council tradition that has grown in popularity recently is our monthly potluck dinner social that we call Family Unity Night or FUN. The number of families and individuals that attend has increased to an average monthly crowd of about fifty. Most families attending are members of the Knights of Columbus or Ladies Auxiliary, but some are Christians and Gentiles from the area, and just want to share a meal with us. ALL ARE WELCOME! Please spread the word. Some highlights this month: It was incoming Grand Knight Jose Tapia s first FUN evening as our leader. Past Grand Knight Jaime Flores was presented an award for twenty-five consecutive years of service to the Knights of Columbus. And finally, our new Deacon at St. Genevieve s, Brother Steve Apodaca, his wife Lady Amy, and his parents and sister joined us for the evening. It was a great night. Please enjoy the photos below. PANCAKE BREAKFAST FOR THE TIM THOMAS FAMILY JULY 22: There is nothing more important than assisting a Brother Knight and his family in times of hardship. Our council has committed to helping Brother Tim Thomas and his family with some of the unexpected medical expenses they have recently incurred. On Sunday, July 22 nd, we held a Pancake Breakfast & Bake Sale to assist the Thomas Family. Tickets were sent to Brother Knights to sell to friends and family. We also appealed to Brothers to purchase extra tickets and donate the plates to the needy at El Caldito and Gospel Rescue Mission. Installation of Crosses in the San Jose Cemetery Saturday, July 28 th. Grand Knight Jose Tapia, his father Teofilo Tapia, and Brother Stephen Echlepp have been working with St. Genevieve Parish Historian Rosemary Leyva to improve and beautify the old San Jose Cemetery. Recently, they built and painted seventy-two crosses to be placed on the graves. On Saturday, July 28 th, a group of volunteers placed all of the crosses at the old cemetery. Fr. Kevin McDonald was there to give the Blessing and Rosemary Leyva assisted in identifying the graves. There is much work remaining to be done, so this project will continue into the future. The mission of Respect for the Dead is a cornerstone of the Knights of Columbus Organization. Brother Sammy Holguin & PGK Jaime Flores place a cross in the cemetery Parish Historial Rosemary Leyva and Bro Ruben Salcido were there to help Brother Luis Garcia is carefully working The entire crew: Joe Tapia, Rick Chavez, Jaime Flores, Guy Floyd, Ruben S. at placing one of the new crosses Fr Kevin, Sammy Holguin, Rbto Martinez Jr&Sr, Martin Tapia, & Luis Garcia MEGA BINGO REVIEW: A Mega Bingo Standing Committee is hard at work preparing for the October 6 th event. INSURANCE AGENT S MESSAGE The Value of Membership Referrals As your Field Agent, one of the things I appreciate most is when one of my brother Knights or his wife refers another member to me. This is a great endorsement of the service I provided. It tells me that you were so pleased with the value of what I helped you accomplish that you want me to help those close to you achieve the same level of financial safety and security. Similarly, there is no stronger membership recruiting tool than the referral. How many of us know an eligible Catholic male who is not a member of the Knights of Columbus? Do you have Catholic family or friends, local or not, who have yet to join? Most likely, they ve never been asked and don t know enough about the Order to seek out membership on their own. If you have names of potential members, please pass them along to me, your Chancellor, or your Grand Knight. Let us know if we can use your name when we contact the gentlemen in question. It s always more effective to tell a potential new member that he was recommended by a current member, especially someone he knows. Don t forget that often our best recruiters are right there in our own homes our wives! Many members I ve met with found their way into the Knights based on conversations their wives had with a KC member s wife. After all, what Catholic woman doesn t hope for her husband to be become a better man, a better father, a better Catholic, and a better husband? Don t worry if the candidate is outside the area I serve or beyond the district of the local councils, we can make sure we put these future members in touch with the right people in their communities.. Perhaps they d like to test drive membership through the e- membership program, available at www.knights.net. It s a quick, low pressure way for them to join, it encourages them in their faith through regular email content and provides an easy door into a local council as soon as they are ready. New members working hand in hand with current active members are the lifeblood of the Order. All the good deeds done by the Order are driven by the members. Over the past decade, Knights have given more than $1.65 billion to charity and provided in excess of 700 million hours of service. And our membership has merely scratched the surface in New Mexico. Imagine the potential! Matthew Seltzer (575)936-7181 matthewseltzer.com FIESTA REVIEW Our Council & Ladies Auxiliary has been assigned 6 activities (1) Kid s Games (2) Kid s Prize Booth (3) Ticket Booths (4) Selling Ads & coordinating the Fiesta Book (5) Cleaning of Pots & Pans (6) Grounds Maintenance.
