From the desk of Father... Page 2 November 11, 2018 Parish Happenings Maintaining old structures like we have here at St. Francis de Sales is pretty much a daily task. We are having plumbing problems with the pipes of the church and rectory. The major problem is that some who use the church bathroom are putting things down the toilet that shouldn't be in a toilet. The pipes can t handle these products and so they get blocked up. We are asking that those who use the church bathrooms, obey the signs and use the waste baskets to throw away objects that can t be put in the toilets. We need the cooperation of everyone to maintain a working bathroom system. Thank you, Members and their families and friends of Knights of Columbus Riverside Council, No. 1638, are convening today at the 11:30am Mass to remember their deceased members during this Month of All Souls. The local unit is required by it s Order s by-laws to assist at such a Memorial Mass to remember their deceased; many whom were active members for decades here at St. Francis de Sales, nearby Our Lady of Guadalupe and St. Catherine of Alexandria Church. Six Knights in particular were recorded as lost since the Council s last liturgy: William D. Utby, S.K., Charles D. Weaver, PGK, Anthony A. Lopez, Stephen R. Poe, Dr. Louis F. Parker, and S.K. Harold G. Barnes. Some Knights work for years at pancake breakfasts, spaghetti dinners, parish festivals, Feast of Corpus Christi events, Rosary, Pro Life activities, fund raisers for our Catholic schools, repairing and refinishing school desks, hosting recreational events for our altar servers, supporting youth athletics, assisting our Bishop with organized manpower at his request parish facility and property maintenance, as care givers to parishioners, supplying American flags, providing assistance to bereaved parishioners and SFDS School students on occasion, gifting sacramental vessels and Mass kits, as ushers, lectors, extraordinary ministries, catechists and more. Any good Catholic man who wishes to add to their treasure of good works and witness to Christ, need only say to one of them: I want to join you! Thank you parishioners of St. Francis de Sales Church for your kind consideration and accommodation of the Knights of Columbus here this Veterans Day, and for more that 116 years!

Next Sunday, November 18th, the Women s Ministry will host a Holiday Boutique and Have- it -UR Way breakfast from 7:30am to 1:30pm, in the parish hall. The breakfast will consist of bacon, eggs (your way), hash browns, biscuits and coffee or juice, all for $7. On Saturday, November 17th, only the Holiday Boutique will be open from 4:30pm to 7:30pm. We invite everyone to come and shop, eat, and enjoy the fellowship of St. Francis de Sales. All proceeds will go toward the maintenance of our parish. St Francis de Sales Christmas Food Drive and Giving Tree Whatever you do to the least of my brothers, that you do unto me. We need donations of non-perishable food items to help provide assistance to our less fortunate families in our parish this Christmas. Grocery bags will be available this weekend for use in bringing your donations of non-perishable, not expired food. Drop off will begin the weekend of November 17th and 18th in the parish hall or during the week at the parish office. Please see page 7 of the bulletin for a list of food items. Our annual Christmas Giving Tree will be located in the main entrance of the Church, November 16th. Gift Tags with the family number, along with the age and gender of each child, will be placed on the tree. You may take a gift tag and bring the WRAPPED GIFT WITH THE TAG ATTACHED to the Parish Office NO LATER THAN Sunday, December 9th. No gift will be accepted after this date. Please don't forget our deadlines - we need to distribute the toys before Christmas to the children, so plan on getting your presents in early!
