Family Ministry In the Family Ministry at South Main, we use a curriculum called Orange. It s called Orange because if you put the colors Red (represen ng the heart of the home) and Yellow (represen ng the light of the church) together, you get Orange. One of the major philosophies of the Orange curriculum is pu ng children into small groups or Leading Small. We adopted this approach in our MainKids ministry this year. We have divided our 1st 4th grade Sunday School classes into eight small, graded groups. There are about 10 12 children per group, and these groups have been matched with the perfect small group adult leaders. Each leader has made a commitment to Leading Small by doing special things to connect with children outside of church me and building a personal rela onship with each child. A ending a child s soccer prac ce, accompanying their class during Kids Day Out, wri ng a note to let them know they are praying for them, and organizing father/son baseball games are just a few examples of the ways our adult leaders are connec ng with the children in their Sunday school class... not just on Sundays but all the days. Research tells us that one of the greatest predictors of young adults con nuing their life in the church is their ability to connect with a Circle of 5 : five people in their life (who are not their parents) who built a rela onship with them at church and encouraged them in their faith when they were a child. Our Sunday school small group leaders aim to be one of our MainKids five, helping to secure their faith in Jesus forever. Each of our 1st 4th grade Sunday school small group classes had an opportunity to select their own class name. I thought I would share those with you because they are so, so wonderful. 1st Grade, Mrs. Charis Smith s and Mr. Jim Flynt s Kind Koalas 1st Grade, Mrs. Sara Tirado s and Mrs. Julie White s Rainbow Tigers 2nd Grade, Mr. Jaime and Mrs. Diana Negrete s F.I.S.H. (Followers In Search of Him) 2nd Grade, Mr. Clarence and Mrs. Connie Bell s Jesus Class 3rd and 4th Grade boys, Mr. Jerry and Mrs. Ginger Hamilton s Guys In Ac on 3rd and 4th Grade boys and girls, Mrs. Emily Nelson s and Mrs. Courtney Smith s Emerald Dragons 3rd and 4th Grade boys and girls, Mrs. Becky Humble s and Mr. Cleavy McKnight s Phoenix Class Hispanic Congrega on, Mr. Ruben Jarrin s and Mr. Mitch Cutsinger s Lion Sharks Thank you to all of these amazing adults who have commi ed to loving and teaching our children this year in Sunday school. Leigh Anne Bryant Family Ministry Associate to MainKids Celebra ng and naviga ng Mondays through Sundays from week one to week 936 toward authen c and las ng faith in Christ. Service of Hope & Remembrance On November 27 at 7:00 PM in Westmoreland Chapel, we will gather to offer prayers, seeking comfort for our sorrows sustained this year. If you have suffered loss or wish to remember a loved one who passed away this year, this service will provide a me and space for consola on. The service offers healing in the form of comfor ng music, an opportunity to, if desired, light a candle to memorialize the losses suffered, and finally, a short message to help us acknowledge our grief and find hope in God s presence and gracious love. Even if you did not sustain a loss this year, your presence is encouraged to a end ongoing suffering in your life or to provide care and comfort for others. Lessons & Carols WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 5 At 6:30 PM amid the warm glow of a candlelit procession in our Sanctuary, we will enjoy nine scripture readings, or lessons, that span the story of the fall of humanity, the promise of the Messiah, and the birth of Jesus. Interspersed will be carols sung by our South Main Chamber Choir, Agape, One Accord, and the congrega on. Oberammergau Passion Play Twenty-seven South Mainers will travel to see the Passion Play in Oberammergau, Germany in September, 2020. We are reserving spots early because this play is produced only once every ten years. We have space for more of our South Main family and friends! A er seeing the play, we will explore significant sites in historic Germany before returning home. There are packets available in the church office or email Be ye Carpenter (betcarpenter@ gmail.com) for more informa on. Services telecast Sundays at 11:00 AM: Comcast 17, TVMax 95, Phonoscope 75, AT&T U-verse 99, and in Kingwood on Sudden Link 99
