Also thank you for taking the time to read the articles in our newsletter. The officers work hard to get the info timely to Scott Duncan. He in turn puts together a good-looking newsletter for our Lodge. All standing WOTM activities will not change (bingo, steak shoot, etc.). Any suggestions for making the activities better or for new activities, please see me. I m always interested in trying new things. We are doing a Hangover Cinco De Mayo on May 19th. We get to celebrate twice! The WOTM will provide one of our famous dinners on June 16th. The menu will be posted closer to the date. I will work hard to advance our Chapter and Lodge. Also, I am proud to say that our past officers plan to continue their active support. But remember, the Chapter is ever evolving and ALWAYS needs helpers to step up. If you want to help but aren t asked speak up we love volunteers. Keep the Faith, Believe in Hope and Have Charity for All. Rowena Milnor Senior Regent
Heart Of The Community
As you know, we have had an election, we have a new board along with Ed Milner, our new Governor. Our Junior Governor, Larry, three new trustees, Roy, Roy & Dennis and the new Treasurer is Kent, along with our new prelate Richard. We have one thing consistent Don Jones is our Past Governor, I m sure he will guide us well with his experience. As you know, we are closer than ever before to moving into our new lodge, thanks to a special member making a loan to us so that we could construct the parking lot out back. We had a raffle for a boat trip to the Bahamas which helped the lodge a lot, I would like to thank everyone for that. We have had numerous fundraisers in the past year and a half, all of which was needed and I thank everyone who has participated. I would like to take the time now to thank the people who have stepped up above the call of duty. Mike Guidice, head of our Building Committee has been able to create miracles inside the building, building walls for the offices and bathrooms, getting the floor tiled in the bathrooms, and now he is preparing to build the new bar in our Social Quarters. Sharon, along with Mitch s & friends, have painted all the interior. Matt King has stepped up with some of his friends to give us a wonderful floor in the lodge. We thought we would have to paint the floor as in our old lodge, this was an unexpected surprise and it is going to make our new lodge something special. We still have a long way to go with sod for the back lot area, plants, as I have been told that we need 85 plants for the front and back along with numerous live oaks that must be planted. The fixtures for the restrooms are in the building, the new doors are installed on the outside of the building and we are waiting for the contractor to install the 4 doors on the inside. We are so close, but yet cannot see the light at the end of the tunnel, but I know with your help and continued donations we will reach that light at the end of the tunnel. A member of our lodge, our electrician, with new lighting and total rewiring we will not have to worry about blowing fuses anymore. We still have to insulate the attic and that has to be paid for. Everything is so close, as most of us in the lodge understands that has moved from one home to another that, in itself, is a major job especially when you lived going on 12 years in our old home. This in itself will take a tremendous amount of voluntarism to move us from one building to another, but I know we can do it. Your board has considered raising prices once we get into the new building, we assumed that would happen a year ago last March, I am letting you know that this has to happen and informing you, that we pay 7 ½ % sales tax on everything the lodge does. American Legion and VFW are exempt from sales tax, we are not! When I read the report once a month that this costs us $16/1800 a month in sales taxes we pay. On typical $2.50 drink that amounts to $.21 on each of our drinks. We need to think about this and raise across the board $.25 cents across the board on each of our drinks to make this profitable. Your new board will be taking this into consideration that we need to do this to stay profitable. The tough thing for all of us to understand that we having been pay rent from September from 2016 plus 2 mortgages until now. When we get into the new building we will eliminate the rent, but that is still a couple of months away. Palm Bay Moose Lodge needs everyones help in this, I know it s hard to face higher prices but it s a fact that it must happen. Volunteers are the biggest thing that we need. I see a few people doing the work of many. An old Governor that I had, at a different lodge, asked if each member would donate 2 hours each year that with 456 members no one would have to work very much. Remember and think about this when you have the shrimp poppers on Friday night and the onion rings and the seafood dinner or the pork chop dinner, fried fish dinner, and the many other dinners that are put on by man people, it is great to enjoy the dinner but why not step up and give the guys that have been doing it for years a break. We take advantage of the many wonderful meals that we have had without considering the work that goes behind it, preparing, serving and cleaning up afterwards (which by the way is the hardest part of the job). Please think about volunteering some of your time to help those that help you. Fraternally, Lee Singleton, Lodge 2311 Administrator Administrator s Message
