6 Southern Campaign American Revolution Pension Statements and Rosters Pension application of Timothy Sisk W6058 Ann f33va Transcribed by Will Graves 2/28/12 [Methodology: Spelling, punctuation and/or grammar have been corrected in some instances for ease of reading and to facilitate searches of the database. Where the meaning is not compromised by adhering to the spelling, punctuation or grammar, no change has been made. Corrections or additional notes have been inserted within brackets or footnotes. Blanks appearing in the transcripts reflect blanks in the original. A bracketed question mark indicates that the word or words preceding it represent(s) a guess by me. Only materials pertinent to the military service of the veteran and to contemporary events have been transcribed. Affidavits that provide additional information on these events are included and genealogical information is abstracted, while standard, 'boilerplate' affidavits and attestations related solely to the application, and later nineteenth and twentieth century research requests for information have been omitted. I use speech recognition software to make all my transcriptions. Such software misinterprets my southern accent with unfortunate regularity and my poor proofreading fails to catch all misinterpretations. Also, dates or numbers which the software treats as numerals rather than words are not corrected: for example, the software transcribes "the eighth of June one thousand eighty six" as "the 8th of June 1786." Please call errors or omissions to my attention.] State of Virginia Culpeper County SS On this 13th day of August 1832 personally appeared in open Court, before the Justices of the Court of Culpeper County Timothy Sisk a resident of the County of Culpeper State of Virginia aged seventy years who being first duly sworn according to law doth on his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the act of Congress passed June 7th 1832, That he entered the service of the United States under the following named officers and served as herein stated. That he was drafted in the militia service during the Revolutionary War for a three month tour of duty in the company commanded by Captain Francis Nalle from the County of Culpeper and marched to the Malvern Hills below Richmond Virginia; in the Regiment commanded by Colonel John Thornton of said County, and after the tour for which he was drafted had expired, was discharged and returned home, That he was again drafted in the service for three months tour of duty from the County of Culpeper Virginia in the company commanded by Captain Armistead White, in the said County, and was marched to Yorktown, and served during the siege of that place, That after the capitulation of the enemy [October 19, 1781] at that place, was marched with the prisoners to Winchester, where he received his discharge, having served upwards of three months this tour, And after his discharge returned home that he was born and raised in the County of Culpeper and has continued ever to reside there that he hereby relinquishes every claim whatever to a pension or annuity except the present, and declares that his name is not on the pension Roll of the Agency of any State. She signed her application with her mark [f p. 12: Certification by Francis T Lightfoot, clerk of the Culpeper County court that records in his office show a license issued April 21st 1787 for the marriage of Timothy Sisk and Anney Jenkins but that no return of the license was ever entered in the records in his office.] [Veteran was pensioned at the rate of $20 per annum commencing March 4th, 1831, for service as a private for 6 months in the Virginia militia.
