PRAYING OUR WAY TO SUCCESS AS WE LIVE FOR THE KINGDOM CAUSE It is God s desire to help us to be successful in life and to live a life of great purpose and meaning as we live for the Kingdom Cause

We all have one gift of life to make a great impact in this world for eternity Jesus Himself said, Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. (Matthew 6:19-21)

The things of this world are temporal Many people who the world have labelled as being successful have struggled in relationships and with substance abuse and in other areas of their life Though they might have had worldly fame and fortune, they have not enjoyed the abundant life that Jesus spoke of that comes from living for Him When we live for the Kingdom cause and allow Jesus to be Lord of every area of our life, we as believers can truly enjoy fullness of life

The Apostle John wrote, Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers. (3 John 2) God s desire is that we would enjoy every aspect of life and that we would enjoy the peace of heart and purpose that comes from whole heartedly living for Him and that we would enjoy rich and fulfilling relationships with others. God has much in store for every believer s life

However we have a very real adversary, the Devil, who will try and prevent us from experiencing the fullness of life that God has planned for us as Christians ESPECIALLY when we have a heart to live wholeheartedly for the Kingdom cause and to help see others come to Christ. Jesus Himself said, The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. (John 10:10)

Having a lifestyle of prayer is a great key to helping us to appropriate all that God has planned for our life and to enjoying the fullness of life that God has planned for our lives as believers. To embrace the fullness of life that God Has planned for us will involve; i) Overcoming trials and discouragement ii) Avoiding temptations and distractions iii) Overcoming our fears iv) Remaining strong when rejected by others v) Making right choices in life, and vi) Winning the battle for the mind

The bible makes it clear that if we desire to glorify God with our lives and to live wholeheartedly for Him we will experience rejection and persecution. We are also living in those perilous times that the Apostle Paul wrote about in 2 Timothy

The Apostle Paul wrote, Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution. (2 Timothy 3:12) Jesus Himself said, If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. (John 15:18-19)

Prayer helps us to remain strong in our faith in the times that we are now living in so that we can embrace all that God has planned for our life After the disciples fell asleep whilst praying in the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus said to Peter, What? Could you not watch with Me one hour? Watch and pray lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. (Matthew 26:40-41)

After again falling asleep in the Garden of Gethsemane instead of praying (Matthew 26:42-45) we see Peter a short while later because of fear denying having even know Jesus three times (Matthew 26:69-75) Prayer helps us to remain strong when under spiritual attack for our faith

The Apostle Paul, who emphasised the importance of praying without ceasing and who wrote around one third of the New Testament was able to say at the end of his time here on earth, I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing. (2 Timothy 4:7-8) PRAYER IS A GREAT KEY TO FULFILLING OUR GOD GIVEN DESTINY IN LIFE AND TO HELPING TO SUPPORT AND ENCOURAGE OTHER CHRISTIANS WHO ARE GOING THROUGH TRIALS IN LIFE

It is good to start by emphasising the fact that prayer is a two way communication with God. When we talk to God we need to ALSO listen to what He has to say back to us. The LORD said to the prophet Jeremiah Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. (Jeremiah 29:12) Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know. (Jeremiah 33:3)

In the book of Jeremiah we also read, For who has stood in the counsel of the LORD, And has perceived and heard His word? Who has marked His word and heard it? (Jeremiah 23:18) We need to learn when praying to God to be still and to listen for the voice of the Holy Spirit speaking to us to give us guidance and direction in life

Jesus Himself said, However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. (John 16:13)

God knows what is best for us at all times God knows what we have need of in life God is always able to make a way even where there seems no way. No situation is ever impossible for God In the book of Isaiah we read, This also comes from the LORD of hosts, Who is wonderful in counsel and excellent in guidance. (Isaiah 28:29)

Prayer is a key to fulfilling our God given destiny in life for many reasons Firstly, as Christians we are in a constant spiritual battle so we need to continually seek God for His wisdom and strength to be overcomers in our walk with the Lord. The Apostle Peter wrote, Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. (1 Peter 5:8)

Secondly, prayer helps to involve God in our plans and all that we do in life. This is the key to succeeding in life. God s ways are higher than our ways In the book of Isaiah we read, For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways, says the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts. (Isaiah 55:8-9) One God idea has the potential to transform our lives and to turn our circumstances around

Thirdly, life is full of choices that will ultimately determine our destiny in life. We continually need God s wisdom to make right choices in life The Devil will continually try and complicate our life by tempting us to make wrong choices in life. Prayer enables us to get wisdom from God to make good choices in life that are in line with His unfolding will for our life

We have continual access to God's counsel and advice through prayer In the book of James we read, If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. (James 1:5)

Fourthly, God loves us more than any other person ever could and knows what is best for us. We can therefore trust God with our plans and future. He will direct us down the right paths in life. In the book of Proverbs we read, Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths. (Proverbs 3:5-6)

Fifthly, cultivating a lifestyle of prayer and trust in the Lord helps us to maintain peace in our heart during the trials and storms of life that we all go through in life. When faced with unexpected challenges and difficulties in life, we need to learn to go instinctively to the Lord in prayer Maintaining peace in our heart is a great key to continually hearing from God at all times.

The Apostle Paul wrote, Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7)

Spending quality time in God s presence is a great key to maintaining our peace. We must refuse to get too busy so that we do not have time to commune with God in prayer If we do not have regular quiet times with the Lord, we are more likely to lose our peace and to be anxious and troubled about many things In Luke 10:38-42 Jesus emphasised to Martha the importance of spending quality time in His presence

Mary and Martha Worship and Serve (Luke 10:38-42) 38 Now it happened as they went that He entered a certain village; and a certain woman named Martha welcomed Him into her house. 39 And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus [a] feet and heard His word. 40 But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me. 41 And Jesus [b] answered and said to her, Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. 42 But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.

Sixthly, as we persevere in our prayer life we will consistently see the breakthroughs in our life that we need to fulfil our God given destiny and to enable us to live a life of great purpose and meaning, Jesus Himself said, Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. (Matthew 7:7-8)

Seventhly, given the lawless times that we are now living in and the greater complexities of life that we all now experience, more than ever before we need to develop a lifestyle of prayer to keep our life uncomplicated. GOD KNOWS HOW TO BEST WORK THINGS OUT IN OUR LIFE How more than ever before we need to seek the Lord for guidance in life continually and allow Him to direct our steps in life. In the book of Proverbs we read, Commit your works to the Lord, and your thoughts will be established. (Proverbs 16:3)

Eighthly, that with God nothing will be impossible. No situation is ever impossible for God. Prayer helps to involve God in our circumstances so that He can begin to move on our behalf to work things out In the book of Psalms we read, Trust in the Lord, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness. Delight yourself also in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass. (Psalm 37:3-5) AND

Finally, prayer is a great key to maintaining an intimate walk with the LORD and to never losing our first love for Jesus King David was a man after God s own heart. (Acts 13:22) In Psalm 63 he wrote, O GOD, Your are my God; Early will I seek You; My soul thirsts for you; My flesh longs for You in a dry and thirsty land where there is no water. So I have looked for You in the sanctuary, To see Your power and Your glory. Because Your lovingkindness is better than life, My lips shall praise You. (Psalm 63:1-3)

Having a lifestyle of prayer is therefore a great key to walking in victory as a believer This is why the Apostle Paul wrote, Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)

We have a God who hears and answers our prayers The Apostle John wrote, Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him. (1 John 5:14-15)

We have a God who is able to do the impossible in our life and who is able to turn our circumstances around Jesus Himself said, Have faith in God. For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, Be removed and be cast into the sea, and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says. Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them. (Mark 11:22-24)

I will now quickly share eight keys that can help us to pray our way to success 1) We must stop continually looking at and talking about our problems, but learn to immediately seek the Lord in prayer for HELP and GUIDANCE The more we focus on our problems the bigger they appear to be The Apostle Peter wrote, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you. (1 Peter 5:7)

2) We need to make time to pray on a regular basis to seek God's guidance and wisdom in life, so that we can continually make GOOD CHOICES that are in line with God's unfolding will and plan for our life GOD HAS A GREAT PLAN FOR OUR LIFE The Apostle Paul wrote, Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, (Ephesians 3:20)

Having a quiet place where we can be alone with the LORD helps us to hear from God when we are praying to Him Jesus Himself said, But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. (Matthew 6:6)

3) We need to pray without any KNOWN sin and offences in our heart These will hinder our prayer life and block answers to our prayers. God is more concerned about our relationships being right with others The Psalmist wrote, I cried to Him with my mouth, And He was extolled with my tongue. If I regard iniquity in my heart, The Lord will not hear. But certainly God has heard me; He has attended to the voice of my prayer. Blessed be God, Who has not turned away my prayer, Nor His mercy from me! (Psalm 66:17-20)

Jesus Himself said, And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses. (Mark 11:25)

4) We need to be persistent in our prayers until we see the answers. We must refuse to be moved by our circumstances and allow discouragement to stop us from persevering in our prayer life Jesus emphasised the importance of being persevering in our prayer life in His parable of the Persistent widow. In the gospel of Luke we read, Then He spoke a parable to them, that men always ought to pray and not lose heart, saying There was in a certain city a judge who did not fear God nor regard man. Now there was a widow in that city; and she came to him saying, Get justice for me from my adversary. (Luke 18:1-3)

And he would not for a while; but afterward he said within himself, Though I do not fear God not regard man, yet because this widow troubles me I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me Then the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge said, And shall God not avenge His own elect who cry out day and night to Him, though He bears long with them? I tell you that He will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth? (Luke 18:4-8)

5) We need to pray in FAITH believing already for the answered prayer AS WE PRAY, being certain of God's ability to answer our prayers. For with God nothing will be impossible. (Luke 1:37) In the book of Hebrews we read, Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. (Hebrews 11:1) But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. (Hebrews 11:6)

Again Jesus said, Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them. (Mark 11:22-24) Jesus clearly emphasised His ability and willingness to answer our prayers when He said, Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works that these he will do, because I go to My Father. And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I WILL DO IT. (John 14:12-14)

6) After praying we need to keep EXPECTING for the miracles and answers to our prayers AND to also allow God to answer our prayers His way. We must simple trust in God s faithfulness to answer our prayers Sometimes there is a timing to God s answer to our prayers (God s timing is perfect) We must allow God to be God. God does not always answer our prayers the way that we think He should, but God's ways are higher than our ways

7) We need to pray in the name of Jesus AND be specific in our prayers As Christians we have been given great authority as Christ's ambassadors here on earth. Jesus Himself said when He shared about the church s Great Commission, All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. (Matthew 28:18) For this reason praying in the name of Jesus is a great key to seeing our prayers being consistently answered.

Jesus Himself said, And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I WILL DO IT. (John 14:13-14) And in that day you will ask Me nothing. Most assuredly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in My name He will give you. Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full. (John 16:23-24)

Jesus also said, And these signs will follow those who believe: In My Name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover. (Mark 16:17-18) AS BELIEVERS WE HAVE BEEN GIVEN GREAT AUTHORITY IN THE NAME OF JESUS, AND

8) We need to be led and directed by the Holy Spirit in our prayers This is a great key to seeing our prayers being in line with God s will for our life and the Word of God God will often put on our heart people to pray for and things to pray about. It is as we pray in line with what God puts on our heart to pray about, that we see our prayers being effective and God answering our prayers

The Apostle Paul wrote, Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God. (Romans 8:26-27) Praying in tongues helps us to pray in line with God s perfect will for our life when we are facing situations where we do not know how or what to pray about

SO IN CONCLUSION PRAYER IS A GREAT KEY To remaining strong in our faith To making good choices in our life that are in line with God s will for our life To seeing miracles and breakthroughs in our life To enjoying peace in our heart at all times, and To seeing all that God has planned for our life coming to pass

Eight keys that can help us to have a powerful prayer life which enables us to be successful and victorious in life are: 1) We must stop continually looking at and talking about our problems, but learn to immediately seek the Lord in prayer for HELP and GUIDANCE 2) We need to make time to pray on a regular basis to seek God's guidance and wisdom in life to help us to make right choices in life

3) We need to pray without any KNOWN sin and offences in our heart. These will hinder our prayer life and block answers to prayer. God is more concerned about our relationships being right with others 4) We need to be persistent in our prayers until we see the answers. We must refuse to be moved by our circumstances and allow discouragement to stop us from persevering in our prayer life 5) We need to pray in FAITH believing already for the answered prayer AS WE PRAY, being certain of God's ability to answer our prayers

6) After praying we need to keep EXPECTING for the miracles and answers to our prayers AND to also allow God to answer our prayers His way and in His time, (God s timing is perfect) 7) We need to pray in the name of Jesus AND be specific in our prayers, AND 8) We need to be led and directed by the Holy Spirit in our prayers

Prayer has the power to transform our lives and to turn our circumstances around Prayer is the key to fulfilling God s destiny for our life Prayer is the key to being successful in life and to continually walking in victory as a believer How we need to make prayer a priority in our life

I will finish with the words of Jesus in relation to God s ability to answer our prayers and to do the miraculous in and through our lives Jesus said, Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works that these he will do, because I go to My Father. And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I WILL DO IT. (John 14:12-14) As Christians we are not called to live ordinary and mundane lives God has so much in store for each of our lives We all can make a great difference in this world for eternity
