ARK BAPTIST COLLEGE S t u d e n t H a n d b o o k Ark Youth Ministries considers it a privilege to serve our students for the purpose of discipling them, training them, and teaching them to reach people with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It is with that purpose in mind that we put forth the handbook for our students. This handbook has two purposes: to train our students in the practices and disciplines of the Christian faith, and to establish a guideline for behavior in our ministry. This handbook is in no way exhaustive; all behavior of the Christian should fall under the authority of God's Word, and it is with its authority we will strive to conduct ourselves. With the Bible in mind, we will judge all behavior by two principles: behavior that is "such as becometh the Gospel" - Philippians 1:27; and behavior that is above reproach. As Christians, we should strive to live our lives in a way that pleases our Savior, to live our lives in agreement with God's Word, and to live our lives for God's Glory. That is our goal at Ark Youth Ministries.

P e r s o n a l B e h a v i o r Personal Devotions All students at the Ark Baptist College are expected to spend time each day in God's Word and prayer. While this will not be listed as a requirement, nor will it have any disciplinary attachment, one cannot expect to grow in Christ without the proper time spent with God. Church Attendance All students are required to attend church services at Bible Baptist Church of St. Augustine, Florida. This includes all regularly scheduled services, as well as special services throughout the year such as revival, etc. Excused absences from church may be issued for sickness, or for out of town visits. Only one excused out of town visit per month is allowed. Christian Ministry/Visitation All students are required to be involved in Christian ministry and visitation while enrolled at Ark Baptist College. This may include, but not limited to: church choir, Sunday school service, Ark outreach programs, or Ark Juvenile Justice mentoring programs. Hygiene All students at Ark Baptist College are to maintain good personal hygiene. This includes bathing, washing hair and brushing teeth. Each student is also to observe the use of deodorant and/or anti-perspirant of the student's choice. Please keep in mind when using cologne and/or perfume that some individuals cannot handle strong smells. The principle of good personal hygiene also applies to clothing; please make sure clothes are kept clean and neat; present a good personal appearance. Men's appearance should be traditional and well-groomed. Men must be clean-shaven each morning, with only neatly trimmed mustaches and goatees allowed. No new mustaches and goatees may be grown during the semester. Sideburns are to be neat, not bushy; and shorter than the bottom of the ear. Men's hair is to be cut above the eyebrows, the ears, and above the collar when a dress shirt is worn. Men's hair is not to be changed to an unnatural color. Ladies appearance should also be traditional and well-groomed. Extreme styles of hair and makeup are not allowed. Piercings are to be limited to no more than two in each ear lobe. Language All student language is expected to be "above reproach." Cursing, gossiping, insults, grumbling, complaining, and language of inappropriate subject matter will not be allowed. This

includes conversation inside and outside the classroom and dormitories. Luke 6:45 says "of the abundance of his heart the mouth speaketh." If we have put the right things in our hearts, the right things will come from our mouths. Dress Code MEN Church Dress: Collared dress shirt, dress pants with a belt (nothing baggy or sloppy, such as cargo pants or pants with rips or tagged hems; no denim), dress shoes and socks. Denim pants will be allowed on Wednesdays. Classroom Dress: Collared dress shirt, dress or nice casual pants with a belt (nothing baggy or sloppy, such as cargo pants or pants with ripped or tagged hems), dress shoes or closed-toe casual shoes with socks. LADIES Church Dress: Dresses, suits, or skirts with an appropriate blouse. No frayed or ragged hemlines. Socks are not permitted. Dress shoes or dress sandals, sandals or shoes with a strap between the toes are allowed. No denim clothing, casual dresses or skirts should be worn for church. Classroom Dress: Dresses, suits, or skirts with an appropriate blouse. No frayed or ragged hemlines. Socks are not permitted. Dress shoes or dress sandals, sandals or shoes with a strap between the toes are allowed. Ladies General Guidelines: Be modest regarding exposure. Female students should check carefully the cut of their garments, including hemlines, slits, necklines, and cuts in the shoulders. Be modest regarding accentuation. Please avoid all tight-fitting clothing. Proper undergarments should be worn with each outfit. In an effort to communicate evidence of a pure life, honest appraisal should be made when the gaining of extra pounds makes an outfit immodest. Entertainment In our day and time, Christians must be very selective when it comes to their choice of personal entertainment. Entertainment includes movies, music, video games, websites, and any leisure activity with which we fill our time. Entertainment which contains sexual content, nudity, explicit and/or inappropriate language, excessive violence, or ungodly themes is not allowed at Ark Youth Ministries or on any ministry sponsored activity. Any music other than Christian is not allowed. All entertainment should fall under the Biblical principles of our

thoughts in Philippians 4:8 - Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Facilities God has blessed us here at Ark Youth Ministries with comfortable, nice offices, classrooms and dormitories. It has been left under our stewardship; therefore we must take care of them to the best of our ability, to the Glory of God. Assigned cleaning duties throughout the facility are everyone's responsibilities, and should be engaged in with a cheerful, willing heart. DORMITORIES Dormitories are to be maintained by the students. Daily, students should ensure that all clothing is picked up and either placed in the hamper, or put away in its appropriate place. Students' personal areas and the floor should be clutter free; beds should be made. Weekly, the floor should be vacuumed and furniture should be dusted. CLASSROOMS, BATHROOMS, COMMON ROOM AND KITCHEN VEHICLES Common areas are to be maintained by everyone. Each person should ensure that all garbage is picked up and placed in the garbage bin. All personal items should be kept in the dormitories except when in use. Dishes are to be picked up and washed after each meal. Any other dishes should be washed by the person using them. Nightly, all dishes should be done and put away before lights out. Counters should be wiped nightly; garbage should be taken out regularly as needed. Weekly, all common areas should be vacuumed and/or mopped by the students. Furniture should be dusted, as well as windows and doors washed. Ark vehicles are used for a number of activities throughout the week. All personal items, as well as all garbage should be removed following usage. Please remember to return the vehicles with as much gasoline, if not more, after each use. Any problems with the vehicle should immediately be reported to Bro. Matt or Bro. Terry.

Dating It is our desire at Ark Youth Ministries to provide well rounded opportunities for Godly social interaction. This includes dating and/or courtship. We must strive to honor and glorify God in all that we do; including dating. First, Ark Baptist College students are not to be off campus with any member of the opposite sex without a chaperone. This includes dates, shopping, or ministry activities. Students of the opposite sex are never to be in a dorm room, office or isolated space on campus alone. Students are not allowed to attend activities in homes with members of the opposite sex except in the case of a church activity or with special permission of the dean of students. Physical contact with any member of the opposite sex is not permitted at any time. College students may not date high school students without written permission of the high school student's parents, and the permission of the dean of students. Students are not allowed to date youth from our outreach programs and/or from Hastings Youth Academy or St. Johns Youth Academy without the permission of the dean of students. If a student wishes to formally pursue marriage while enrolled at Ark Baptist College, a meeting with the dean of students is necessary. Certain exceptions may be made at the discretion of the dean of students, or the director of Ark Baptist College. Curfew Curfew is observed at 10:00 PM Sunday evening through Thursday evening, and 11:00 PM on Friday evenings and Saturday evenings. Holiday/Non School Days curfew is 11:00 PM. Lights out is approximately 1 hour after curfew. All activities are to cease at lights out. Personal hygiene, laundry and studying are permitted after lights out, as long as it does not interfere with the rest of others. Off Campus/Out of Town Permissions Parental/Guardian permission is required for a dormitory student of Ark Baptist College to be off campus overnight or to travel out of town. Only one off campus/out of town permission is allowed monthly without extenuating circumstances. The parent/guardian of the student is to call the dean of students no later than 24 hours before the needed permission. Financial Matters Students are expected to maintain good financial standings with Ark Baptist College. This includes the payment of tuition, books, room and board, and/or any other moneys owed Ark Youth Ministries. Students unable to maintain their financial obligations must meet with Bro. Terry so arrangements may be made. Any student with an outstanding bill will not be given credit for the current semester until the bill has been satisfied or arrangements are made.

Worldly Matters While it is the purpose of Ark Baptist College and Ark Youth Ministries to minister to young people in need, we must maintain certain standards in the area of worldly matters. Current day trends such as substance abuse, alcoholism, gambling, homosexuality, or any other contemporary trend deemed sinful by God's Word will not be allowed under any circumstance. ACCOUNTIBILITY As with any rules, there must be a system of accountability. For dormitory students, it will be the following: Dormitory or Facility Violation: Hygiene Violation: Dress Code Violation: Entertainment/Conduct Violation: Church or Christian Service Violation: Dating Violation: 5 Demerits 5 Demerits 5-10 Demerits 5-10 Demerits 10 Demerits 10-40 Demerits 25 Demerit Accrual: 1 Saturday Campus & Parent Meeting 40 Demerit Accrual: 1 Week Campus & Parent Meeting 50 Demerit Accrual: 2 Week Campus & Parent Meeting *Any infractions beyond 50 demerits will result in a meeting with the president of Ark Baptist College, the dean of students, the student and his or her parents. At this time, the student may be expelled from Ark Baptist College, or other probationary limitations may be placed. Certain items can automatically qualify a student for expulsion, such as but not limited to: substance or alcohol abuse, physical violation with a member of the opposite sex (also any state of undress,) pornography, physical violence between students, or any other activity the dean of students and president of Ark Baptist College deem damaging to either the student or the ministry. Commuter students will be dealt with on a case by case basis. Such discipline may include their parents and/or pastor.
