This time is imperative and gives the leadership time to prepare their hearts for the meeting and time with the kids. Do not take this time lightly. God Bless America. - Amen Work to get the boys to memorize the KOZ Prayer and use it as a tool for kids who have little experience in praying or are afraid to pray. Outdoor Training Gear. Taking care of your gear is crucial to safe, fun and successful outdoor adventure. You need to know how to care for the tools you will use when you climb mountains, hunt, fish, four wheelers, trucks and more. Talk about: You need to know your gun, how it works, that the scope is on and adjusted. Your bow needs to be sighted in, string waxed, arrows safe and in good shape. A climber with a bad rope is a dead climber. Your fishing line needs to be good and the right size, the hooks you use should be sharp. Can you change the oil tire on your vehicles? Leader s first questions/discussion: Scripture Training LEADING INTO YOUR HEART TRAINING This Month's Scripture: Ephesians 6:13-17, Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Leader s first questions/discussion, Bible training: What do they mean by put on the full armor of God? Are they really talking about putting on a suit of armor? Is it a bulletproof vest and helmet? Is it a life Jacket or a safety rope? The full armor of God prepares you for when the hard things happen, because they will happen. Truth, the bible, your faith and the Spirit of God are all the tools you need to know how to use and take care of. Be thinking today, what tools do I use that help me know God is with me? FIELD NOTES: This is a great time to have the boys bring their own gear in. From bikes to boots this is good. Find someone who reloads and have a road trip or invite them over. Have a casting contest after you get the reels cleaned. Take a ride on the four wheelers or in the trucks after the oil change to get ice cream. Other places for good information and literature. All groups should use the foundational structure of KOZ each month. The starting, the prayer, sit spots etc. as a common element to every meeting. Everything from sledding to swimming, hiking to fly fishing. The key to going off the trail is to keep the structure in place. Get them outside move their bodies, adventure and exploration. If you need your truck, keep the oil changed. If you are going to need a knife, be sure and sharpen it. If you need your gun to shoot straight, be sure and clean it and set the sites or scope. In the same light, if you need the Lord (AND YOU DO) to live out your faith, put on the armor daily! So what are some things we need the Lord to help us with? (Let the boys answer) As we look at the armor of God listed in Ephesians 6, think about what each piece of armor does for us spiritually. A Belt of Truth keeps our spiritual pants up. How embarrassing is it to be caught in a lie? What do other s think about us when we lie? The Breast Plate protects a soldier s vital organs, the heart and lungs. The Breast Plate of Righteousness protects the life of our faith. We can talk about Jesus all we want to, but without righteousness, our spiritual life can be speared. The Shoes of the Gospel represent the message of Christ and it is the purpose of us going. Without it we have no message or reason to go and tell. Without the power of the gospel, we are like a warrior without shoes and can t walk and even run with confidence. The Shield of the Faith is our protection. If you believe, you can shield yourself from the enemy s attacks. Without that shield, you are vulnerable to losing the battle to the fiery attacks of the enemy. The Helmet of Salvation protects the brain, the other vital organ that can kill you if it is struck. Salvation is your protection from a head shot from the enemy. The helmet also protects your thinking planning. Your salvation is your protection and guide for true wisdom and knowledge. The Sword of the Spirit is the only offensive weapon. You should always pray and ask the Holy Spirit to fight for us and to guide us as we share the gospel and live out your faith. Any soldier would put all these on to prepare for battle. Every day we are to do battle for the Lord. Think through all these as you get dressed or as you pray each day so that you are ready every day. Don t neglect a single one! It may be exactly what you need that day! RM Train Map #2, Ephesians 6:13-17 God s Gear and You think about going into a life or death battle with gear we haven t touched in over a year We all have gear, often we have too much gear, but when was the last time you took a look at everything that goes into a successful hunting or fishing trip? Think about it with me for a minute; you have a truck or car to get to your favorite honey hole, maybe you have an ATV to make life easier once you re at your favorite spot, then you need your favorite weapon or rod along with ammo and tackle, couple that with all your favorite calls, best camo, and all your safety equipment and you ll soon find that you need a small Uhaul to haul all your gear to your favorite spot even before you can pull a trigger or set that first hook. But how many of you have ever set the hook on that first lunker of the season just to hear your line snap because it has dry rotted over the winter, maybe you just dropped that big buck and when you go to gut it out you realize that your favorite knife wouldn t cut through fog, or worse yet you pull out your muzzleloader the night before season only to find the barrel pitted and rusty because you never cleaned it at the end of last season. Well at one point or another we ve all been there but the great thing is that we can learn from our past mistakes and not have to go down those roads again. One way we do this is to use the off season to clean and prepare our gear for the next battle. Today our scripture was about armor and all the important pieces that God has given us for our daily battle as Christian men. So. Would you feel confident? Would you want to try and fix your armor in the midst of the battle? How you prepare in the down time will often dictate your success and give you the confidence you need when faced with life s battles. So use your down times in both your walk with God and your walks in His creation to prepare for the battles that are only a season away. You are an important part of God s plan, we need to make sure we are doing the things we know in our heart keep us strong in our walk and life with Jesus. REMIND THEM: God has made you as an amazing person. Individual, special and unique. If you have not heard that for a while, I want to tell you that. I care about you, you matter to me. Talk to me if you need to talk. EACH MONTH: Teach the boys: BE STRONG - Jeremiah 29:11, For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. He (Jesus) cares about you, you matter, your KOZ leaders care about you. THE SIT SPOT AND GOD SIT SPOT Purpose: Pass out a blank index card and pen. Tell them if they want you to pray for them or something going on to please write it on the card and you will pray for them this week. It is a private prayer between your leaders and them, they don't have to put their name on the card. If they don't have a prayer, tell them to just put their name on the cards. TO PONDER: Give the boys something to ponder, use the questions above, and ask them to go to a sit spot - let them stay while you prepare lunch (quietly without distracting the quiet moment) - (15-30 min.) SEND LEADERS TO SIT SPOTS! If a leader is not assigned a task have them also find a sit spot. It is good for the boys to see the adult leaders doing the same as they are asked to do. QUIET TIME IS ESSENTIAL. CALL BACK FOR LUNCH - While they are eating lunch LUNCH & KOZ LEADERSHIP TAG GUIDANCE WORK ON DOG TAGS Ask boys if they are working toward KOZ TAGS. Greenhorn, Coyote, LIT, HTL. This is a good time to teach this material. Print their cards and have them ready. Ask if any of the boys are new give them their KOZ Nation dog tag (the first one) GIVE A BOY HIS NAME IN KOZ We have found that giving boys a nickname is a huge tool for them. Giving a boy a New Name has been a game changer for many. A strong, fierce name is important. Jesus and His Father both gave new names. Ask prayerfully what name a boy should have. honor bestowed, even if funny. As you wait for the parents to arrive: Tell the boys you love them. That they are important. That if they have not prayed to ask Christ into their hearts to come talk to a KOZ HTL (ROMANS 10:9). If a kid wants to be baptized, have them talk to you about it - you can do it somewhere really cool! Perform a service project on site. Teach the boys to ALWAYS leave your area BETTER than it was when you got there. Parents arrive. Greet them and tell them how good their kid did. Tell the boys to invite a friend! Hand out literature or take home materials... A gallon plastic Zip lock bag with their name on it works great each month to collect their take home materials.
