From the last lesson you learned that believers are united with Christ through Spirit baptism, are declared righteous before God (justification), and gain a standing with God as a son/heir with all the rights and privileges that come with such (adoption). What other aspects of salvation follow genuine repentance and faith? 1. Believers are filled with the Spirit. How is this described in the New Testament? a. Galatians 5:16 b. Galatians 5:18 c. Ephesians 5:18 Spirit filling occurs throughout the believer s life, strengthening and enabling him to live like Christ. Being filled with the Spirit doesn t mean believers get more of the Spirit He wholly indwells every believer. Rather, Spiritfilling refers to being controlled by the Spirit, like when people are filled (controlled) with fear (Luke 5:26), rage (Luke 6:11), or sorrow (John 16:6). 2. How do believers walk by, how are they led and filled controlled by the Spirit? a. Acts 4:24 31 b. Romans 6:13 c. Galatians 5:16

What can you definitely point to that shows the Spirit controls or doesn t control your life? 5. By the Holy Spirit believers gradually grow more holy more like Christ and less sinful. This is called sanctification. a. Romans 8:29 b. 2 Corinthians 3:18 c. Hebrews 12:14 6. Why do believers need to be sanctified? a. Galatians 5:16 17 b. Colossians 3:5, 8 9 c. 1 Peter 1:14 7. Colossians 3:5 17 g. 1 Peter 1:14 16 Sanctification is the setting apart of the believer from sin unto God. Believers are sanctified by growing more like Christ and less like the world through the Spirit s help and personal discipline. 9. If Christ has saved you from sin s penalty and power, that will be seen in every aspect your life. Are you growing more like Christ and less like the world?
