COLLINGSWOOD PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH SERVICE FOR THE LORD S DAY April 14, 2013 3rd Sunday of Easter ASSEMBLE IN GOD S NAME Silent Prayer You take away the drab gray dress of our despair and clothe us with hope and joy. You fill our empty souls with the resurrection feast of peace and life. You are worthy, Healing God, and so we worship you. Prelude Welcome and Announcements We welcome you in the name of our Lord, Jesus Christ! Please sign the guest book in the narthex so we can send you a welcome packet. Gathering of Prayer Concerns and Joys Please raise your hand to share your joys or concerns to be included in the prayers of the people this day. Call to Worship Leader: Springtime changes are bursting forth around us! People: The earth awakens from winter with a display of color. Leader: Since by human sin came death so by human faithfulness came the resurrection from the dead. People: Thanks be to God, who give us the victory through Jesus Christ *Hymn - PH# 104 Christ is Risen! Shout Hosanna! *Prayer of Confession Leader: When we keep our faults and failures locked safely away, we have no need to confess. But God comes into our hearts when we least expect, so we can be filled with forgiveness, with hope, with peace. Please join me as we pray together, saying, All: God of empty tombs and emptier people: when we hesitate to speak of your hope, forgive us, and give us a voice. When we find it difficult to love one another, forgive us, and give us fresh compassion. When we want to stand with the high and mighty, forgive us, and seat us next to the poor and oppressed. When we stay locked behind our fears and doubts, forgive us, and send us out to share you grace. When we cannot believe your Word of new life, forgive us, and fill us with your joy. *Words of Assurance Leader: Christ comes into every shadowed corner of our lives with the light of Easter. Christ comes into the locked rooms of our faults and gifts us with grace and hope. All: Christ comes to fill us with peace, so we may proclaim the good news of mercy and forgiveness for all. Thanks be to God. Amen.

*Response #2026 STF Halle, Halle, Hallelujah (sing twice) Halle, Halle, Hallelujah Halle, Halle, Hallelujah Halle, Halle, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah! *Sharing of the Peace Leader: The peace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. People: And also with you. Sacrament of Baptism Statement on Baptism PROCLAIM GOD S WORD Presentation of the Candidate for Baptism Questions to and Parents and Congregation Apostles Creed (unison) All: Prayer I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, And in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen. Baptism

(Children in Pre-K-5th grade will leave for Sunday School and can be picked up in Calvin Hall following the service.) Welcome to God s Family! Please join in singing STF#2051 I Was There to Hear Your Borning Cry "I was there to hear your borning cry, I'll be there when you are old. I rejoiced the day you were baptized, to see your life unfold. I was there when you were but a child, with a faith to suit you well; In a blaze of light you wandered off to find where demons dwell." "When you heard the wonder of the Word I was there to cheer you on; You were raised to praise the living Lord, to whom you now belong. If you find someone to share your time and you join your hearts as one, I'll be there to make your verses rhyme from dusk 'till rising sun." In the middle ages of your life, not too old, no longer young, I'll be there to guide you through the night, complete what I've begun. When the evening gently closes in, and you shut your weary eyes, I'll be there as I have always been with just one more surprise." "I was there to hear your borning cry, I'll be there when you are old. I rejoiced the day you were baptized, to see your life unfold.

Anthem - organ & piano duet by Paul Young & Will Powell Epistle Lesson: Acts 9:1-20 (pg.1000) Psalm 30 (responsive) Leader: I will extol you, O Lord, for you have drawn me up, and did not let my foes rejoice over me. People: O Lord my God, I cried to you for help, and you have healed me. Leader: O Lord, you brought up my soul from Sheol, restored me to life from among those gone down to the Pit. * People: Sing praises to the Lord, O you his faithful ones, and give thanks to his holy name. Leader: For his anger is but for a moment; his favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may linger for the night, but joy comes with the morning. People: As for me, I said in my prosperity, I shall never be moved. Leader: By your favor, O Lord, you had established me as a strong mountain; you hid your face; I was dismayed. People: To you, O Lord, I cried, and to the Lord I made supplication: Leader: What profit is there in my death, if I go down to the Pit? Will the dust praise you? Will it tell of your faithfulness? People: Hear, O Lord, and be gracious to me! O Lord, be my helper! Leader: You have turned my mourning into dancing; you have taken off my sackcloth and clothed me with joy, People: so that my soul * may praise you and not be silent. O Lord my God, I will give thanks to you for ever. *Hymn - PH#114 Come ye Faithful Raise the Strain
