I AM MAKING ALL THINGS NEW. I AM THE ALPHA AND THE OMEGA, N THE BEGINNING AND THE END. REVELATIO The Riverside Church in the City of New York 21:5 6 NOVEMBER 4, 2018 ALL SAINTS DAY TWENTY-FOURTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST

Welcome to The Riverside Church Interdenominational Interracial International Open Affirming Welcoming Worship is at the center of the life of The Riverside Church. As you prepare yourself for Worship, we invite you to reflect quietly on these words: Therefore since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight and the sin that clings so closely, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us. Hebrews 12:1 The image of a tree on the front cover is from Tree of Life * Or L Simcha Congregation in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and is featured as a symbol of our solidarity with their community on All Saints Sunday. THE LITURGICAL YEAR The Riverside Church follows the liturgical calendar to mark the seasons of our life together. We are currently in the Season after Pentecost, also known as Ordinary Time. It is signified by the green paraments and clergy stoles that represent new life and growth. Ordinary Time is observed from Pentecost until the beginning of Advent. Healing Prayer, typically offered the first Sunday of every month immediately following Worship, is available today. Two of Riverside s ministers will be at the front of the Nave to pray for anyone who desires it. IF THIS IS YOUR FIRST VISIT: Complete a Welcome Card and place it in the offering plate as it passes. Join us for Coffee Hour in South hall directly after Worship. As you leave the Nave, take a right and follow the hallway past Christ Chapel. Signs and greeters are available to provide direction. Breakfast and lunch for purchase will be in South Hall. A free church tour is offered each Sunday after Worship. Meet in the 1st balcony, no reservation necessary. Tours also take place Wednesday-Saturday, 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., as church schedule permits, leaving from the Welcome Center / Gift Shop. Reservations recommended. Visit trcnyc.org/visit. Assistive hearing devices and large print bulletins are available upon request from an usher.

OFFERTORY ANTHEM And I Saw a New Heaven Edgar Bainton And I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away and there was no more sea. And I, John, saw the holy city, Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a great voice out of heaven, saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with all and God will dwell with them and they shall be her people, and God alone shall be with them and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain for the former things are passed away. SENDING We are sent out into the world to love God and our neighbors BENEDICTION Rev. Butler RECESSIONAL HYMN O God of Every Nation O God of every nation, of every race and land, Redeem the whole creation with Your almighty hand; Where hate and fear divide us and bitter threats are hurled, In love and mercy guide us and heal our strife-torn world. From search for wealth and power and scorn of truth and right, From trust in bombs that shower destruction through the night, From pride of race and station and blindness to Your way, Deliver every nation, Eternal God, we pray. Lord, strengthen those who labor that all may find release From fear of rattling saber, from dread of war s increase; When hope and courage falter, Your still small voice be heard; With faith that none can alter, Your servants undergird. Keep bright in us the vision of days when war shall cease, When hatred and division give way to love and peace, Til dawns the morning glorious when peace on earth shall reign And You shall rule victorious o er all the world s domain. Mark 12 says that the most important commandments are to love God with all our heart, mind, soul, and strength and to love our neighbors as ourselves. Finish the drawing to make a picture of you, and then draw or write ways you can love God with each part of you. For example, by your head, you can draw or write ways to love God with you mind, by your arms you can write ways to love God with your strength, etc.

What did Ruth say to her mother-in-law, Naomi, when Naomi told her to go back home? " "OD TNO PSERS EM! OT LVAEE OUY!, ; WRHEE OYU OG, I LWLI OG;, HREWE OUY VELI, ; I LLIW ELVI; UYRO POLPEE LWIL EB YM PLEOPE. " DAN UYRO OGD YM DGO."

Psalm 146 shows us the kind of God we have. God "always does what God says - God defends the wronged, feeds the hungry, frees prisoners, gives sight to the blind, and lifts up those who fall down. God protects strangers and takes the side of orphans and widows" (The Message). Draw what you think this looks like.

Mark 12:28-34
