It s a privilege to worship with you today. Please worship with us again very soon. Worship Information This service folder is your guide for today s worship. Much of our service is responsive between the pastor and the congregation. The pastor will lead the sections marked (M). The congregation is invited to join on the sections marked (C). Children are always welcome to our worship services and are encouraged to participate as they are able. If a child needs a break from the worship service, a nursery is available in the back of our sanctuary. Restrooms are in the back of our church. They are assessible through the hallway along the north side of our building, or through the door to the right of our altar area. OPENING HYMN Great God, What Do I See and Hear? 3

OPENING RITE Based on Psalm 90 M: In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. C: Amen. M: Lord, you have been our dwelling place C: throughout all generations. M: Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the whole world, C: from everlasting to everlasting you are God. M: We are consumed by your anger and terrified by your indignation. C: You have set our iniquities before you, our secret sins in the light of your presence. M: Teach us to number our days, C: that we may gain a heart of wisdom. M: Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, C: that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days. M: Make us glad for as many days as you have afflicted us, C: for as many years as we have seen trouble. M: May your deeds be shown to your servants, C: your splendor to their children. M: May the favor of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us. C: Yes, establish the work of our hands. M: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you. C: And also with you. 4

CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION M: Beloved in the Lord: let us draw near Amados en el Señor: acerquémonos with a true heart and confess our sins con corazón sincere y confesemos nuestros to God our Father, asking him in the pecados a Dios nuestro Padre, pidiéndole name of our Lord Jesus Christ en el nombre de Nuestro Señor Jesucristo to grant us forgiveness. que nos concede el perdón. C: I confess to almighty God and Yo confieso ante Dios todopoderoso to you, my brothers and sisters, y ante ustedes, hermanos, that I have greatly sinned, que he pecado mucho in my thoughts, words, and actions de pensamiento, palabra y obra through my fault, por mi culpa through my own fault, por mi propia culpa through my own most grievous fault. por mi propia gran culpa Therefore, I ask God to have mercy Por eso ruego a Dios que tenga on me; forgive me all my sins; piedad de mi, perdone todos mis and bring me to eternal life. pecados y me lleve a la vida eterna. M: God, our heavenly Father, has been Dios todopoderosos, nuestro Padre merciful to us and has given his only celestial, ha tenido Misericordia de Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our nosotros y nos ha dado a su único Hijo sins. Therefore, as a called servant of para morir por nosotros. Por tanto como Christ and by his authority, I forgive you pastor llamado y ordenado por su iglesia, all your sins in the name of the Father te perdono todos tus pecados en el nombre and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. del Padre y del Hijo y del Espíritu Santo. C: Amen. Amén. LORD, HAVE MERCY M: In peace, let us pray to the Lord. C: Lord, have mercy. M: For the peace that comes from above and for our salvation, let us pray to the Lord. C: Lord, have mercy. 5

M: For peace throughout the world, for the wellbeing of the church of God, and for the unity of all, let us pray to the Lord. C: Lord, have mercy. M: For this family of faith and for all who here offer their worship and praise, let us pray to the Lord. C: Lord, have mercy. M: Help, save, comfort, and defend us, merciful Lord. C: Amen. GLORY BE TO GOD 6

PRAYER OF THE DAY M: Lord God Almighty, so rule and govern our hearts and minds by your Holy Spirit that we may always look forward to the end of this present evil age and to the day of your righteous judgment. Keep us steadfast in true and living faith and present us at last holy and blameless before you; through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. C: Amen. FIRST LESSON Malachi 4:1,2a Surely the day is coming; it will burn like a furnace. All the arrogant and every evildoer will be stubble, and the day that is coming will set them on fire, says the Lord Almighty. Not a root or a branch will be left to them. 2 But for you who revere my name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its rays. And you will go out and frolic like well-fed calves. 7

SECOND LESSON Hebrews 9:24-28 24 For Christ did not enter a sanctuary made with human hands that was only a copy of the true one; he entered heaven itself, now to appear for us in God s presence. 25 Nor did he enter heaven to offer himself again and again, the way the high priest enters the Most Holy Place every year with blood that is not his own. 26 Otherwise Christ would have had to suffer many times since the creation of the world. But he has appearedonce for all at the culmination of the ages to do away with sin by the sacrifice of himself. 27 Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, 28 so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him. VERSE OF THE DAY Matthew 24:42 Alleluia. Watch, therefore, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming. Alleluia. GOSPEL John 5:19-24 19 Jesus gave them this answer: Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does. 20 For the Father loves the Son and shows him all he does. Yes, and he will show him even greater works than these, so that you will be amazed. 21 For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son gives life to whom he is pleased to give it. 22 Moreover, the Father judges no one, but has entrusted all judgment to the Son, 23 that all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father. Whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father, who sent him. 24 Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life. M: This is the Gospel of our Lord. C: Praise be to you, O Christ! 8

HYMN OF THE DAY My Hope Is Built on Nothing Less SERMON You Have Passed Over from Death to Life John 5:24 Tú has pasado de la muerte a la vida Juan 5:24 9

APOSTLE S CREED I believe in God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. OFFERING The members of Cristo Rey work together to support the work of the Lord in their community and around the world. Visitors should not feel obligated to participate. PRAYER OF THE CHURCH The pastor leads the congregation in the prayer of the church. 10

LORD S PRAYER Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen. CLOSING PRAYER M: Almighty and merciful God, we have again worshiped in your presence and received both forgiveness for our many sins and the assurance of your love in Jesus Christ. We thank you for this undeserved grace and ask you to keep us in faith until we inherit eternal salvation; through Jesus Christ, our Lord. C: Amen. BLESSING M: The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you. The Lord look on you with favor and give you peace. C: Amen. 11
