C: And also with you. P: Brothers & sisters, Scripture says that All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, (Romans 6:23) It also reminds us that The wages of sin is death. (Romans 3:23) In short, sin is a big deal. Unfortunately, we cannot hide our sin. As Scripture teaches, Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account. (Hebrews 4:13) Therefore, let us confess our sins to him and plead for his mercy. C: Have mercy on me, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion, blot out my transgressions. Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight. Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me. Cleanse me. Hide your face from my sins and blot out all my iniquity. (Psalm 51) 1 1 John 1:9 says, If we confess our sins, God is faithful and just and will forgive us all our sins. So the Pastor assures our believing hearts of God s promise forgiveness of sins. 4
P: Brothers & sisters, Scripture says, If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just; he will forgive us all of our sins. (1 John 1:9) This is because: Jesus was delivered over to death for our sins and he was raised to life for our justification. (Romans 4:25) God did this because He so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son that whoever believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16) Go, then, in the peace of God's forgiveness. C: Alleluia! P: In the peace of forgiveness, let us praise the Lord. The Lesson Isaiah 54:4-10 4 Do not be afraid; you will not be put to shame. Do not fear disgrace; you will not be humiliated. The Gospel John 15:9-17 (please stand) 9 As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. The Message The Family That Stays Together... 1 John 4:16b-21 God is love. We Confess Our Faith in God The Apostles Creed 2 (please stand) (be seated) I believe in God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
