~ CONSTITUTION.~ ~I 1' ARTICLE I. Name. Ths organzaton shall be known as the NA'rURAL HISTORY SocETY OF THE UNIVERsTY OF ILLINOIS. ARTICLE II. Object. The object of ths socety shall be the promoton of hgh scholarshp n Natural Scence studes, by means of careful nvestgaton and accurate observaton o:l' nature and the crtcal examnaton of current lterature. ARTICLE III. Membershp. SEC. 1.-Any person nterested n the study of Natural Scence may become a member upon beng elected by the socety and sgnng the consttuton.
2 SEC. 2.-These members shall consst of two classes, actve and afflated or honorary. SEC. 3-ActVe Members.-The actve members of ths socety shall consst of local members actvely engaged n scentfc study. Votng powers shall be vested only n actve members. SEC, 4-Afflated or Honorary Members. Any persons who, though nterested n the object and work of the socety, cannot regularly attend the meetngs may become afflated members. Ther names shall be placed on a separate lst from the actve members, and they shall not be requred to respond to roll call, although they may have all the prvleges of the actve members except the power to vote. SEC. 4.-Actve members upon leavng the communty or upon ther own request shall become afflated members. ARTICLE IV. Offcers. The offcers of ths socety shall be a Presdent, Vce-Presdent, and Secretary, who shall be chosen from among the actve members of the socety. ARTICLE V. Dutes of Offcers. SEC. 1.- The offcers of ths socety shall perform the dutes usually devolvng on such offcers, and n addton thereto, shall togeth. er consttute an executve commttee, whose I. I I' \. ~: I.., ~. :1'. ~ 3 duty t shall be to determne upon and announce the tmes and places of holdng meetngs, to arrange programs for such meetngs. and to transact such busness of the socety as may be assgned to them or that s not specally provded for. SEC. 2.-It shall be the further duty of the Presdent to announce at each meetng the program for the next meetng. ARTICLE VI. Meetngs. There shall be two (2) regular meetngs n each term and specal meetngs may be called by the executve commttee or by the presdent, on request of fve actve members. ARTICLE VII. Program. The programs of regular meetngs shall be made up of artclqs treatng of orgnal nvestgatons, crtques and revews of recent lterature and personal observatons by members. ARTICLE VIII. Qtwrwn. Fve actve members shall consttute a quorum for the transacton of busness. ARTICLE IX. Amendments. Ths consttuton and the several By-Laws may be amended by a two-thrds vote of the

On the adopton of ths Consttuton the persons whose sgnatures are affxed to the Consttuton now n force [Oct. 1, '9?] shall be members of ths socety wthout sgnng ths consttuton. ARTICLE XI. Ths Consttuton shall go nto effect mmedately upon ts adopton. ---3} BY-LAWS. ~ ARTICLE I. The By-Laws may be temporarly suspended by a two-thrds (%) vote of the actve members present. ARTICLE II. The socety shall hold ts regular meetngs on Saturday evenng at such a tme and placp as the executve commttee may determme. ARTICLE III. ARTICLE v. Any actve member absentng hmself from three consecutve meetngs shall become an afflated member wth t.he prvlege of renstatement as an actve member upon applcaton to the executve commttee. ARTICLE VI. The offcers of ths socety shall be elected at the frst regular meetng n each school year. The votng shall be by ballot and a majorty of all the votes cast shall be necessary to a choce. ARTICLE VII Observatons made by the members shall be presented to the secretary at the close of the meetng, recorded on the regulaton note slp (2x61 nches)- These notes should bear a headng and date. ARTICLE VIII. The Secretary shall keep a properly classfed fle of notes thus presented. ARTICLE IV. Persons may become members of ths soc-
