In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, one God. Amen.

Begin with the Lord s prayer Our Lord and Savior, our King and God, we thank you for gathering us here to stand before you to call on your Holy Name. Heavenly Father, teach us to trust You in everything we do. Our God open our eyes, ears, hearts and minds that we may hear Your Word and transform (Change) our lives. Bless all the children and keep them safe. Hear us when we humbly and thankfully pray to you.

Our Father, who art in heaven Hallowed be thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done On earth as it is in heaven Give us this day our daily bread And forgive us our trespasses As we forgive those who trespass against us And lead us not into temptation But deliver us from the evil one For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the Glory. Forever, Amen.

O our Lady, as St. Gabriel greeted you, Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you. True Virgin in conscience as well as body, blessed are you among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb. Holy Mary, the God-bearer, pray that your beloved Son, Jesus Christ, may forgive us our sins. Amen.

Tabernacle and 12 spies May 26, 2013

Memory Verse If the LORD delights in us, then He will bring us into this land and give it to us. (NUMBERS 14:8) References Numbers

God replaced the two stone tablets that Moses broke.

God told Moses to build a tabernacle, which was a tent for the Lord. God gave him a pattern showing exactly how it should be built.

Ask: Why do we live in houses or apartments? (Shelter from weather, dangers) Does God need a house to keep Him warm and dry, and to protect Him from wild animals? Of Course not! Why did God tell the people to build a house for Him then? So that God will live there among His people and meet with them when they came to pray and worship Him.

The Lord commanded that all people bring offerings of things to be used in making the tabernacle. They were happy God was going to live in the middle of their camp.

So they brought so many gifts of silver, gold and jewels that Moses told them not to bring anymore.

Moses carefully told the people the details of God s plan. Soon work started.

Mothers made curtains from fine linen and from goats hair.

Soon the tabernacle was completed. Inside the tent were two rooms. The larger room was the Holy Place and the smaller one was the Holy of Holies.

The two rooms were separated by a thick curtain. Only one thing was placed in the Holy of Holies The Ark of the Covenant.

It was a chest made of wood, covered with Gold and carried by poles. Moses placed inside the Ark the stone tablets on which God had written the Ten Commandments, just as God had told him to do.

God had chosen Aaron (Moses s brother) to be the high priest of Israel, and his sons were to help him. Moses dressed Aaron a beautiful robe.

At last everything was ready. God was pleased that the people had built the tabernacle exactly as he commanded. His cloud of glory filled the tent with brilliant light.

The Israelites had almost reached the Promised land which is Canaan.

As they neared Canaan, Moses chose 12 men as spies, one from each tribe to see and bring back report.

All the 12 spies agreed the land was beautiful. After 40 days, they returned to the camp with some fruits they picked. Two men had to carry one big cluster of grapes on a pole between them.

When they arrived, everyone gathered around to hear their report to Moses. They said the land is beautiful but the people living in Canaan were big and strong.

So ten of the spies said, we can t attack those people; they are stronger than we are. They went through the camp spreading bad report. They forgot the great things God had done to free them.

The people were afraid and started to complain. They cried and felt sorry for themselves. They said we wish we had died in Egypt.

The remaining 2 spies namely Joshua and Caleb, who trusted God, said to the people. Don t be afraid. God has promised us this land. If we obey, he will lead us into the land. Don t rebel against the Lord.

But the people would not listen. They even talked about stoning Joshua and Caleb as well as Moses and Aaron. They said we should choose a new leader and go back.

God had heard it all. He was angry with His people. Then God told Moses he would immediately kill all of them.

But Moses prayed for the people, God showed mercy to them and did not kill them.

Their sin deserved to be punished. God punished the 10 spies who had caused the people to rebel.

Then he told Moses that he would do just what the people had wished for. All the adult Israelites, except for the two faithful spies, Joshua and Caleb, would die in the desert.

Instead of the promised land, they would wander in the desert for 40 years until all the adults died. Then God would lead their children to the promised land.

When Moses told the people what God had said, they cried out, Oh, no! We don t want to wander around in the wilderness for 40 years. We will go ahead and fight the Canaanites now. But it was too late. They had disobeyed God and missed the opportunity he had given them.

Moses warned them the Lord would not be with them if they went to fight. But they still were not willing to obey God. The next morning they went up toward the hill country to fight the Canaanites. The Canaanite armies attacked them and chased them back. Finally, they admitted they would never get to see Canaan.

Don t Complain Be careful not to complain all the time to God and your parents. If this becomes a habit, it will lead you to become bitter, fearful and angry. If you are angry, you cannot do much. It will stop you from doing even the simple things. Never hold a grudge. Trust in God and ask Him to bless you and direct you when faced with a problem.

Conclusion There is punishment for a sin. The Israelites lost the joy of going to the promised land because they had not trusted and obeyed God. We must always trust our God and obey His commandments.

Movie Clip Show a short movie clip about the story, if available.

CIRCLE THE CORRECT WORDS: 1. "Then they came to the Valley of Eshcol, and there cut down a branch with one cluster of (GRAPES, PEAS); they carried it between the two of them on a pole. 2. "And they returned from spying out the land after (FOUR, FORTY) days. 3. Joshua and Caleb told Moses, "We went to the land where you sent us. It truly flows with milk and honey, and this is its (FRUIT, VEGETABLES). Nevertheless the people who dwell in the land are (STRONG, WEAK); the cities are fortified and very (SMALL, LARGE).

Number the following sentences in order 1-7 as they happened in the lesson. They returned and 10 of the spies said they should not go into the land because the people were too strong. Caleb and Joshua said, The LORD is with us. Let us go at once and take over the land. 12 leaders, 1 from each tribe, were sent out and told to bring back fruits of the land and a report. God told Moses to send out spies into Canaan. The people tried to go into the land anyway, but were kept back by the Canaanites. The children of Israel listened to the bad report and wanted to stone Caleb and Joshua and go back to Egypt. God would not let Israel go into Canaan for 40 years. Only those under age 20 would ever see the Promised Land. (Except for Caleb and Joshua). Moses pleaded with God for the people.

Next Week We will learn about crossing to the promised land.

1. Read the Holy Bible daily preferably when we get up in the morning. 5 minutes to start. 2. Partake Holy Communion regularly. 3. Remember God throughout the day. We can repeat short prayer such as Lord Jesus Christ have mercy on me.

For there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12)

And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. John 8:32

Any question? Close with prayer.
