Historical Note The files comprising the Shorefront Legacy Center Research Files were complied by the Center from various sources. The materials deal with the African American experience in Evanston, Illinois and its surrounding suburbs including Pembroke, Illinois; Lake Forest, Illinois; and Glencoe, Illinois. This collection is arranged into eight series: The History of Pembroke, Lake Forest African American Residents, Glencoe African American Residents, Evanston Barber and Beauty Shops, Evanston African American Churches, Illinois African American History, General African American History, and African American Scholarship Programs.
