WELCOME & ANNOUNCEMENTS

CALL TO WORSHIP L: With what shall I come before the Lord? C: Burnt offerings? Young calves? L: With what will the Lord be pleased? C: Thousands of rams? Rivers of oil? L: How about my firstborn child? C: The fruit of the body for the sins of the soul? L: No. The Lord requires only this: C: Do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with God.

IWELCA THANKOFFERING As we make our Thankoffering today, we share in a tradition that goes back to the 1800 s or even earlier. When Women of the ELCA formed 30 year ago, we committed to continue this tradition of giving in gratitude for blessings. Each year, in thousands of congregation, Thankofferings are given to support the life changing ministries of Women of the ELCA.

Accept these gifts and this prayer that nurtured by your Word, filled with your spirit and fed at your table, we may share with gladness all that you have shared with us until all creation is satisfied. Amen.

CONFESSION AND FORGIVENESS L: For the sake of justice and kindness, we confess our sins before God and one another. Pause for silence and reflection. L: Merciful God, C: Too often we come before you with our pious actions and our empty words. We fail to live with kindness, justice, and humility. We turn on our neighbors and build up for ourselves. Forgive all that we have done and have failed to do and transform us into people you are proud to call your own.

L: The abundant grace of our God does transform lives from the inside out. Receive today the entire forgiveness of all your sins. Be transformed in your bodies, souls, and minds. Be molded into God s renewed creatures, for the sake of Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

KYRIE (ELW Page 184) Kyrie eleison, on our world and on our way. Kyrie eleison, ev ry day.

For peace in the world, for the health of the church, for the unity of all; for this holy house, for all who worship and praise, let us pray to the Lord, let us pray to the Lord.

Kyrie eleison, on our world and on our way. Kyrie eleison, ev ry day.

That we may live out your impassioned response to the hungry and the poor; that we may live out truth and justice and grace, let us pray to the Lord, let us pray to the Lord.

Kyrie eleison, on our world and on our way. Kyrie eleison, ev ry day.

For peace in our hearts for peace in our homes, for friends and family; for life and for love, for our work and our play, let us pray to the Lord, let us pray to the Lord.

Kyrie eleison, on our world and on our way. Kyrie eleison, ev ry day.

For your spirit to guide; that you center our lives, in the water and the Word; that you nourish our souls, with your body and blood, let us pray to the Lord, let us pray to the Lord.

Kyrie eleison, on our world and on our way. Kyrie eleison, ev ry day.

PRAYER OF THE DAY P: O God, C: You come to call not the righteous, but sinners. Count us among your redeemed people, that our lives might proclaim your grace in all we say and do. In the name of Jesus. Amen.

READING MICAH 1:3-5; 5:2-5; 6:6-8 For lo, the Lord is coming out of his place, and will come down and tread upon the high places of the earth. Then the mountains will melt under him and the valleys will burst open, like wax near the fire, like waters poured down a steep place. All this is for the transgression of Jacob and for the sins of the house of Israel. What is the transgression of Jacob? Is it not Samaria? And what is the high place of Judah? Is it not Jerusalem?

But you, O Bethlehem of Ephrathah, who are one of the little clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is to rule in Israel, whose origin is from of old, from ancient days. Therefore he shall give them up until the time when she who is in labor has brought forth; then the rest of his kindred shall return to the people of Israel. And he shall stand and feed his flock in the strength of the Lord, in the majesty of the name of the Lord his God.

And they shall live secure, for now he shall be great to the ends of the earth; and he shall be the one of peace. If the Assyrians come into our land and tread upon our soil,we will raise against them seven shepherds and eight installed as rulers. With what shall I come before the Lord, and bow myself before God on high?shall I come before him with burntofferings, with calves a year old?

Will the Lord be pleased with thousands of rams, with tens of thousands of rivers of oil? Shall I give my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul? He has told you, O mortal, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God? L: THE WORD OF THE LORD. C: THANKS BE TO GOD.

Sermon Rev. Patricia Shaw

Once In Royal David s City ELW No. 269 Once in royal David s city Stood a lowly cattle shed Where a mother laid her baby In a manger for his bed. Mary was that mother mild, Jesus Christ her little Child.

He came down to earth from heaven Who is God and Lord of all, And his shelter was a stable, And his cradle was a stall. With the poor and mean and lowly Lived on earth our Savior holy.

And our eyes at last shall see him, Through his own redeeming love; For that child so dear and gentle Is our Lord in heav n above; And he leads his children on to the place where he is gone.

Not in that poor lowly stable, with the oxen standing by, We shall see him; but in heaven, set at God s right hand on high; There his children gather round, bright like stars, with glory crowned.

APOSTLE S CREED I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen

SHARING THE PEACE P: The Peace of the Lord be with you all. C: And also with you.

Just a Closer Walk Traditional American Folk Song

OFFERING PRAYER P: O Lord, C: What, indeed, do you desire from us? If we were required to make a sacrifice equal to all we have been given, then surely it would be impossible for us. And yet, God asks only our humble obedience in service to a world beloved by its creator. Grant us hearts filled with this kindness as we bring these gifts before you for the sake of your son. Amen.

THE GREAT THANKSGIVING P: The Lord be with you. C: And also with you. P: Lift up your hearts. C: We lift them to the Lord. P: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. C: It is right to give our thanks and praise. P: It is indeed right, our duty we praise your name and join their unending hymn:

Holy, Holy, Holy ELW page 190 Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of pow r and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory, full of your glory.

Hosanna, hosanna, hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna, hosanna, hosanna in the highest.

Holy Communion is open to all who confess Jesus as Lord and believe that Jesus is present in the Bread and Wine. If you desire gluten-free wafers, let the pastor know at the time of distribution. Glasses of white grape juice are available in each tray for those who do not wish to receive wine. WORDS OF INSTITUTION

THE LORD S PRAYER OUR FATHER, WHO ART IN HEAVEN, HALLOWED BE THY NAME, THY KINGDOM COME, THY WILL BE DONE, ON EARTH AS IT IS IN HEAVEN. GIVE US THIS DAY OUR DAILY BREAD; AND FORGIVE US OUR TRESPASSES, AS WE FORGIVE THOSE WHO TRESPASS AGAINST US; AND LEAD US NOT INTO TEMPTATION, BUT DELIVER US FROM EVIL. FOR THINE IS THE KINGDOM, AND THE POWER, AND THE GLORY, FOREVER AND EVER. AMEN.

INVITATION TO COMMUNION P: Rejoice! The Lord does not call the righteous, but sinners to this holy meal. We are all welcome no one will be turned away for anything they have failed to do or be or understand. Let us come now to be fed on the unfailing promise of our God s everlasting mercy.

Lamb of God ELW page 191 Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world; have mercy on us.

Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world; have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world; grant us peace, grant us peace, Lamb of God.

ELW Hymn No. 462 Now We Join in Celebration

Now we join in celebration at our Savior s invitation. Dressed no more in spirit somber, clothed instead in joy and wonder. For the Lord of all existence, putting off divine transcendence. Stoops again in love to meet us, with his very life to feed us.

Lord, as round this feast we gather, fill our hearts with holy rapture! For this bread and cup of blessing, are for us the sure possessing. Of your loving deed on Calv ry, of your living self, our victory. Pledge of your unfailing presence, foretaste here of heavenly gladness.

Lord, we share in this communion as one family of God s children; Reconciled through you, our brother, one in you with God our Father. Give us grace to live for others, serving all, both friends and strangers, Seeking justice, love and mercy till you come in final glory.

POST-COMMUNION BLESSING P: The body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ strengthen you and keep you in his grace. C: Amen.

POST-COMMUNION PRAYER P: It is only through Your grace, O Lord, that we are able to approach Your table, C: and it is only through Your Son s mercy that we are forgiven. Empower us to share that same grace and mercy with all of creation. Amen.

BLESSING P: Almighty God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, bless you now and forever. C: Amen!

Praise to the Lord, the Almighty ELW 858 Praise to the Lord, the Almighty, the King of creation! O my soul, praise him, for he is your health and salvation! Let all who hear now to his temple draw near, Joining in glad adoration!

Praise to the Lord, who o er all things is wondrously reigning And, as on wings of an eagle, uplifting, sustaining. Have you not seen all that is needful has been Sent by his gracious ordaining?

Praise to the Lord, who will prosper your work and defend you; Surely his goodness and mercy shall daily attend you. Ponder anew what the Almighty can do If with his love he befriend you.

Praise to the Lord! Oh, let all that is in me adore him! All that has life and breath, come now with praises before him! Let the amen sound from his people again. Gladly forever adore him!

DISMISSAL P: God is good C:all the time! P: All the time C:God is good! P: And all God s people said C:Amen!
