PURSUING SPIRITUAL TRANSFORMATION Groups begin week of January 26, 2014

1 ACTION GROUPS for 2014! A place where anyone can discover Christ and grow into Christ-likeness by learning and interacting within a community of believers. Action groups at PNC come in various packages. We have groups designed around Bible Study, Financial Growth, Spiritual Growth and Physical Exercise. The Common denominator for all of our groups is the opportunity to make friends and grow to be like Jesus together. Through study, discussion and activity, Action groups accomplish this mission. Following Jesus is a TEAM Sport. Participation in a Action group will allow you to gain practical and spiritual encouragement through interaction with others. I am praying that 2014 will be a year of significant spiritual growth for you as you get involved in Action groups. Plan to sign up today. Pastor Tom Shaw Executive Pastor/Action Groups Key Messages about being involved in an Action Group: God wants you to have real life change. He calls each one to respond to his work within us. It s our responsibility to Take Action. Real Change (Discipleship) happens in relationship with Christ and others.together. Real Change is not just academic but must be lived out daily in relationship. It s not just a thing to do but something to apply. It s about equipping you to serve and love others. PNC provides real change opportunity through Action Groups. Elements of an Action Group: Biblical teaching, fellowship, follow up throughout the week, prayer.

How to understand our Catalog: We have 24 groups for you to choose from! Quick reference guide, see page 20. XtremeKids Action Groups for children are on pages 15 & 16. 2 Materials: Some Action Groups require a book or workbook. The ISBN is listed in the description. If there is a website listed, we have found this is the only place to purchase the material or it has the best price. Websites we recommend are www.bamm.com, www.amazon.com or www.cbd.com. These sites also offer a used book option. Most Christian bookstores should carry these items also. If it says optional, that means materials aren t necessary for the group, but recommended for more in-depth study. Material fees (and childcare fees) are listed in the group s description. They can be brought to the Information Center on Sunday mornings or during normal office hours. Make checks payable to PNC and put the name of the study in the memo line. If paying in cash, please bring the correct amount as change is not available. Debit/Credit machine is available on Sundays. Payment plans may be available through your leader. If a date is listed, this is the cutoff date for us to order the materials. After this date, you will be responsible for purchase. If you have any questions about the process or need help in finding a group, feel free to talk to one of our team at the tables in the foyer. They will be happy to help you find that perfect fit. You may also contact Tom Shaw or Debe Loeber at 253-845-7508. If you are interested in becoming a Group Facilitator, feel free to contact Tom or Debe for an interview appointment.

SUNDAY AM SUN01 Developing a Faith That Works - Book of James Tim Sawer & ALL 9:00am PNC Tom Shaw This is an enriching verse-by-verse, video-based small group study of the book of James taught by Pastor Rick Warren. Material: Discussion Guide found on Saddlebackresources.com. Item #PX400200 SUN02 You Lost Me ALL 9:00am PNC Tim Steele SUN03 SUN04 Nazarene Curriculum ALL 10:30am PNC Stan Thaut 1. Why did Jesus Come? 2. Spiritual Disciplines. 3. Religion Off the Rails. That the World May Know Faith Lessons ALL 10:30am PNC Rich Broeker 6 Close to 60% of young Christians who went to church as teens drop out after high school. This study will inform, equip and empower groups and churches to understand the unique challenges that are affecting younger Christians. It s not enough for us to know that they are dropping out and rethinking their faith; this study provides key insights and practical ways that we can actively engage this generation with thoughtful conversation. Material: Discussion Guide available for $10 in class. Filmed in Israel, Faith Lessons is a unique video series that brings God s Word to life with astounding relevance. By weaving together the Bible s fascinating historical, cultural, religious and geographical contexts, Ray Vander Laan reveals keen insights into scripture s significance for modern believers.

7 SUN05 The Cure ALL 10:45am PNC SUNDAY AM Mark & Kay Niehaus The Cure gives the diagnosis of this century s religious obsession with sin-management. It has poisoned the church, obscuring the Original Good News and sending millions away-wounded, angry and cynical, from nearly any organized expression of faith. The Cure offers an authentic experience in Christ that frees some from a self-rewarding righteousness, and others from a beaten down striving for a righteousness they can never seem to attain. The Cure infuses a relational theology of grace and identity, which alone can heal, free and create sustainable, genuine, loving, life-giving communities. Material: ISBN: 978-0-9847577-0-1 SUN06 Sermon Discussion WOMEN 10:45am PNC Gloria Millsaps Discuss the Sunday sermon and ways to apply it to your life. SUN07 Living Free ALL 10:45am PNC Because we live in a world dominated by sin and Satan - a world marked by rejection, abandonment, injustice, abuse and intimidation - the person God created you to be has been compromised and imprisoned. But Jesus came to set you free! He came to release you to a life full of joy, compassion, courage, hope, peace and love-a life of experiencing Gods presence and power. Material: $20. See page 2 for instructions or pay at the first class. XtremeKids Worship (1 st - 6 th ), Preschool & Nursery are available.

8 SUNDAY PM SUN08 Beautiful Outlaw ALL 5:00pm Downtown Gayle Thacker With an eyebrow-raising warning about the poison of religion, we are urged to turn from religious power displays and legalism and instead spend time falling in love with the man, Jesus. Eldredge repeats tales from the Gospels to reveal a leader who was both humorous and confrontational, generous and moody. Eldredge clearly loves his subject, almost chuckling in delight at Jesus antics. Readers get an intriguing glimpse of Jesus waiting his turn in line, snorting in anger and artfully outsmarting his enemies. Includes a potluck dinner. Material: ISBN: 1455525707

9 TUESDAY AM TUE01 Philippians WOMEN 8:15am PNC Jan Apps Join us as we look at this amazing book of the Bible. Material: Bible TUE02 Believing God WOMEN 9:30am PNC Wendy Blanford The bride of Jesus Christ in our generation is nearly paralyzed by unbelief. God is calling His bride to a fresh and lavish anointing of faith. Through studying the lives of Abraham, Moses and others as examples of persons who believed God, Beth encourages women to deepen their own trust in God and receive a fresh word from Him. Material: ISBN: 0633096679 or $19 by January 26 see page 2 for instructions. Childcare: $10/qtr/child. Maximum $25.

10 WED01 WEDNESDAY AM You Were Born For This MEN 6:00am Near PNC Chuck McKay A continuation of last semester s study. Bruce Wilkinson challenges those who consider themselves average Christians to re-evaluate their personal belief system regarding miracles. To consider the possibility that God not only wants to use His people in His plan, but that He wants us to go to God and ask Him to use us every day in the lives of those around us, to be aware of His nudges, cues and provision toward miracles in order to change the lives of those in need. The why and how of it all very nicely supplies real life stories to demonstrate in a real way how he and others have been used of God to meet the needs of others. Material: ISBN: 978-1-60142-183-8 WED02 Man in the Mirror Devotional MEN 8:00am PNC Steve Shipman This devotional provides short daily devotionals, daily Bible readings, encouraging articles and insightful interviews with men s ministry leaders. Everything in the publication is aimed at men like you: men with busy careers and active families, fathers, husbands, grandfathers, men enjoying retirement, and most of all, men who are looking for more from their spiritual lives. Material: Bible

Material: $15 see page 2 for instructions or pay at the first class. WED05 What s So Amazing About Grace WOMEN 6:30pm PNC Debe Loeber We speak of grace often; but do we understand it? More importantly, do we truly believe in it...and do our lives proclaim it as powerfully as our words? In this study, we will explore grace at street level. If grace is God s love for the undeserving, then what does it look like in action? If Christians are its sole dispensers, then how are we doing at lavishing grace on a cruel and pain-filled world. Discover how you can become Christ s answer to a world that desperately wants to know what s so amazing about grace. 17 THU01 Spiritual Parenting THURSDAY PM PARENTS 7:00pm PNC Aaron Schaefer This group is a follow up to the Spiritual Parenting Seminar January 31-February 1. It s not about perfect behavior. It s about passionate hearts. It s hard enough to train kids to behave, but good behavior isn t what Jesus calls for in the Bible. He wants hearts and souls that are shaped in vibrant faith and love toward God and others. In Spiritual Parenting, Dr. MichelleAnthony places the dependence upon God for our child and calls a reader to a heart posture of obedience and faithfulness. The end goal is a vibrant faith that is passed on from one generation to another.
