Ephesians 4:-3 And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ.

Letter from the Senior Pastor Contact phone 702-362-9000 fax 702-362-59 email springvalley@ccsv.net web ccspringvalley.org Trish Riley Administrative Assistant phone 702-362-9000 ext. 263 email trishriley@ccsv.net Thank you for your interest in Calvary s School of Ministry (SOM). Your desire to grow in your relationship with Jesus and to be used for the advancement of His kingdom is a blessing. I believe that the church is poised to either make an unparalleled impact on the world or fade far into the distance. One of the most important keys to ensuring our impact is to equip believers for the work of the ministry, and that is precisely what this school will do. Offering essential courses through an education/internship philosophy, SOM will help you take the next step in your ministry preparation. However, SOM is not just for people who believe that they have a fulltime ministry calling; it is also for people serving actively in the church who desire further equipping, and those who are simply attending the services. While we all understand the urgent nature of the times we live in, we must match that sense of urgency with a willingness to say like Isaiah did, Here am I, Lord, send me. If that desire has been placed in your heart then SOM is for you. May God richly bless you as you seek His face and His will for your life and may you be fully equipped for every good work that He has beforehand prepared for you to walk in. Pastor Derek 6 ccspringvalley.org

Purpose and Vision core Year by Quarters The motivation in developing Calvary School of Ministry (SOM) is to equip and prepare the church to serve Christ. Therefore, it is the purpose of SOM to raise up pastors, worship leaders, missionaries, and lay leaders for the equipping of the saints in the work of ministry and for edifying the body of Christ (Ephesians 4:-3). We understand that God has purposed unique callings on every believer, which is why SOM is purposed not just for those in full-time ministry, but also for the congregation in delivering a college-level understanding in God s Word. Because it is our vision to know the Lord Jesus Christ and make Him known in our church, in our city, and in our world, we desire to see our students deepened in discipleship, established as interns in ministry, or developed for full time ministry. As Jesus commanded His disciples in Matthew 28:8-9 to go out and make disciples of all the nations and to teach others to observe all things that [He] commanded [them], we also desire to pursue this commandment by equipping other devoted disciples to teach and disciple biblically. We expect that the SOM will be a place where the Word of God will be thoroughly studied to counsel the believer towards God s special calling in his/her life for ministry. 2 3 4 The procedure for making up absences: Fill out the Absence Form available. Log-in to the student moodle section of the CCSV website to listen to previous classes or teachings. Submit your completed absence form to either your course instructor or the Administrative Assistant on the day of class. Turn in any homework that was due or assigned the day you were absent on the following day of class. The deadline for turning in missing work is two classes after the class you missed (e.g. this is two weeks after). It is important that students are on time for class. Classes begin promptly at 7:00p.m. Tardiness may or may not result in a grade penalty and is at the discretion of course instructor. Absences are factored into a student s grade after his/her final grade for a course has been calculated. The attendance grade for a class is calculated based on a point system. New Students What do I need for class? A NKJV Bible. A few Bible resources such as a concordance, or Bible dictionary. If possible, bring a laptop computer. All required reading material will be listed online as well as in the class syllabus. Financial Information Tuition and Fees: It is our effort to try and keep the cost of School of Ministry as affordable as possible. Full-Time Participant: There are two classes per quarter on Monday and Tuesday evenings from 7-9p.m. Classes are $55 per class. The student seeking to pursue CORE 2 will be required to complete CORE with a GPA of 3.0 and fill out an additional application. Acceptance to Core 2 will be contingent upon pastoral approval. Please Note: 2 ccspringvalley.org Whether you are looking to complete the School Of Ministry program or simply taking an individual class, all are welcome. 5

Auditing: There will be no auditing of any classes. Refund Policy: Prior to the first day of class, students are eligible for a full refund of tuition. After the first day of class, tuition is non-refundable. Note: All tuition fees are due week prior to st class of each quarter. **Tuition will be charged quarterly per class. Child Care: Child care provided for a fee of $5.00 per child per class. Fees are paid directly to Child Care volunteers. Please note Child Care subject to cancellation based on need. Attendance Class participation is not just a percentage of your grade, but also where fellowship and learning as a community of believers is enhanced. In the classroom, the ability to engage in discussion and ask questions is where a student will be able to actively participate and excel. For this reason, it is mandatory that attendance is emphasized crucially in order to promote the student s learning experience. Although we do recognize that justifying circumstance will at times prevent students from attending class, we ask that you report online to the student log-in that will clarify what you have missed. If you have any further questions concerning attendance, you may e-mail the Administrative Assistant, and not the course instructor. The Administrative Assistant s contact information is available online. Typical Reasons for Excused Absences: Sickness, medical problems, urgent family or close friend involvements (normally medical emergencies or death), scheduled short-term mission trips affiliated with CCSV. Note: Mission Trips must be scheduled with course instructor or they will be considered unexcused. If you know that you are going to be absent, you will be required to fill out an Absent Form one day prior in order to receive an excused absence. All absences may be made up. However, the privilege to make up tests or finals is at the discretion of the instructor. 6 ccspringvalley.org

Code of Conduct core Course Descriptions The Codes of Conduct are in place to ensure our SOM Core 2 interns are following standards of a Christian role model. By enrolling in the CCSV SOM Core 2 program with us, you have a responsibility to CCSV and to your fellow team members to adhere to certain rules of behavior and conduct. Ministry leaders may determine that certain behavior, not described in these standards; also warrant church disciplinary action up to and including removal from the SOM Core 2 program. Galatians 5:9 list behaviors and attitudes that are deemed inconsistent with a true Christian profession and are determined to be unacceptable for a Core 2 intern at CCSV. This list includes adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery (use of illegal or legal substances for recreational purposes), hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries and the like. In addition to those mentioned above: Any conduct that materially and adversely reflects negatively or brings discredit on CCSV in the eyes of the government or the public. This could include but is not limited to, engaging in criminal conduct or acts of violence. Q Q2 Note: All classes are located in modular 205M, unless otherwise stated. Biblical Self-Confrontation (BCF): The BCF course is designed to build upon biblical principles that will provide patterns for living a victorious and content life. Each lesson is designed to explain the meaning of specific biblical principles and to build them into your life and ministry through very practical homework assignments. OT Survey: The intention of an Old Testament survey class is to give a broad understanding of the message and importance of the Old Testament and to experience the excitement of knowing God through the study of His Word. A survey cannot fully examine the entirety of the Old Testament, but will be a useful tool in providing a basic but thorough coverage of the Old Testament and challenge you to take serious the investigation of God s truth as revealed in the Old Testament. Church History: Perhaps one of the most important courses for every Christian to take, Church History will give the student a solid understanding of the last 2000 years of the church. This class will highlight some of the defining moments in the history of the Christian Church including: the first century of the church, the Nicaean Council, the great schism, and the Protestant Reformation. 0 7

Theology 0: This course is designed to give the student a biblically systematic and in-depth understanding of the great doctrines of Scripture. Topics will include: sin, salvation, the Trinity, the church, and much more. Q4 The Life of Christ: This class is designed to give a thorough overview of the life of Jesus Christ on earth, with special attention to the developing emphasis and distinct purposes that prevailed during our Lord s public ministry. Q3 How to Study Your Bible: This interactive training utilizes inductive Bible study methods to learn how to study the Holy Scriptures. This will revolutionize your reading and studying of the Bible and draw you closer in your relationship with the Lord. Note: Dates for this course are subject to change. Pastoral Epistles: The purpose of this course is to engage students in an examination of Pastoral responsibilities as outlined in the Pastoral Epistles. Using the books of Timothy and Titus as a backdrop for the course, emphasis will be placed on the practical application of course material within a Church leadership setting. Topics covered will include: calling, role of men, women, elders, deacons, church responsibilities, gifts, servanthood, last days, preaching and warnings. Evangelism/Apologetics/Missions (EAM): In a world where biblical truth is regularly challenged it is vital to be able to give a defense for the faith that we hold so dearly. This class is designed to equip every believer to not only defend the Christian faith but to lead opponents of Christianity to salvation. Students will discover the message of God s missionary heart throughout Scripture while simultaneously developing a foundational understanding of world missions. 8 ccspringvalley.org 2 3 Church Planting: Scroll back to the beginning of any church, and you ll find the same key ingredient. Without it, there would be no church. Without it, there would be no mouthpiece. It doesn t linger in the deception of doubt but rather runs in the promises of faith. This ingredient prays for the harvest while shepherding the flock. It s desire is His desire; winning souls for Christ. The ingredient that God uses is the man who is willing: the church planter. If you ve ever felt called to plant a church, support a planter, or simply want to learn what it all entails, we would love to have you. Join us as we unfold the leader God uses to build His church. core core2 Requirements With each course, you will be required to: Follow the Course Guide instructions. Listen to lectures prepared by the instructor. Complete all lecture notes, exams, research papers and book reports and return all assignments within the module time frame. Course Descriptions Note: Completion of CORE required. CORE 2 is intended to develop potential ministers in several specific areas: pastoral ministry, worship ministry, children s ministry and missions. CORE 2 students will be admitted through an application and interview process. 9
