Ken Irwin From: Southminster Presbyterian Church <office@sminster.com> Sent: Friday, January 05, 201812:05 PM To: communications@sminster.com Subject: News & Notes for January 5, 2018 To be the head, heart and hands of Jesus Christ, driven by God's love for our church and the world beyond. NEWS & NOTES January 5, 2018 UPCOMING EVENTS SPECIAL EPIPHANY CLASS - THIS SUNDAY! Date: Sunday, January 7 Facilitator: Steve Davis Time: 8:45am Location: Hospitality Room What is Epiphany? Traditionally, a celebration of the three wise men visiting the baby Jesus. More broadly, a commemoration of the coming of God to earth in the person of Jesus. But what does that coming mean for us? How can we manifest the presence of Jesus in our lives? Join us on Epiphany Sunday for a lively discussion of the Scriptural basis of Epiphany and its implications for us. Then come join us again at 5:30 for the Epiphany Feast in the CFC! CHURCH TOUR Date: Sunday, January 7, 2018 Time: 11:15am Location: Meet at Welcome Center 1

Marj Lawson will offer a tour of the church, following Worship. Meet her at the Welcome Center for this tour which will take about 45 minutes. Advance registration is not necessary, but helpful and can be noted in the Friendship pad. THE EPIPHANY FEAST Date: Sunday, January 7, 2018 Time: 5:30pm Location: Christian Fellowship Center (CFC) Join us for this special time of fellowship and worship for the whole family! What IS the Epiphany Feast? Epiphany is the celebration of the glory of God revealed in the world. It is a time when we remember the story of the journey of the magi who traveled to see the Christ child and left by another road to share the message of God s love and to be bearers of God s light to the world. The EPIPHANY FEAST will include music, dinner and worship. Whoever gets one of the 3 almonds in the cake will become one of the magi. (We also will have a cake for those allergic to nuts.) We will have a brief time of worship with scripture, song, and candle lighting as we remain gathered around the tables. The Epiphany Feast has something that should appeal to all ages. (Most children will enjoy the experience, but we will have someone in the nursery if they prefer to go there after dinner.) Come and add this special holiday tradition to enrich your experience of faith and fellowship. I hope to see you there! Nancy ELDERBERRIES Date: Friday, February 2 Time: 11:15am 2

Location: Christian Fellowship Center The next meeting of the Elderberries will be February 2. Susan Allen, who teaches Chair Yoga in our church, will be here to show us some gentle moves we can do easily in a chair. These are designed to help us release tension, and gain a bit more strength, flexibility, mental clarity and better overall health. Susan comes highly recommended. Feel free to invite any of your friends to join us. If they are coming, be sure to sign them up so we have enough food prepared. For additional upcoming events, be sure to visit our website OPPORTUNITIES TO SERVE CLOTHES THAT WORK Volunteers are needed for a three month commitment to see that the clothing donated for Clothes That Work be taken either to the Clothes That Work location at Edwin C; Moses Blvd. or to the Boonshoft Center for Jewish Culture and Education on Versailles Dr. which is off Loop Road. Usually there are two volunteers per quarter. If you are willing to volunteer for this mission, please contact Mary Stahley at 401-8667 or email Mary at: mstahley@aol.com. MEDIA VOLUNTEERS NEEDED Would you like to help out running Media Shout in the sanctuary on Sunday mornings? If so, please contact Elizabeth Davis for information and to sign-up.
