Forgiven here was no radio contact from Nate all unday night. n onday a search party was organized. Kathy was awakened early uesday morning by helicopters landing at hell era to begin the search for her father and the others. s she gazed out the window at the helicopters, she heard her mother s voice. appy birthday, arj said, motioning Kathy to follow her. lthough Daddy isn t here today, he would still want you to have a party, arj said pointing to a decorated table out in the yard. Nates s sister, Rachel, knew an uca woman living near one of the mission camps. he woman, whose name was Dayuma, had run away from the uca village because other ucas had killed her father and brother. Rachel began learning the uca language from Dayuma, and as she did, Rachel taught Dayuma many Bible stories. Before long, Dayuma had accepted Jesus as her avior. ne day 2 women travelled from the uca village trying to find Dayuma to tell her that her mother wanted her to return to the village. Dayuma went back to the uca village to visit her mother. Dayuma told the ucas how Rachel taught h e r t h e s t o r y of Jesus dying on a cross. We have never heard such a wonderful story, the ucas said. his is the story that the men in the airplane were going to tell you, Dayuma said, but you killed them before they could tell you. he uca leaders decided that Dayuma should ask Rachel to come and live in the village with them and tell them about Jesus. Rachael agreed to go to the uca 15 village and teach the ucas about Jesus. God had finally opened the door to the uca village. When Kathy was 11 years old, she went to visit her aunt Rachel at the uca village. Kathy spent several summers with her unt Rachel and the ucas. ven though the ucas had killed her daddy, Kathy found them easy to love. During one visit, Kathy went to Palm Beach, the spot where h e r f a t h e r g a v e his life for C h r i s t. h e r e Kathy was b a p t i z e d b y t w o uca men n a m e d Kimo and Duywi, 2 o f t h e u c a s who killed her daddy a n d t h e o t h e r 4 missionari e s. K i m o a n d D u y w i had been saved and were now preachers in the uca village. Kathy s unt Rachel was there and translated Kimo s prayer as he baptized Kathy. Lord, we were here a long time ago, Kimo prayed, but our hearts were different then. oday the uca Indians are called Waorani Indians. any Waoranis have become Christians because of the sacrifice of Nate aint and the other missionaries. Gikita, the Waorani who actually killed Kathy s father, Nate, was interviewed for a Christian film in 1992. When asked about that day on Palm Beach, Gikita said, I have killed many men, but I know that I am forgiven. omeday, when I get to heaven, I will look up Nate aint, and I will throw my arms around him, and we will be friends forever.
