Give Thanks for the Promise Isaiah 12:1-6
When we read the Old Testament prophet Isaiah we remember that these promises were written for the nations of Israel and Judah. Some of these promises will be fulfilled at a date in the future. But because they are given from our promise keeping God, they extend that similar hope to all who believe. (See Isaiah 11:10)
1 You will say in that day: I will give thanks to you, O Lord, for though you were angry with me, your anger turned away, that you might comfort me. 2 Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and will not be afraid; for the Lord God is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation. 3 With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation. Isaiah 12:1-3
4 And you will say in that day: Give thanks to the Lord, call upon his name, make known his deeds among the peoples, proclaim that his name is exalted. 5 Sing praises to the Lord, for he has done gloriously; let this be made known in all the earth. 6 Shout, and sing for joy, O inhabitant of Zion, for great in your midst is the Holy One of Israel. Isaiah 12:1-3

GIVE THANKS FOR THE PROMISE I am thankful God is my comfort. He is no longer angry at me though I deserved it (Isa. 12:1). I am thankful God is my confidence.

God s wrath in the Bible is never the capricious, self-indulgent, irritable, morally ignoble thing that human anger so often is. It is, instead, a right and necessary reaction to objective moral evil. J.I.Packer in Knowing God

The Lord is a jealous and avenging God; the Lord is avenging and wrathful; the Lord takes vengeance on his adversaries and keeps wrath for his enemies (Nahum 1:2) For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth (Romans 1:18).

30 The Lord will judge his people. 31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God (Hebrews 10:30, 31). There is nothing that keeps wicked men at any one moment out of hell, but the mere pleasure of God. Jonathan Edwards in Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God

By Jesus Christ, the root of Jesse, God s anger against mankind was turned away; for he is our peace. Those whom God is reconciled to he comforts; even the turning away of his anger is a comfort to them; Matthew Henry
For the future remnant who will recognize the substitutionary death of Christ for their sins, Christ bore God s anger in their place. Otherwise, that anger against them would remain. The MacArthur Study Bible
