Lesson Text: Romans 5:1-11 Sunday, July 24, 2016 King James Version (KJV) I. ASSURANCE COMES FROM OUR STANDING WITH GOD (Romans 5:1-2) 1. Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: 2. By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. II. ASSURANCE COMES FROM OUR EXPERIENCE IN TRIALS (Romans 5:3-4) 3. And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; 4. And patience, experience; and experience, hope:

III. ASSURANCE COMES FROM POSSESSING GOD S LOVE (Romans 5:5-8) 5. And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us. 6. For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. 7. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. 8. But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. IV. ASSURANCE FOR THE FUTURE (Romans 5:9-10) 9. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. 10. For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to

God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life. V. ASSURANCE COMES FROM EXULTING IN GOD (Romans 5:11) 11. And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement. New International Version (NIV) I. ASSURANCE COMES FROM OUR STANDING WITH GOD (Romans 5:1-2) 1. Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, wehave peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2. through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand.and we boast in the hope of the glory of God.

II. ASSURANCE COMES FROM OUR EXPERIENCE IN TRIALS (Romans 5:3-4) 3. Not only so, but wealso glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; 4. perseverance, character; and character, hope. III. ASSURANCE COMES FROM POSSESSING GOD S LOVE (Romans 5:5-8) 5. And hope does not put us to shame, because God s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us. 6. You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, christ died for the ungodly. 7. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. 8. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

IV. ASSURANCE FOR THE FUTURE (Romans 5:9-10) 9. Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God s wrath through him! 10. For if, while we were God s enemies,we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! V. ASSURANCE COMES FROM EXULTING IN GOD (Romans 5:11) 11. Not only is this so, but we also boast in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation. PRACTICAL POINTS:

1. Peace with others is gratifying, but peace with God is bliss (Romans 5:1). 2. Faith is the key that opens the door to God and His gracious blessings (Romans 5:2). 3. God uses our struggles and problems to develop our character and draw us closer to Him (Romans 5:3-4). 4. Through the love of God and the power of the Holy Spirit, we can stand firm in faith during our struggles (Romans 5:5). 5. We should admit that we were powerless to bring about our own salvation (Romans 5:6). 6. Christ s death for sinners makes all other sacrificial acts by people pale in comparison (Romans 5:7-8). 7. Since God rescued us when we were Hs enemies, we know that He will also preserve us because we are now His friends (Romans 5:9-10; John 15:15). 8. We should rejoice and praise God for providing peace between us and Him through Jesus Christ (Romans 5:11).
