The Boundaries Are Set 21 Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. How Jesus Loves His Church! Series: Ephesians Pastor Brett Ephesians 5:21-33 Instructions To Wives: 22 Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. 24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything. Misquoted/Wrongly interpreted a lot in today s culture! Instruction To Husbands: 25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her 26 to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, 27 and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. 28 In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. 29 After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their body, just as Christ does the church So What Does This Have To Do With Faith Church In 2017? 30 for we are members of his body. 31 For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh. 32 This is a profound mystery but I am talking about Christ and the church. Interesting Points: o Because women (wives) were not treated very respectfully (if at all) in this day and age, what Paul is asking them to do would have been a spotlight of Christ on their community. Unfortunately, the problem is just as bad today with the world of cybersex and a whole lot of other avenues, where women are treated as meat rather than for their God given talents. I wonder, if we, as the new society stood up against movies, TV Shows and other media avenues that downgraded women (and also the role of men) in our society, how far we would get in making a stand? o The picture of marriage is the picture of the church in so many ways. One of the ways that really intrigued me is the picture of Pastor To Congregation. There is to be a mutual submission and that is important to have. Me, as Pastor submitting to you (not being a welcoming mat), and you, congregation submitting to me as Pastor (but not as a dictator.) o Jesus is calling us to come to the tables as His bride Faith Church. Working together submitting to one another and being all that He imagines and dreams we could be in the church. So, as we come to the table, may we come as a bride coming in all her beauty being presented to her husband as flawless (because of His forgiveness in the body and the blood) bride!
Evangelical Congregational Church Belief About The Lord s Supper o You do not need to be a member of any church to partake of the Lord s Supper this morning. o You must have a relationship with Jesus Christ in order to partake of the Lord s Supper this morning. o If you are a parent or guardian of children this morning it is your decision as to whether or not to allow your children to partake. This decision should be based on two factors: 1.) Do they know the Lord as their Lord and Savior? 2.) Do they understand what the bread and the juice represent this morning? Challenges From Hymns: Table 1: Oh, the love that drew salvation s plan! Oh, the grace that brought it down to man! Oh, the mighty gulf that God did span. At Calvary! Singing The Fourth Verse of At Calvary as the first table leaves and the second table comes to partake! Table 2: But drops of grief can ne er repay The debt of love I owe: Here, Lord, I give myself away, Tis all that I can do. Singing The Fourth Verse of At The Cross as the second table leaves and the third table comes to partake! Table 3: Lord, now indeed I find Thy pow'r and Thine alone, Can change the leper's spots And melt the heart of stone. Singing The Second Verse of Jesus Paid It All as the third table leaves and the fourth table comes to partake! Table 4: Nothing can for sin atone, Nothing but the blood of Jesus; Naught of good that I have done, nothing but the blood of Jesus. Singing The Third Verse of What Can Wash Away My Sin as the fourth table leaves and the fifth table comes to partake! Table 5: Jesus to Calvary did go, His love for sinners to show. What He did there brought hope from despair. Oh, how He loves you; Oh, how he loves me; Oh, how he loves you and me. Singing The Second Verse of O How He Loves You and Me as the fifth table leaves and the sixth table comes to partake! Table 6: Refrain: So I'll cherish the old rugged Cross Till my trophies at last I lay down I will cling to the old rugged Cross And exchange it some day for a crown. Singing The First Verse of The Old Rugged Cross as the sixth table leaves and the seventh tables comes to partake! Table 7: Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine! O what a foretaste of glory divine! Heir of salvation, purchase of God, Born of his Spirit, washed in his blood. Singing The First Verse of Blessed Assurance as the seventh table leaves and the eighth table comes to partake! Table 8: In all the world around me I see His loving care And though my heart grows weary, I never will despair; I know that He is leading, Through all the stormy blast; The day of His appearing Will come at last. Singing The Second Verse of He Lives as the eighth table leaves!
