Religious Education?? ARE YOU READY?? When I was in 8 th grade at the Cathedral, we loved to get Sister off the subject. Our favorite topic to distract her was talking about the end of the world. And, oh, it was so very exciting! She would tell us that it was coming soon! But when, Sister? She would respond in a conspiring tone, There are rumors loating about, that it s going to happen in 1960! Wow, we would respond in hushed voices, That s not too far away! 1960 has come and gone. So has the scare of Y2K. And we are all still here. The survivalists are still saving their food packs and perhaps wondering how long that food will keep. I look at our multi-gallon jar of dried beans in the basement and wonder the same thing. Our world is not a safe place to live in. There are wars and rumors of wars. There are horrible mass shootings and large mass graves discovered in the Middle East. But, we are still here. Are we going to self-destruct as a race? Hollywood has created blockbusters that depict that event, featuring lone survivors trying to create new civilizations. We are as enticed by them as was my class of 8 th graders back at the Cathedral. Today s scripture readings remind us again, that it WILL happen. When? Jesus tells us that no one knows except the Father. So what are we to do with this information? The lesson in the Gospel is that we are to be ready, be prepared. The Coast Guard and Boy Scouts share a motto, Semper paratus! Always be prepared! So, we live life today and every day as though it is the last. PLUS, we must trust that God is always in charge, no matter what the situation looks like. We always are held in the palm of God s hand! Pat DeGroot, Benedictine Oblate, spiritual director Moved, changed your phone number or your e-mail address? H M Holy Moments are recognizing God's ingerprints in our life. "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths." Proverbs 3:5 it s easy see to Holy Moments during a disaster, Holy Moments are all around, people lending a hand to help, being present to those in need after a disaster but, that s not most of our reality or everyday experiences. For most of us we pray and receive some answers to our prayers or we might lend an ear to listen to a friend, provide food or clothes for the needy, but overlook other Holy Moments in our lives as we get caught up in the hustle and bustle of life, rushing through our daily routines, or as Matthew Kelly puts it sleepwalking our life away. We need to be aware, remember God knows me, wherever I am, God is with me. That is exactly the reason we need to be sensitive to His voice leading us to the Holy Moments often overlooked as we rush through our daily routines. God is always working to strengthen our spiritual life to his presence through Holy Moments, opportunities for virtuous action. G T The best way we can celebrate Christmas is by giving our gifts to Jesus gifts of love and thankfulness. It is a time when we can stop and remember those who are often forgotten. We can reach out to help those in need. We can show our thankfulness to those whose need is greater than ours. Why not take this opportunity to do something that opens the door to further discipleship in our lives. When you give gifts at Christmas time you are re lecting the very nature of God. On your way out of church during the week, on Saturday evenings or Sunday mornings, November 17 thru December 2, please take a tag to help others at Freedom House, Denmark Community Cupboard, NEW Community Shelter, St. John s Homeless Shelter, Brown County Treatment Center, Preble Hive and new this year is McKinney Vento, a program to assist homeless children and youth in Green Bay Public Schools; so that the less fortunate in our community will have a better Christmas. Bring your unwrapped gift with the tag attached back to us by December 2. And don t forget SCRIP a great idea in purchasing a gift. Thank you from your Justice and Human Concerns Committee S W N If the public schools are closed due to extreme weather conditions, the Parish Of ice will be closed and there will NOT be a morning Mass that day. Please check the website for all weather advisories. If the Public Schools are delayed, the Parish Of ice will open at 10:00am and there will NOT be a morning Mass that day. Please call before coming to the Parish Of ice to verify that we are open. Closures will be posted on local TV stations (WBAY, Fox 11, Channel 5), and our website. Religious Education classes will be cancelled if area schools are closed due to bad weather. E-mails will be sent to all families notifying them of the cancellation. P P P C Holy Martyr s and Holy Trinity Sites Please remove all Summer decorations from grave sites, by December 1st in preparation for winter. Thank You J If you or a loved one is hospitalized & you d like a visit from the parish, please let us know.
