Lent will commence with an Ash Wednesday service on Wednesday 10 th February at 7:00PM. In the last few years we have used the Lent Event Resources for worship and private devotions as well. This year we will again be using these resources. The NEW Lent Event App offers more features to enrich your spiritual journey through Lent! You can choose to receive daily prayers and reflections on your smartphone or tablet, as well as watch clips and read inspiring stories about the people and communities that Lent Event supports. It s free, and available now in the App store (for ios), and on Google Play (for Android). Lenten studies will also commence shortly. A study booklet can be ordered from Peter in the office (on 9723 5103) or from Bronwyn, for a donation of $5. Studies will take place on Tuesday mornings, from 10:30AM 12:00PM (midday). There will be 6 studies on the theme of Guided by the Light, guided by the Spirit by Rev Dr Tony Floyd. Studies will be on from 16 th February - 22 nd March (inclusive). EVENING FELLOWSHIP BBQ Notes & News MSR UPDATE On Wednesday 17 th February, the Evening Fellowship will begin the year with their traditional barbeque, to raise funds for the UnitingCare Pancake Day appeal. The barbeque will commence at 6:00PM with sausages, rissoles, salads and bread stick, followed by cold sweets, fruit salad and ice cream. Tea, coffee and cordial will also be provided. LENTARA ASYLUM SEEKER PROJECT Lentara works with asylum seekers who live in our community with little, if any, government assistance. These people need all the help they can get just to survive. Money is always tight. If you would like to support the work of the Lentara ASP, please add your donation to the collection in an envelope clearly marked: ATT: Asylum Seeker Project, or hand it to ISLA MACLEOD. If you donate by cheque, please make it out to: Croydon U.C. Asylum Seeker Project. The money collected will go through the Share Appeal, who add a percentage more to each donation. Thank you for your past generosity in helping Lentara assist our desperate brothers and sisters! The Major Strategic Review (MSR) is holding more information sessions across Victoria and Tasmania. This is YOUR opportunity to hear and provide feedback on the proposed vision and plans for the Synod. Please consider attending one of the following sessions to discuss the findings of the MSR and the possible changes for the Church: Tuesday 8 th March @ Heathmont Uniting Church (89 Canterbury Rd, Heathmont) at 6:30PM. Saturday 19 th March @ the Victorian Synod Office (130 Little Collins St, Melbourne) at 10:00AM. The sessions will run for two to three hours. More information is available at: www.listeningpost.victas.uca.org.au/msr PLAYGROUP: HELP WANTED! Our Playgroup Coordinator, JACQUI NICHOLLS, is looking for assistance with Friday playgroup sessions. She needs someone (or a group of people) who can help her to set up and pack up before and after the sessions (which run from 9:30AM to 11:30AM, during school term time), and to chat with the carers and children who attend. Please contact Jacqui on 0417 145 971 or email her at jacnic29@gmail.com if you can help or have any queries.
