EMPOWERING DAOIST MUDRAS FOR HEALTH, WEALTH, PROTECTION and PEACE -Presented by: Shifu Loretta Wollering. http:// www.internalgardens.com (online and in-person taiji/daoist school) -------------------------------------------------------------------- Mudras are less than 10% effective if they are not "programmed" properly. Few people know about Daoist mudras, and most of these folks use mudras as an "emergency pain remedy" instead of a preventive measure or an "investment." Problem: The human brain creates a STRONG associating between a "state" and stimuli that is present. Ex: Pavlov's dogs. They would hear a bell, and then receive food. Learning also occurs by operant conditioning, in which a behavior or action (or state of feeling) is strengthened or weakened by reward or punishment. If you use a mudra to help you get out of a negative situation, it may give you that comfort and help, but often with a tinge of hidden negativity. This is because you may be reinforcing the association of a negative situation with the mudra. THIS BLOCKS POSITIVE ENERGY! Instead, use the mudra when you "don't need it" and are experiencing a very positive situation related to the energy of that mudra. This reinforces positive association in your brain& life. To "program" a mudra for maximum power: 1) Identify your "EXCELLENT" state. 2) Visualize a qi mist of that particular positive energy surrounding you, emanating from your dantian and the universe. Pay attention to your imagination - what colors, sounds, feelings, etc? 3) Organize your mudra. Know that when you create it, it will make an alchemical reaction with the qi mist and become supercharged. Either: reflect back to a time in your life when you felt that positive energy you are trying to increase, or feel it NOW if you are reinforcing the mudra.
Breathe more rapidly and do heel drops until you start to feel the "state" fade a touch. 4) All at once, as you exhale, DROP the mudra and suck the qi mist back into your dantian. 5) Then quickly recreate the qi mist by breathing it out or projecting it out. Recreate the mudra. Feel its positivity. 6) Say to yourself, something like: "From now on, whenever I create this mudra, I will achieve/have/come closer to. 7) Then, in your mind, experience and see how any FUTURE situation will improve and be totally different. Talk about it to yourself. Then quickly suck the qi mist back in, exhale, drop the mudra, and walk away. 8) Ground yourself by doing something totally different, drink a glass of water, take a walk, do some tai chi, eat a healthy snack, etc. ------- To use the mudra: When you USE that mudra, envision the "problem" like you are watching a movie. See it turn black and white. See/hear it fade from you, see it travel away from you and get smaller and less focused and quieter, until there is nothing left. Then take a deep breath, exhale, and release the mudra's energy to the universe, leaving it to the Dao, or "in God's hands." There is nothing more for you to do at that moment. Just let go. --------- Mudras: LOVE, COMPASSION, HEALING: This mudra is also the "Guan Yin" buddhist mudra. It attracts to you, and projects from you, Divine compassion, healing and love. More powerful to use as
"antennae" by crossing wrists over your heart, right over left, with this mudra in both hands. FORM: Extend index and little fingers, while touching thumb to tips of middle and ring fingers. PROTECTION FROM NEGATIVE ENERGY, DEFENSE, HEALING: Use to clear a space, person, animal, etc of negativity. Use to keep yourself protected whenever you feel threatened or vulnerable. Use it to clear yourself or others while healing from disease or pain. Helps to break through obstacles too. FORM: Touch thumb tips together and touch little fingers together. Thumbs down and little fingers point up. Touch index finger tips together, point up. Curl the middle and ring fingers down, touching the backs together. Notice the heart shape formed in the center. SWORD MUDRA: Cuts through to the Truth. Also use it for defense and to channel martial energy. Good for developing powers of the mind, whether intellect or intuition. With index and middle finger spread, it becomes the "Celestial Scissors" mudra. Use it to cut energetic cords of attachment or negativity. FORM: Extend up index and middle fingers. Touch thumb tip outside of ringer and little fingers.
WEALTH AND CONFIDENCE MUDRA: Develops confidence and self-discipline to see your through your goals and create wealth-creating and wealth-attracting behavior and opportunities. Also used for ANY goal-setting work. Great for helping to break addictions or other self-blocking behaviors. FORM: First make a fist. Then pull out the index finger, middle finger and thumb. Sandwich the index finger between the pads of the middle finger and thumb... INSPIRATION, SPIRITUAL CONNECTION AND INTUITION MUDRA: Helps develop the "shen" or vital spirit energy and connection to the Dao/Divine. Also for gaining inspiration when needed, and helps develop intuition. FORM: Hold hands up and third-eye level, palms out, arms rounded, elbows down. Touch index finger tips and thumb tips. Look through the "triangle" with soft focus (eagle eyes/unfocused). Eyes look up about 20 degrees, but head stays relatively level (don't tilt head up/ back).
FINDING THE ANSWERS MUDRA: Use to find an answer to something. Use this in a meditative state. Be very open to the idea that you may receive an answer you were not ready to get or accept at the moment! Ask for protection and guidance before using this mudra. For extra power, use this while laying down and place this mudra (palms) over your chest. Let your breathing all be from your abdomen so that there is very little movement in the chest. FORM: Cross back of the right hand over the left palm. Place left thumb at base of index finger of right hand. Cross right thumb over left. Try to place right thumb tip to second joint of right ring finger. Let fingertips of left hand relax and curl a bit of back and outside of right index finger and hand. TAIJI KNOT MUDRA: This mudra is excellent to use while in seated meditation. Helps balance the internal alchemy, neurotransmitters, hormones, body temperature, moods, etc. Said to help develop qi. This was Grandmaster Jou Tsung Hwa's favorite mudra to use during seated meditation. FORM: Place left thumb tip to middle joint of left ring finger. Put right thumb to hollow of left fist, so it touches left thumb. Wrap fingers of right hand over left fingers, directly on top of the fingers. Your hands look like the yin and yang (taiga diagram) symbol. Variation - some people just touch the right thumb tip to the middle joint of the left ring finger and then wrap the hands, with the left thumb wrapped on the outside of the right. # # #
