Welcome To Hillcrest Presbyterian Church ~ 1 ~

*Opening Hymn #276 A Service For The Worship Of God October 8, 2017 We give thanks that God has called us to worship together. A Word of Welcome and Announcements ~ 2 ~ Great Is Thy Faithfulness Call To Worship Ps. 19: 1 4 Leader: The heavens declare the glory of God! People: The skies proclaim God s handiwork. Leader: The day pronounces God s glory without a sound, People: the night expounds God s knowledge without a word, Leader: and yet their voice goes out through all the earth. Unison: Let us join our voices with the voice of creation in declaring God s glory! Affirmation Of Faith (in unison) I BELIEVE in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic Church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen. Hymn: 10,000 Reasons, Bless the Lord Chorus Bless the Lord, Verse 1 The sun comes up; it's a new day dawning THE APOSTLES CREED Matt Redman It's time to sing Your song again Whatever may pass and whatever lies before me Let me be singing when the evening comes Chorus Bless the Lord,

Verse 2 You're rich in love and You're slow to anger Your name is great and Your heart is kind For all Your goodness, I will keep on singing 10,000 reasons for my heart to find Chorus Bless the Lord, Verse 3 And on that day when my strength is failing The end draws near and my time has come Still my soul will sing Your praise unending 10,000 years and then forever more Chorus Bless the Lord, Bless the Lord, worship Your holy name* Call To Confession Leader: Let us confess our sins against God and our neighbor, trusting in the promise of forgiveness. Prayer Of Confession Rescuing God, you brought us out of the land of captivity, out of the house of slavery. Forgive us when we willingly return to slavery, making divine the machine of production, crafting idols from the excess of consumption. Forgive us when we consider ourselves so grand that we do not rest and enjoy your presence, defining ourselves by our ability rather than your love. Forgive us when we esteem ourselves so little that we dare not rest and sit with ourselves, exposed, without the cloak of productivity. ~ 3 ~

Forgive us when we deem our species so central that we do not rest and halt consumption, decimating Earth, denying her Sabbath and integrity. Forgive us through Christ, who redeems us from the brokenness of slavery that we might enjoy your presence, creation, and community. (Silent Confession) In Christ s name we pray. Amen. Assurance of Pardon Leader: If we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him. So we must consider ourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus. People: In Jesus Christ we are forgiven. Thanks be to God *Gloria Patri: Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Amen. Passing The Peace Of Christ Leader: As a forgiven people, let us share the peace of Christ The Peace Of Christ Be With You. People: And Also With You. Leader: Let us turn and greet one another Children s Message Hymn #379 Prayers Of The People and Lord s Prayer (You are invited to share out loud your prayer concerns and joys) Leader: Lord in you mercy People: Hear our prayer. My hope Is Built On Nothing Less Lord s Prayer (in unison) Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil; For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen. Prayer Response Hymn #325 Spirit Divine, Attend Our Prayers Spirit divine, attend our prayers, And make this house your home; Descend with all your gracious powers; O come, great Spirit, come! ~ 4 ~

Offering (let us present our Offerings, Tithes and Gifts to the Lord) Prayer of Dedication Offertory *Doxology Praise God from whom all blessings flow. Praise Him, all creatures here below. Praise Him above, ye heav nly host. Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen. Choir Scripture Matthew 21:33-46 Now listen to another story. A certain landowner planted a vineyard, built a wall around it, dug a pit for pressing out the grape juice, and built a lookout tower. Then he leased the vineyard to tenant farmers and moved to another country. At the time of the grape harvest, he sent his servants to collect his share of the crop. But the farmers grabbed his servants, beat one, killed one, and stoned another. So the landowner sent a larger group of his servants to collect for him, but the results were the same. Finally, the owner sent his son, thinking, Surely they will respect my son. But when the tenant farmers saw his son coming, they said to one another, Here comes the heir to this estate. Come on, let s kill him and get the estate for ourselves! So they grabbed him, dragged him out of the vineyard, and murdered him. When the owner of the vineyard returns, Jesus asked, what do you think he will do to those farmers? The religious leaders replied, He will put the wicked men to a horrible death and lease the vineyard to others who will give him his share of the crop after each harvest. Then Jesus asked them, Didn t you ever read this in the Scriptures? The stone that the builders rejected has now become the cornerstone. This is the Lord s doing, and it is wonderful to see. I tell you, the Kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a nation that will produce the proper fruit. Anyone who stumbles over that stone will be broken to pieces, and it will crush anyone it falls on. When the leading priests and Pharisees heard this parable, they realized he was telling the story against them they were the wicked farmers. They wanted to arrest him, but they were afraid of the crowds, who considered Jesus to be a prophet. ~ 5 ~
