God s Word - Time With God Today s SOAP from Pastor Will Lopes Scripture: Psalm 23:1-6 Observation: In this passage we find an affirmation that God will provide for us during our life. It is a beautiful picture of God as protector and guide. This psalm evokes a mood of meditative security. It ends with a ringing triumph: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord Forever. This psalm is also very personal. There is no we or us or they, but only my and me and I. It is an overflow of David s personal experience with God. One of the reasons it has such an attraction for us is that we all hunger for such an authentic experience with God, and a personal witness to that experience brings us a step closer ourselves. It is a Psalm that comforts but at the same time empowers. God uses it to empower or strengthen His people. Application: Through this passage I found several ways God can empower and strengthen me. First, He is my provider I have all that I need (v.1). God empowers me by providing. He gives me peace I have rest from a weary journey (v.2). God empowers me by giving me peace. He is my guide I have guidance in times of confusion (V.3). God empowers me by bringing me along the right path. He is present I fear no danger (v.4). God empowers me by being present when I m afraid. He is my protector I have safety from my enemies (v.5). God empowers me by protecting me from my enemies. He is preparing a home for me I will dwell in God s house (v.6). His goodness will follow me and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Prayer: Lord, thanks for guiding and protecting me through life s transitions. I also thank you for comforting me through the hard times. Please, help me to hear and recognize your voice as you continue to lead me to rest in you. Be my shepherd, my guide, my protector, and provider. How Do I SOAP? Scripture - Read the passage of Scripture for the day and allow God to speak to you. Look for a verse that spoke to you. Write it down. Observation - Write your observation as to what is happening in the text. What do you believe is the point of the passage? Application - Ask yourself how this Scripture applies to your life right now. Write down how it can apply to you today. Prayer - This can be as simple as asking God to help you use this Scripture, or even a prayer for a greater insight on what He may be revealing to you. Remember, prayer is a two-way conversation, so be sure to listen to what God has to say! Now, write it out. S.O.A.P. Scripture Observation Application Prayer Grab your Bible, a pen, and a notebook. Get ready to hear from God through His Word! This Week s SOAP Our Response M Psalm 138:1-2 T Psalm 89:15-16 W Psalm 138:3 TH Psalm 139:4 F Psalm 138:4-5 S Psalm 138:6-8 Main Passage for June 25 Psalm 138:1-8 HCSB Memory Verse: Psalm 138:1 I will give you thanks with all my heart; I will sing your praise before the heavenly beings.

The Shepherd Scripture 1 The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I lack. 2 He lets me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside quiet waters. 3 He renews my life; He leads me along the right paths for His name s sake. 4 Even when I go through the darkest valley, I fear no danger, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff they comfort me. 5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. 6 Only goodness and faithful love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord as long as I live. Psalm 23:1-6 HCSB Main Point God can be trusted since He is always good. *Notes adapted from Explore the Bible, LifeWay Christian Resources.
