Ballina Centre of Mission November 2017 Emma Rodrigues Hi everyone As Church Army states in its vision We are catalysts, strengthening lives and communities, we do not shy from the gospel because we believe it changes lives The past 18 months we have connected well to the local community and the 4 churches of Ballina Churches together. The Bus- I am delighted to say, we have received a donation to cover the insurance costs of the bus for a year. We will be up and running finally, In January 2018. The aim is to have the bus ready for the week of Christian unity which runs from 18 th -25 th January 2018 and launch it during this week. We have about 15 volunteers from across the churches and community who are involved and want to be involved. We recently did the QPR suicide prevention course which is new to Ireland. It really helped us in how we should listen and help people contemplating suicide. I hope to meet more with the volunteer team as we work together in the community. This is the renovated interior of the bus which will become a mobile drop in for Ballina. Thanks to Donncha (Ballina Methodist church) Futsal: We are grateful for Fabiano who has come from Brazil to help us with Futsal. He is a professional Futsal player and came to faith in Brazil through this sport. We are also thankful for Dylan, who travels from Sligo every week to help.
Futsal continues on Tuesday evenings from 4-7pm. Many families from Ballina and some from the traveller communities attend on a regular basis. A local school in Ballina, have asked us to start Futsal in their local hall. This will start on Thursday evenings from 4-7pm. We are meeting over 90 children every week and their parents. It has broken down barriers in the community between the churches. Mill-view estate and Avondale Estate: I have a good relationship with the housing association who takes care of some of the estates in Ballina. I have been invited to run craft days and sports events for the children through the year. This has helped me to develop good relationships with the families. I will run two Christmas craft days coming up to Christmas. Messy Church: We ran one recently in the Presbyterian Church hall and about 50 people attended. It was our second Messy Church this year. Light party. We held a light party in the Presbyterian Church hall in Ballina on the 31 th of October as an alternative to Halloween. We had 30 people attend. It was nice to see families from other areas and churches in Co Mayo, such as Westport and Castlebar. MABS- I have done some training with the local money and budgeting service. I am one of their board members in Ballina. It has been good to connect more with the local agencies in Ballina They are all very supportive of our bus. I am looking forward to working more closely with the agencies when the bus is launched. Prayer: Prayer walking is still a priority. A few of us from the churches prayer walk every week around the town and the housing estates. Bible Study- The Bible study in our house continues to flourish. We have a mixed group including non-church attendees. It is great to see people grow in their faith. Church Army- I have started my Church Army Training I have been over to Sheffield twice since September.
Prayers Please pray for For time to balance family, work and study For the Futsal which is really popular with the children/youth in the area and attracting many numbers God s wisdom as I deal with volunteers for Ballina Churches together.
