AUGUSTE NONCO PELAFIGUE FOUNDATION 1519 Coteau Rodaire Highway P.O. Box 696 (337) 523-5832 Arnaudville LA 70512 Minutes of the Board of Directors Meeting Tuesday, April 12, 2016 Present: Absent: Allen LeBlanc, Iris LeBlanc, Mary Belleau, Sis LaPorte, Suzanne Stelly, Charles Hardy, Kathy Hardy, Charles Taylor, Betty Roy, Rod Roy, Father Keenan Brown Jerry Richard Location: Allen LeBlanc s Home, Old School House Road, Arnaudville, LA CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order promptly at 6:00 p.m. by President Allen LeBlanc. Suzanne Stelly read the Opening Prayer followed by Sis LaPorte reading the Mission Statement. Allen LeBlanc thanked everyone for attending and stressed that the Mission Statement and the website points to the necessity for everyone to work toward the mission of the Foundation. Betty Roy stated that we read the Mission Statement at every board meeting for a reason. We exist for Religious, Educational and Charitable Purposes. Allen stated that one, two or three people, one board, cannot do all of the work. We must strengthen our base. Betty stated that the structure of the organization is great. We just need to implement all of our programs. For example, we should award a Seminarian scholarship as part of the Educational purpose. This will create much needed publicity for the Nonco Foundation. We even have the documentation. The forms are prepared. Rod Roy stated that the KC Annual Seminarian Banquet is in July. He will ask the Knights what we can do and we can decide what amount will be awarded and how and when. Allen said that another thing we have going is the Apostleship of Prayer. We talked about starting another group at St. Agnes in Breaux Bridge. We need to spread it out. We need others to participate. Allen and Iris are willing to help. Brod and Charles Taylor are also willing to help. This is something Nonco did all of his life. His mission continues. We need help. Charles Taylor said he will touch base with Dr. Marelle Young and her husband, Gary Scholerman. Father Keenan Brown joined the meeting at this point. Allen asked Father about the seminarian scholarship idea. Father feels that we would have to discuss this with the Bishop and also with the Office of Vocations. He reported that there are about 50 seminarians from

the Diocese of Lafayette at this time. Father feels that getting the seminarians to submit an essay regarding the Sacred Heart of Jesus Devotion and explaining to the seminarians how Nonco s mission in life was devotion to the Sacred Heart would be a marvelous idea. MINUTES and FINANCIAL REPORT: Vee Pelafigue had previously submitted the minutes. She moved for acceptance. Second by Sis LaPorte. Betty Roy had previously submitted the financial report to the board members. The financial report indicated a reconciled account balance of $23,948.86 at March 31, 2016. On motion by Betty Roy and second by Suzanne Stelly, The Financial Report was approved and made part of the record. Betty Roy moved that the Nonco Foundation make an annual $100 donation to the Apostleship of Prayer and an annual donation of $50 to Radio Maria. Charles Hardy second. MEMBERSHIP REPORT: The 2016 members are 69 charter members and 7 founding members. Suzanne moved for the acceptance of her report and Charles Taylor second. Allen asked for suggestions as to how we could collect dues. The consensus was that board members who knew a member would call and ask for payment of dues. Suzanne Stelly stated that she had called four of the member. She wrote them a note and asked for payment. Mary Agnes asked if we would get a better response if we sent a letter with a return envelope. All a member would have to do is mail a check back to us. Allen told the board that he had spoken in his church, St. Leo s in Leonville. He is leaving prayer cards in different places: Town Hall, Guaranty Glass, Bodemuller s. His pastor gave him permission to speak after Mass and 12 people remained to hear about Nonco. He continues to distribute prayer cards. Allen feels it is time to branch out to Port Barre, Opelousas and other neighboring communities. BISHOP OF DIOCESE: Allen also asked Father Brown when would be a good time to approach the new Bishop regarding opening a cause for Nonco s beatification. Father Brown stated that was a question for the Vicar General, Monsignor Mallet. Allen stated that it is Father Ken Domingue s opinion that the new bishop will not look into opening the Nonco Cause until possibly new year. REVIEW OF TIMELINE: The timeline was reviewed and it was decided that the regular meeting would be held on the second Monday instead of the first. The Annual Meeting will be held on Thursday, December 1, 2016, 6:00 p.m. The next Board Meeting will be on Tuesday, August 9, 2016. Betty Roy stated that the timeline is important and someone should be in charge. For example, State Annual Report must be completed and the IRS reports must be filed. It is important. Someone has to be in charge. Iris LeBlanc volunteered to review the timeline and to learn to maintain the Timeline. FRENCH MASS: Allen asked Father about the date for the French Mass which will be in June. Father stated that no date has been set but he will look at his calendar. The Feast of the

Sacred Heart is on June 3, 2016. Sunday, June 5, 2016 is the tentative date for the French Mass, Feast of the Sacred Heart and the Anniversary of Nonco s Death. Father Brown will be the Celebrant for the French Mass. Sis LaPorte will follow up with Father Brown regarding a final date. At the next French Mass, Mary Belleau asked that we take a picture of all of the Pelafigue family. BEATIFICATION AND CANONIZATION: Charles Hardy reported that he had visited with Father Gary Schexnayder who has agreed to serve as our Canonical Advisor. Nonco was Father Gary s teacher and Father Gary is an Arnaudville native. As a representative of a group of priests of the Diocese of Lafayette, Father Gary will be meeting at regular intervals with Monsignor Mallet. He will mention to the Vicar General that he will serve as our Canonical Advisor and to include him on the mailing list when communications go out to the Father Verbis LaFleur and the Charleen Richard groups. This was one of the suggestions from Monsignor Luis Escalante. Monsignor Escalante, who serves as a consultant for the Nonco Foundation, would like to have a Skype conversation with members of the Board regarding what the next step will be and how long we will have to wait before we can introduce the information about Nonco to our new Bishop. Monsignor Escalante continues to send us information we need to advance the work that we are doing. This Skype conversation will allow all members of the Board to learn more about Monsignor Escalante and his suggestions for the Nonco Foundation. SAFE DEPOSIT BOX: Allen reported that he visited with his banker for the cost of the safe deposit box. The prices are the same as Farmers Merchants Bank. The boxes are not water proof and they are not fire proof. Allen went to Ivan s Locksmith. He had a book of all the possibilities. There is nothing small and the price is really out of range. Charles Hardy has three original copies of the 7 interviews which have been completed. Charles will ask Attorney Taylor Bassett for the actual audio, which is also required. It would need to be copied to a CD and added to the safe deposit box. Mary has documents and the draft biography. These are the documents that are required. These will fit in a regular safe deposit box at our bank. Charles Taylor will go to the bank to get prices on the different sizes. Any original historical documents will also be housed in the safe deposit box at our bank. Mary Belleau stated that Monsignor Escalante informed her that original historical documents can be kept in the owner s possession but that we must keep 3 copies properly documented as to the original. All of this will be kept in the safe deposit box. Betty Roy moved that we get a large safe deposit box at our bank to store all of the required documentation. Sis Laporte second the motion. EVANGELINE DOWNS CHRISTMAS TREE: Allen thanked Vee for the great job of getting the Christmas Tree project completed. Evangeline Downs awarded the Nonco Foundation $250 for our participation.

FINANCE AND BUDGET: Charles Taylor reminded the board that we had discussed fundraising. He presented the 200 Club Raffle; but, the board feels there are already too many raffles. Food is another idea but requires a lot of work. A benefit barbeque, or crawfish boil is a good fundraiser. It was decided that the Fundraising Committee would meet and then present their decisions to the board at the next meeting. Allen stated that Vee brought up a plant sale as a fundraiser. Allen thanked her. This is something we can talk about later. ANNUAL MEETING REVIEW: Allen stated that he had mixed emotions about the annual meeting. There was not enough information about Nonco. We need to talk about favors. Allen feels that is what people want to hear. A favor, once verified becomes a miracle and is necessary to move Nonco from a Cause to Blessed and another miracle to move from Blessed to Canonization. Mary Belleau explained that there is a section on the website listing favors received. Allen feels that this is the information that should be presented at the Annual Meeting. Charles Hardy stated that at the 2015 Annual Meeting, he asked for statements about Nonco. Even if it is a one-sentence statement, we need it and it is important. He saw heads nodding in agreement but he has not received any statements. Allen feels that information on how one becomes a saint should be presented. Mary Belleau asked Betty Roy to present at the Annual Meeting the statements from the website which have been received from individuals. The Annual Meeting will be on December 1, 2016. Betty Roy volunteered to chair the Annual Committee Meeting. Iris LeBlanc, Suzanne Stelly and Sis LaPorte volunteered to serve on the committee. MEMBERSHIP DEVELOPMENT: Suzanne Stelly is the Chairperson. LITERATURE DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE: Regarding the biography, Mary Belleau reported that all members of the board have received a copy of the First Draft of the Nonco Biography. Information is still being gathered and will be added to the biography. For example, Mary stated that her contacts from France had submitted information about Pelafigues in this country prior to Nonco s family being here. This is new information that came from her contact in France and will be added to the biography. Mary stated that Nonco served under six Popes. MEMORIAL PRAYER GARDEN: Suzanne Stelly reported that Willie Wyble had called her to say that he could not attend the meeting. He is still recovering for open heart surgery but is feeling well. WEBSITE COMMITTEE: Betty Roy stated that the website is huge. It is her suggestion that we use Responsive Hosting which will allow for desktop, tablet or cell usage. Charles Taylor moved that we switch web hosting to DudaOne. Mary Belleau second.

NONCO HEALING OF THE SICK PRAYER LIST: Betty Roy asked the board to ask friends and relatives to pray for those on the prayer list. NEW BUSINESS: Vee Pelafigue stated that in looking at Nonco s mausoleum crypt, she realized that we could improve the site. The image of Nonco is faded. She researched this and recommends that we get a porcelain image. The Board agreed that this is a wonderful idea and Vee s research will continue. Vee also presented copies of Nonco Family research. The Death Certificate of Nonco s father has not been located. Having no further business, Betty Roy read the Vision Statement followed by Iris LeBlanc reading the Closing Prayer. The next scheduled meeting will be on Tuesday, August 9, 2016 and will be at the Foundation Office at 1519 Coteau Rodaire Road, Arnaudville. Respectfully Submitted: Betty Roy, Secretary
