Amanda Joria s First Day Tuesday, September 4, 2018

Dear Park Ridge Presbyterian Church, We are extremely pleased to introduce the Rev. Amanda Huels Joria to you! Rev. Amanda Joria was elected to the position of Associate Pastor on Sunday, July 22, 2018. The vote was unanimous! Amanda s start date is Tuesday, September 4, 2018. Amanda graduated from Princeton Theological Seminary in May of 2015. She has been serving as an associate pastor at the Presbyterian Church of Westfield since the summer of 2015. Amanda and her husband, Terry, were married in March of 2017. Terry is a strength and conditioning coach. Terry has been on the staff of the Princeton University Athletics Department for the past few years. Terry will be serving as a volunteer coach for Northwestern University Football for this upcoming football season. Both Amanda and Terry are from the Chicagoland area. Amanda grew up in Winnetka, IL, and attended New Trier High School. Terry grew up in the Chicago neighborhood of Beverly and attended Marian Catholic High School (Chicago Heights, IL). Amanda and Terry met while both were attending Illinois Wesleyan University (Bloomington, IL). Amanda grew up as a very active member of Winnetka Congregational Church (Winnetka, IL). It was in the midst of this congregation that Amanda first felt a confirmation of a call to pursue a career in pastoral ministry. Following a very clear sense of call, Amanda would become an integral part of the youth ministry leadership of Second Presbyterian Church (Bloomington, IL) during her college years. It was while participating in the ministry of Second Presbyterian Church that Amanda joined the Presbyterian Church (USA). After becoming a member of Second Presbyterian Church, Amanda then went through the ordination process with the support of Second Presbyterian Church. Please join with us in welcoming Amanda and Terry to Park Ridge Presbyterian Church at this time. Please also join with us in thanking the Associate Pastor Nominating Committee (APNC) for all of their wonderful work and commitment to their ministry of discernment. Sincerely, Mrs. Valerie Vanella C0-chair APNC Mr. Paul Danao Co-chair APNC

STATEMENT OF FAITH- Rev. Amanda H. Joria The greatest thing we can ever do is experience God s love and share that love with others. God s attitude towards the world is one of love, expressed in the abundant grace offered in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. God showed solidarity with the weak and oppressed through Jesus, and in Christ s resurrection offers all people the hope of new life in Christ. I have felt God s love through the relationship I have with Jesus that has helped me see myself as worthy of God s love and forgiveness. It is this love that I am called by God to share with others in all my relationships. All people were created in the image of God. God created humanity to be in perfect relationship with each other, with the rest of creation and with their Creator. All creation witnesses to the magnitude and majesty of God. Sin has broken this relationship between Creator and created. Sin keeps us from being in relationship with God and living according to God s will. In this fallen world we have lost the ability to recognize the image of God within ourselves, our neighbors and our enemies. Out of God s eternal love for the world God sent Jesus into the world to redeem all people and all of creation. Every day I rely on God s grace and forgiveness as I still sin in ways that keep me from God. I strive to live each day for God, trying to witness to God s redeeming love and desire for our world to look more and more like the Kingdom of God. I constantly rely on the power of the Holy Spirit to guide, encourage and equip me to live for the Lord. The Holy Spirit gathers the Church together and builds up the body of Christ to be witnesses of Christ s reconciliation on the cross. Through worship, the Holy Spirit prepares God s people to be sent out into the world to be witnesses of Christ s love to all people in all places. The Church is called to participate in the work of reconciliation in this world by showing solidarity with the poor, the oppressed, and the outcast as Jesus modeled in his earthly life. Scripture attests to God s self-revelation in Christ. Scripture tells the story of God s eternal love and promise for this world. The church finds its identity and mission in Christ and relies on scripture for guidance and nourishment along the journey of becoming the people God calls us to be. The church gathers around the Word in worship. Through the proclamation of the Word and the celebration of the sacraments, the church responds to God s grace with praise and adoration. In baptism, we respond to God s grace and forgiveness offered to all people. I believe in the profound experience of encountering God s presence at the Lord s Table where we are reminded of Christ s sacrifice on the cross where we find our forgiveness and hope.
