FRIDAY SERMON 1 Syaaban 1435H / 30 May 2014 BLIND IN THE HEREAFTER USTAZ MOHD YUSOFF BIN MOHD RAWI IMAM MASJID SULTAN ISMAIL ISLAMIC CENTRE UTM JOHOR BAHRU
Dear brothers, I would like remind you and myself, let us have taqwa to Allah, strengthen our worship to Him by doing all His commands and leaving all evil.
May we be successful on this blessed day in this world and the hereafter. Today's sermon title is: BLIND IN THE HEREAFTER.
Most people are created by Allah can see perfectly, not blind, able to see the creations of Allah, able to eat and drink, travel and others.
But in the hereafter there are people who are raised by Allah in a state of blindness. The big question arises here is why are they raised in such a situation?
The answer is because they turn away from the teachings of Allah, do not abide the rules of Allah, and commit evil and major sins and being injustice to others.
The eyes are not used to see the truth but it is use to see falsehood. The consequences is that his life in this world will be depressed with suffering and misfortune.
Even in the afterlife, they became blind as a reward disobedience in this world. Allah says in Surah Taha verse 124 125;
And whoever turns away from My remembrance indeed, he will have a depressed life, and We will gather him on the Day of Resurrection blind. He will say, "My Lord, why have you raised me blind while I was [once] seeing?"
Imagine how the tortures of the people of Hell from the severe physical punishment, coupled with a blinded eye, not able to see at the surrounding area.
This is a form of spiritual torture from Allah to the disbelievers. Allah says in Surah Al Hud verses 106 107:
As for those who were [destined to be] wretched, they will be in the Fire. For them therein is [violent] exhaling and inhaling. [They will be] abiding therein as long as the heavens and the earth endure, except what your Lord should will. Indeed, your Lord is an effecter of what He intends.
Dear brothers, Remember, as Muslims, we must be wise in our course of life, following the right direction according to the instructions outlined in the al Quran and al Hadith.
Not following temptation or selfinterest, and much worse, bowing and following the enemies of Islam.
Remember, in our journey to the hereafter, we must search and gather as many good deeds as possible while living in this world.
Remember, as the saying of Sayyidina 'Ali: "A wise man should not focus except in three things: Striving for his basic needs, doing good deeds for the hereafter and enjoying things that are not haram."
The pulpit would like to emphasize that our actions in this world determine our position in the sight of Allah Almighty in the hereafter, and vice versa.
If we truly devout ourselves to Allah in this world, then surely Allah in the Hereafter will accompany us.
A companion of the Prophet named Samurah bin Jundab once said: Anyone who wants to know his position in the sight of Allah, let him check the position of Allah in his sight.
Those who honor Allah's command, and hastened to do, stay away from the prohibitions of Allah, decorating themselves with the ethics of Islam, then his position to Allah will be honored.
A narration tells that one day three men walk in front of the mosque when the Prophet was preaching.
One of the men walk passed the mosque, not interested in hearing what is conveyed by the Prophet Muhammad, while two of them decided to stop by, listening to the Prophet, one sat in between the circle and the other chose to sit behind.
When Allah's Prophet finished his preaching, he said, "Shall I tell you about these three persons? One of them be took himself to Allah, so Allah took him into His grace and mercy and accommodated him,
the second felt shy from Allah, so Allah sheltered Him in His mercy (and did not punish him), while the third turned his face from Allah and went away, so Allah turned His face from him likewise. (Narrated by Bukhari and Muslim)
Remember that all our deeds in this world will be presented in the next, even an atom weight of deed. At that point we will see all of this in the Book of Deeds.
Those who are guilty will feel intimidated by such circumstances. Let us not be like some people, in order to gain worldly benefits, they are willing to do things that invite the wrath of Allah.
Allah says in Surah Al Kahf, verse 49:
And the record [of deeds] will be placed [open], and you will see the criminals fearful of that within it, and they will say, "Oh, woe to us! What is this book that leaves nothing small or great except that it has enumerated it?" And they will find what they did present [before them]. And your Lord does injustice to no one.
Dear brothers, In our everyday social life, certainly there are mistakes we made whether intentionally or not.
Mistakes can become sins, especially if it violates the rights related to the body, dignity and property of others.
Among the body parts that do most offences are the tongue and the eyes. Both the eyes and the tongue are the reason that a person receive punishment in the hereafter.
Hujatul Islam Imam al Ghazali once said: Through the tongue lies are created, suspicion, hostility, slander, insults, curses, feuding, slander, curse and evil talks.
Trust me, even though how pious a person is, lots of prayer, fasting, but when he is not able to safeguard the tongue and character of slander, lies, jealousy and revenge, he will be among the losers.
Therefore, the pulpit would like to remind, let us live in a prosperous and peaceful life, use the tongue correctly, courteous and polite in our language.
The attitude of not taking care of the tongue will not only angered those who hear, but will have a bad implications to human relations.
Say the truth with courage, although it is a bitter pill to swallow, even more if we as leaders because they reflect the stance and attitude as a believer.
Beware of every speech as the dangers of the tongue has effect not only on individual but on a country and its people.
Dear in brothers Concluding the sermon this week let us together reflect ourselves, whether we are have done enough deeds to meet Allah in the hereafter, whether our deeds in this world is guaranteed reward in the hereafter.
Remember all our deeds will be counted whether it is good or evil and everything is determined by the scales of justice.
Verily every day, o dear Muslims, our movements are constantly monitored by two angels, Raqib and Atid.
Avoid falling into sins such as accusations, evoking hatred, prejudice and telling lies.
Every speech will be held responsible in the afterlife. Words that please Allah will be recorded, and words that bring the wrath of Allah will also be written on His wrath until doomsday.
Let us not be among those who can see in this world but blind in the hereafter.
Let us reflect on the words of Allah SWT says in Surah al Zalzalah verses 7 and 8:
So whoever does an atom's weight of good will see it, and whoever does an atom's weight of evil will see it.
