ORDER OF WORSHIP THIRD SUNDAY OF EASTER *HYMN Come, Ye Faithful, Raise the Strain ST. KEVIN April 30, 2017 10:00 a.m. The beginning of the opening voluntary is a call to silent, personal meditation. Please silence all electronic device as we prepare our hearts and minds to worship God. OPENING VOLUNTARY Toccata in F Dieterich Buxtehude (1637-1707) INTROIT The Lord is risen indeed; Come let us adore him; Alleluia. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: As it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen. Iain Quinn (b. 1973) CALL TO WORSHIP Now if Christ is proclaimed as raised from the dead, how can some of you say there is no resurrection of the dead? If for this life only we have hoped in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied. But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have died. Christ is risen! All: Christ is risen indeed! Alleluia!

PRAYER OF CONFESSION Almighty God, who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus Christ; we acknowledge that we are unworthy of your redeeming grace. We have not believed your promises, nor trusted in our living Lord. Through worldliness of spirit, our eyes have been closed to his presence among us. Through disappointment of mind, our hearts have not burned within us at the sound of his Word. We have forgotten the glad tidings of his victory over death, and not known the things that make for our peace. Forgive us, we pray, and restore unto us the joy of your salvation, through him who is our Mediator and Advocate, even Jesus Christ our Lord. PROMISE OF THE GOSPEL *GLORIA PATRI Juneau SILENT CONFESSION KYRIE ELEISON Thomas Juneau (b. 1977) *THE PEACE The peace of Christ be with you. And also with you. WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS REFLECTIONS ON KEEPING THE FAITH PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION Almighty God, author and interpreter of our lives, guide us by your word and Spirit, that in your light we may see light, in your truth discover freedom, and in your will find peace, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

FIRST LESSON Luke 24:13-35 (p. 90) HYMN (seated) During the organ introduction, children through fifth grade may process to the Chapel to meet for the Gathering. PSALTER Psalm 116:1-4, 16-17 William Crotch (1775-1847) I love the Lord, because he has heard the voice of my supplication, because he has inclined his ear to me whenever I called upon him. Go with us, Lord, and guide the way, Through this and every coming day, That in your Spirit strong and true, Our lives may be our gift to you. The cords of death entangled me; the grip of the grave took hold of me; I came to grief and sorrow. Then I called upon the Name of the Lord: O Lord, I pray SERMON Abide with Us Ms. Jarvis Luke 24:28b-29 (KJV) Gracious is the Lord and righteous; our God is full of compassion. I will fulfill my vows to the Lord in the presence of all his people. s house, in the midst of you, O Jerusalem. Hallelujah! SECOND LESSON Luke 24:36-48 (p. 90) *HYMN 543 Abide with Me EVENTIDE PRAYERS The Lord be with you, And with your spirit. Let us pray. O Lord show thy mercy upon us, And grant us thy salvation. O God, make clean our hearts within us, And take not thy Holy Spirit from us. Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen. OFFERING

OFFERTORY ANTHEM Stay with us, Lord Jesus, stay with us. Stay with us, it soon is evening. Stay with us, Lord Jesus, stay with us, it soon is evening, and night is falling. Jesus Ch s true light! Let your light pierce the darkness, and fill your church with its glory. Stay with us, Lord Jesus, stay with us. Stay with us, it soon is evening. Stay with us, Lord Jesus, stay with us, it soon is evening, and night is falling. Egil Hovland (1924-2013) *HYMN 111 Good Christians All, Rejoice and Sing! CLOSING VOLUNTARY Gelobt sei Gott Healey Willan (1880-1968) *Congregation standing *DOXOLOGY Praise God from whom all blessings flow, Praise God, all creatures here below, Alleluia! Alleluia! Praise God above, ye heavenly host, Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! LASST UNS ERFREUEN *AFFIRMATION OF FAITH I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church, the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.
