LUTHERAN CHURCH (The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod) 1033 E 1100 N, Decatur, IN 46733 E-mail: spl1845@centurylink.net Website: www.stpeterdecatur.org The Rev. Martin K. Moehring, Pastor (cell phone: 223-0310) Church & Pastor s Study: 724-7533 Parsonage: 724-7552 (Pastor s e-mail: mjmoehring@centurylink.net) Seminarian: James Beadle Jen Fuelling, Church Secretary Cell Phone: 815-216-8516 E-mail: splchurchsec@gmail.com The mission of St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church is to: Teach the saving Gospel of Jesus Christ to all; Reach the lost with the same Word by the witness of our words and actions; Care for all in need as we live in Christ s love through the same Word.

THE DIVINE SERVICE OF HOLY COMMUNION THE DAY OF PENTECOST, June 4th, 2017, 9:00 am Jesus promised that it was to our advantage that He go away and send the Holy Spirit for His Church (John 16:7). That advantage became immediately evident on PENTECOST as the Holy Spirit empowered the preaching of repentance and forgiveness, and employed the use of Holy Baptism and THE LORD'S SUPPER to build the church of Christ (Acts 2). The Holy Spirit is still acting for our advantage, as Christ comes to us with His true Body and true Blood in the Sacrament of Holy Communion today. Because doctrinal oneness is central to the common reception of THE LORD'S SUPPER, we practice "Close" Communion. Penitent, believing members of sister Missouri Synod congregations are welcome to commune at this altar. All other guests desiring to commune are asked to speak with the pastor before the service. Moses from his youth, said, My lord And as soon as the Spirit rested on Moses, stop them. 29 But Moses said to them, they prophesied. LOOKING AHEAD TO NEXT SUNDAY'S (JUNE 11th) READINGS Genesis 1:1-2:4 Acts 2:14. 22-36 Matthew 28:16-20 The Holy Triune God Recreates Us in the Image and Likeness of Christ Jesus The Holy Triune God "created the heavens and the earth," and "behold, it was very good" (Gen. 1:1, 31). However, after Adam and Eve fell into sin and plunged God's good creation into decay and death, the Son of God would be "delivered up according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God" to be "crucified and killed by the hands of lawless men" (Acts 2:23). As Jesus "received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit" (Acts 2:33), He also raises up all the baptized and pours out the Spirit upon them through the preaching of His Gospel. He sends out His apostles to "make disciples of all nations" by "baptizing them in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit," and "teaching them to observe all that [He has] commanded" (Matt. 28:19-20). Through such baptizing and teaching---gospel and Sacraments---the Holy Triune God recreates us in the image and likeness of His Incarnate Son, Jesus, the Christ, and behold, it is "very good" (Gen. 1:31).
