JAMBO Rafikis! Please I need your help - there are many talks of not supporting the Annual Catholic Appeal (ACA). There are some things I would like you to know - No funds from the Annual Catholic Appeal are being used to support the Ref. 74 campaign. The Annual Catholic Appeal sends $50,000 a year to the National Religious Retirement Office to support our religious sisters in retirement. Congregations represented by LCWR with motherhouses in this archdiocese receive benfits from this ACA-supported fund The Annual Catholic Appeal funds over 60 ministries - the persons helped by these ministries are the ones who will suffer if you chose not to give And lastly - money that we do not raise through St John's collection for ACA has to be paid by the Parish. I am asking your help to support the persons who benefit from these 60+ ministries - they already suffer enough - let's not make it worse for them by choosing not to participate. Baraka ya Yesu! (Blessings of Jesus!) Padre Crispin

Liturgy This Week s Readings ~ June 3, 2012 The Most Holy Trinity First Reading: Deuteronomy 4:32-34 Second Reading: Romans 8:14-17 Gospel: Matthew 28: 16-20 Matthew tells us that the apostles now recognize Jesus in his risen life and they worship him. Jesus drew to them as he always draws near humankind. Having formed them as his disciples, he now sends them forth in turn to make disciples of all nations. They are to baptize people in such a way that they will be seen as sons and daughters of God. The trinity Father, Son and Holy Spirit describes an experience of the one, true God who creates, liberates and makes holy. Into this God, a community of persons, we are plunged by our Baptism. How are you answering Jesus call to be a disciple? Christ sends us to all people. Where do you find yourself too narrow in your approach to people, too limited by your upbringing? Describe a time when you entertained doubts about God. Body and Blood of Christ ~ June 10, 2012 First Reading: Exodus 24:3-8 Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 116 Second Reading: Hebrews 9:11-15 Gospel: Mark 14:12-16, 22-26 As in our own liturgy of the Word, today/s first reading pictures Moses proclaiming God s word and the people affirming their acceptance of that word. Then as if foreshadowing the Eucharist, Moses sprinkles the assembly with sacrificial blood. In the second reading from the Letter to the Hebrews, the sacrificial blood does correspond to our Eucharist, for Jesus offers his own blood for our redemption. It is this sacrifice that Jesus instituted sacramentally at the Last Supper and offered on the altar of the cross, the sacrifice and supper we partake of at every Eucharist. The Funeral Mass for Helen Jackson will be June 8, 2012 at 10am, reception following. Helen requested that in lieu of flowers to contribute to the Kenya Well Project. If you would like to help the Funeral committee, please call Kathy Zamberlin, (206) 930-7362 or the parish office. Kathy s son is graduating that day and she would appreciate all the help she can get! LECTOR TRAINING Anyone interested in becoming a lector at St. John s should plan to attend Exodusour lector training course next Friday, June 1, from 4:00 to 5:30 in the sanctuary. Lectors must be confirmed Catholics and members of St. John s. Among other things, the course covers techniques that work well in our particular sanctuary. To register, please contact Jim Russell at jrussellsea@comcast.net or (206) 782-6666. Catholic Cemeteries We remember and give thanks at our regular Eucharistic celebrations for all of those who have died. All are invited. Unless otherwise noted all Masses are on Saturday mornings at 10:30 a.m. For more information please call: 253-838-2240 Holyrood ~ 205 NE 205th St. Shoreline, WA 98155 Calvary ~ 5041-35th Ave. NE Seattle, WA 98105 Do you have a family member or neighbor in or from our parish who would like to stay in touch with the St John Community? We would like to expand our Ministry to the homebound. In addition to taking Communion to these people we would like to reach out with a phone call or greeting card to say hello and that we are thinking about them. We will also need volunteers. Please contact Loretta Fletcher at 784-3529 or Marion Johnson at 782-5084 if you would be interested, or if you know of someone who might enjoy this type of outreach. Gluten Free hosts are available. If you need a gluten free host please come back to the Sacristy before Mass and let the Sacristan know. If you have borrowed a pyx to take communion to a loved one, please remember to bring it back when it is not needed anymore. Also, if you have served as Eucharistic Minister or Lector and forgotten to take your cross off, please bring it back. We are running low. Thanks!

He was a farmer on the land of a certain wealthy nobleman of Madrid. He never missed daily Mass. The neighbors accused him, to his employer, of neglecting his work in order to hear Mass, but Isidore replied, I know, sir, that I am your servant, but I have another Master as well, to whom I owe service and obedience. The employer went to the farm one morning very early. When he found out that Isidore did not begin his work until a later hour, he went toward him to scold him. But he was surprised to find two strangers, each with a team of white oxen, plowing, one on each side of Isidore. When he approached them, they disappeared. He said to Isidore, Tell me, who are these two men who were plowing with you just now? Isidore said, I have not seen any person. I ask no help from anyone but God each morning at Holy Mass. The nobleman understood that the two men he had seen were angels sent by God to help his servant, in return for his hearing Mass faithfully.
