CORNERSTONE Volume 35, No. 11 November 2018 COMMUNICATOR Youth Pastor - Brach Pulver Lead Pastor - Eli Shackelford Music - Fred Helbling CORNERSTONE EVANGELICAL FREE CHURCH The Communicator was created in 1985 to provide a way for church and ministry leaders to keep the people of informed about the activities and ministries of the church. While we hope that you will be lifted and encouraged by the articles you find in the Newsletter, the primary purpose of this newsletter ministry is to keep you informed. Enough. Pastor Eli I often say, We have enough to do everything God has called us to do. Enough people. Enough resources. Enough everything. Reflect on this with me for a moment. What does it mean to have enough? Enough food to feed my family things that they like to eat. Enough money to heat our house in the winter and cool it in the summer. Enough kids to do all the chores that I UPCOMING EVENTS... can come up with. Enough for everything I need and almost even for everything I want. Enough friends that I can call someone when I m down. I can invite someone over when I want to celebrate. I can trust someone with my feelings, fears, and even my failures. Enough is a nice thing to have. Not everyone has enough. He will give you more than enough. You will have everything you need for yourselves. And you will have enough left over to give when there is a need. Not just enough, but more than enough. More than enough. Who is this more than enough promised to? It s in the text just before the promise. Those who give generously. Those who give generously. So I ve been confessing my belief that we have enough. Enough for everything that God has called us to do. Enough people. Enough resources. Enough. But Paul is saying that I ve been setting the bar too low. Enough isn t the promise, but more than enough. But it s only true if we are giving generously. That s what Paul is saying to his friends. True then. True now. We grow in generosity and God supplies more and more. More than enough. Would you join me in generosity? Let s dream bigger and grow deeper. Lets give more and expect more. Let s live in a way that says that we agree with Paul and believe the word for more. Blessings, Eli Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; For this is God s will for you in Christ Jesus. Luke 10:2 Prayer at Choose a leader or staff member and pray for them each day. Pray for unity, mission, love, and energy. Pray for our outreach to the community. Join the after-service prayer team. If you d like to do this, please talk with Eli or one of the elders. Join the monthly prayer meeting at 7pm, the first Tuesday of the month. Use the prayer calendar. It has names, ministries, topics. Women s Bible Study Women, suit up! The Women s Bible Study group meets on Mondays 6:30-8:30 pm, at the church. The study for the fall quarter is The Armor of God, by Priscilla Shirer. LIFE TOGETHER Thanksgiving Community Meal First tacos... (Nov 11) On November 18 after an outreach church service, we ll be sharing Thanksgiving Dinner with our neighbors and friends. This community dinner is always a great way to get to know our neighbors and other new friends and for them to get to know. What can you do to spread the word? On November 11th after church, we ll have a taco cart on the church lawn and a chance to give neighbors a taco and invite them to the meal on November 18th. Help us invite people! Then turkey! (Nov 18) How can you help with the dinner? Plan to bring something to share. We raised $ for the turkeys, but this dinner is a chance for you to share a side dish or dessert to make the dinner complete. See the signup sheet in the foyer. Prepare to serve. There are many ways you can help out to make the dinner successful. Talk with Heather Ledbetter. Come to dinner and invite a friend! Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs. Know that the Lord is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations. Psalm 100: 1-5 Can You Help on Wednesday nights? Please pray for the leaders and students of Kids Club and the youth outreach groups and consider helping out with Kids Club in November and December. Two of our long-time adult leaders from will be away for part or all of this period, and we need adult leaders who can fill in and help in this important ministry. If you can help, talk with Eli it s always a good time, and your presence will be appreciated! Remember the food pantry! See page 7 for general needs, and see the weekly update emails for a specific list. Distribution is October 13. More info from Elda Arana: 818-612-8129 or eldagd@gmail.com. If you re CPR certified, let Richard Hammond know. We d like to have an upated safety list for the leadership and the teachers in the church.
