Drawings should be done on white, 8 ½- by 11- inch paper in colored pencil, crayon, marker or paints. Please submit original artwork only; no black and white drawings. The artwork should focus on the religious nature of Christmas. If using the color yellow, please use a deep yellow or make sure it is surrounded by a dark color. Yellow is hard to reproduce. The contest, which has a 15 postmark deadline, is open to youths living in or attending school, home school or religious education in the Diocese of Davenport. Messenger staff members will judge the entries based on originality and the ability to convey what Christmas means to Catholics. Entries must include first and last name, age, grade, home address, school (public, private or home school with the school s location) and parish (name and city) on the back of the drawing. Please do not fold entries. Any information omitted could be grounds for disqualification. Winning entries will be featured in The Catholic Messenger s Christmas edition (Dec. 20). The drawings also will be featured on The Catholic Messenger Web site: www.catholicmessenger.net. All entries should be postmarked by 15 to The Catholic Messenger, 780 W. On December 16, students will come to class as usual then attend Mass together and then re-enact the Nativity. Cookies and refreshments will follow in the parish hall! Confirmation Class of 2020 students in this year s 8 th and 9 th grades: Wednesdays November 12, December5, and 12, at 7 p.m. in the hall. We study and reflect on the lectionary Scripture of the day and liturgical seasons of the church. Singing/Praying: People interested in singing for the joy of singing are invited to sing through some new and some familiar music the 4 th Wednesday of each month. Scott Thanksgiving Baskets for MCC Food Pantry: All three churches in town are contributing to these Thanksgiving Baskets again this year. We hope to give 60 baskets this year. St. Mary's Church is asked to provide 60 cans of pumpkin for these baskets. It can be any brand of pumpkin in a 15-15.5 oz can. This is used as part of a pumpkin dessert. Each veteran will be receiving a Quilt of Valor. The honorees are Keith Walshire, Harry Driscoll, and Robert Wethington. There will be a reception following Mass at Ditto s restaurant in Stanwood.
